when u do a basic power cord. for instence on the 3rd fret 6th string. a power cord is 3-5-5 (meaning in frets on the E-A-D strings) but instead just do 3-x-5 and use your index finger and mute the 5th string. idk if that helps, its kinda hard to explain in txt.
