  • Man I miss Sherlock Hemlock.

  • The Cat Is Performed By David Rudman

  • That was the same house scenery that they used in that Sesame Street News Flash where Kermit saw the chimney cleaner come down the chimney instead of Santa Claus. The house of Lord and LAdy Whozits, I mean.

  • Isn't this the same library as the one in Monsterpiece theater?

  • In some mystery stories, the line was always "the butler did it", but in this case the line was "The butler knew it".

  • Vincent Twice, Vincent Twice!

How did Ryland even happen to find this?

    hahahah i love him

  • Only Ryland would find this.

  • Ryland :D

How in the world did you find this?

Actually, it's better not to ask questions.

    Love :3

  • just kiiiiiding! i <3 SS

  • Ryland, if you see this, i want you to know that i was uber excited and then scared when i actually watched it.. Nightmares, cometh!

  • Ryland just happened to stumble upon this?

  • aww Ry *-*

  • Lol I love the pun on Woodhouse!

  • If Watson really noticed that the cat was under the mat, he should've just pulled the mat away just so that Sherlock Hemlock would've seen that the cat was under there as Watson pulled the mat away instead of barking trying to get Sherlock Hemlock's attention.

  • i used t love this, i used tell my cousin stories of this show at night and then make up random ones using Vincent Twice's voice. lmao oh my childhood.

  • I guess Guy Smiley's got an extended family or something! First Prince Charming and Don Music, but also Vincent Twice (as seen here) and Monty and that Fairy *insert object name here* Person, the captain from "Spaceship Surprise," etc.

(I know it's the same puppet pattern, but hey, anything's possible in the world of Muppets!)

  • These used to scare the crap out of me!

  • does anyone have the mysterious theater street scene? the one where maria meets vincent twice for the 1st time? cos i want to watch that episode..

  • I do and I'll be sure to upload it soon.

  • cool! do let me know,ok? thanks a million!! :D by the way may i know whether is the intro(for the mysterious theater street scene) the same as the one you are showing now?

  • That's great. I would love to see it too.

  • @mcht50202 I believe said video is here on YouTube. Case closed.

  • I bet the sound effects editors had loads of fun with the end of the story by using every crashing sound they had in their library!

  • Just like the title card and Vincent Twice are saying, calling this skit "Mysterious Theater.

  • It's a tombstone/gravestone which says "Mysterious Theater" on it. The intro is taking place in a cemetary.

  • Gotta love that harpsichord music at 0:53 - 1:41! It sends chills down my spine, but in a good way. A nice Halloween feel to it :)

  • actually they don't need to remove mysterious theater... all they need 2 do is to edit the video, especially the intro. Here are some suggestions: for the intro they should remove the scary painting and be like dis video intro. The music is fine.Frankly speaking, this is not the right way to create a mytery movie intro for kids.Cos it can caused them to be mentally scarred like me.

  • Yes I agree that Mysterious Theater would be okay to have on Sesame Street as long as that wolf howling, thunder and lightning crashing, and that painted woman were removed from the intro (If that painted woman wasn't there, I wouldn't of been afraid of the intro even if there was still the wolf howling and thunder and lightning). Probably the perfect intro for Mysterious Theater could've been a real theater with a close up of a curtain that opened where Vincent Twice started performing.

  • i totally agree with you. actually the skit is good,e main problem lies on the intro... yes, using the theater curtain would b more appropriate, since this is a theater play...by the way muppet wiki got e scary woman paintin...

  • Yes, I have seen the painting of the woman on the muppet wiki webpage. Also I just found out that the reason why they have the painted woman on the Mysterious Theater skits is because, it has to do with Edward Gorey's intro to Masterpiece Theater where in the intro it had a painted woman who was moving her head and arm, and she was drinking out of a wine glass and holding a hankercheif. But here on Sesame Street, the painted woman wasn't moving at all and she had a rose instead of a wine glass

  • strange.. how come my friends are not afraid of the paintings?

  • They should redo the whole intro, and make it look like the 1990s Mystery! intro. Maybe have an animated Muppet-like lady wailing on a roof, a croquet ball get hit by a cinderblock, and maybe have an animated Sherlock Hemlock appear at the end of the intro! Remember when "Arthur" did a parody like that?

And they could re-shoot the Vincent Twice intro and outro so it doesn't look as scary, and probably have Marty lip-synch the puppet to the old voice tracks to save time and money.

  • Ah, you saw it on Muppet Wiki? I actually uploaded the picture myself onto the website!

  • what?! which one? LOL!! haha...

  • by the way just to be curious... what's that thing the painted woman is holding in her another hand, other then the rose?

  • The painted woman is holding a handkerchief in her right hand while holding a rose in her left hand while putting the rose up to her nose to smell it.

  • You know, I think I made a mistake here, the painted woman is not holding a red rose in her left hand and smelling it (I guess it just looked like a rose the way how she was holding it up). It's actually a wine glass she is drinking out of (she's probably proposing a toast to a family member or friend who passed away) while holding a hankerchief in her right hand. I can now tell that it was a wine glass she's drinking from because, if you take a closer look, you can see that it's a wine glass.

  • oh.. i also didn't know that it's a wine glass... cos i normally don't take notice of this painting. very creepy.. maybe the rose is just a perception.

  • I also never took a close look at the painted woman because I found her very scary. (As soon as Mysterious Theater came on, I would change the channel fast). Someone else told me that it was a wine glass she was holding and drinking from where I mentioned it was a rose and the person said that it was a wine glass and that person was right because, as I take a closer look at it, it does look like a wine glass. (For me, it was the way she was holding the wine glass to her mouth which was scary)

  • oh ya.. you are right! :D the lady in black dress is holding a wine glass... i finally got the courage to see it,and i did not freeze.. :D still it did give me abit of chills and shock... by the way this picture is a sketch with colours..

  • It also still gets me a little nervous seeing this lady. Whenever Mysterious Theater came on after a skit ended, I would quickly change the channel once I would see this lady (ever since I saw this lady, I have always been ready holding the remote in my hand getting ready in case Mysterious Theater came on as soon as a skit was about to end). When I first saw Mysterious Theater, I didn't know it was a wine glass the lady was drinking from, I thought she had her tongue on a cherry lollipop.

  • Vincent Twice!

  • Here is the complete voice cast for this segment:

    Jerry Nelson - Sherlock Hemlock

    Kevin Clash - Watson

Marty Robinson - Vincent Twice, Sir Rodney

    Camille Bonora - Lady Agatha

Richard Hunt - Woodhouse the Butler

  • e intro is bloody scary!!even though i haven't seen dis 4 almost a decade,e intro scares me...

  • I've also noticed that Vincent Twice doesn't even SOUND like Vincent Price! He sounds more like Clyde Crashcup from "The Alvin Show," IMO

  • You know, I read that Masterpiece Theater and Mystery! are going to merge into one program this year. I smell a fanfic coming up in that style, with Alistair Cookie and Vincent Twice co-hosting "The Mysterious Monsterpieces Theater!"

  • I never knew about that. The last thing I heard about Vincent Twice and Sherlock Hemlock was that, Vincent Twice was taken off Sesame Street in the year 1999, and Sherlock Hemlock was taken off Sesame Street in the year 2000. I wonder if the directors and producers of Sesame Street are putting both Vincent Twice and Sherlock Hemlock back on Sesame Street. If they are making "The Mysterious Monsterpieces Theater", I wonder if they are using the same Mysterious Theater intro.

  • Maybe they'll combine both intros in some way.

  • I was thinking that the absence of Sherlock might have had something to do with Jerry Nelson's semi-retirement, but maybe I'm wrong on that. After all, we still have the Count and Fat Blue. It would be great to see a crossover like that.

  • Even though Jerry Nelson is in semi-retirement, and Richard Hunt passed away in 1992 and Camille Bonora no longer works on Sesame Street, Kevin Clash and Marty Robinson are both still alive and kicking, and they still both do frequent work on the show (particularly Clash).

  • Well, considering the status of Elmo now, I'd say Clash's work on the show is more than frequent. Lol.

  • True, but unfortunately Clash's work on the show is no longer what it used to be. This is because, due to how much time Elmo has on the show, it's very rare that Clash performs anyone but, and therefore he is not given nearly the chance to stretch his vocal abilities that he once was. Which is a shame, because Clash in fact has quite a wide reperatoire of voices. Too bad he's not given the opportunity to show them off anymore.

  • they should get elmo to scram... hahaha..!! just joking... :P anyway its such a waste to see Clash unable to show more of his talents... :(

  • What did Vincent say their last name was? Lord and Lady Knocklee or something like that?

  • Yes, Vincent Twice did sound like that he said that their names were Lord and Lady Knocklee (I'm not sure if he said Lord but, I know he did say Lady Knocklee). However, Sherlock Hemlock said that their names were Lady Agatha and Sir Obney.

  • Actually, he called him Sir Rodney.

  • ha i always thought it was sir obney 2 i guess we were both wrong

  • Yes, I guess Sherlock Hemlock was talking a little fast or unclear that it sounded like he said Sir Obney when he actually said Sir Rodney. I wonder why Vincent Twice said that their names were Lord and Lady Knocklee in the beginning when Sherlock Hemlock said that their names were Lady Agatha and Sir Rodney. Also, I know that the butler's name was Woodhouse, so I'm not sure who on this skit was named "Lord" or "Knocklee" by first or last name.

  • How in the world did SHerlock Hemlock become a detective?

  • Sherlock Hemlock has to do with detective Sherlock Holmes.

  • The cat is under the cricket pat that the guy is HOldING, yeah good one Hemlock

  • I wonder if this was the only Mysterious Theater skit where Vincent Twice had a mustache because in the other three skits, I never saw him with a mustache. Or, maybe he had the mustache in all four skits but, you probably couldn't see it in the other three skits since his den was very dark. But you could probably see his mustache on this skit since it's the only skit where all the lights are on in his den.

  • He's always had a mustache. Like you said, it's easier to see here because the room is brighter.

  • That's true. I'm not sure why the lights are on, on this skit but on the other skits, all the lights are turned off. Maybe they accidently forgot to turn the lights off on this skit. I know this Mysterious Theater skit (The Mystery of the Missing Cat) was the last Mysterious Theater skit being produced.

  • Actually it was the first one. That's why the setting had not yet been firmly established. The Missing Toast was the last one.

  • I remember now that "The Missing Toast" episode was the last episode. I remember reading it on the Muppet website under "Vincent Twice" that, that episode was the last one. Also on "The Missing Toast" skit at the end Vincent Twice said "until next time, if there is a next time." That was probably meaning that's the end of the Mysterious Theater skits. Plus, I'm sure as soon as Sherlock Hemlock and Watson found out that Vincent Twice was a thief, he thought to himself "I quit as the host."

  • BTW, who's performing the butler in this clip? I'm guessing either Richard Hunt or David Rudman.

  • Richard Hunt.

  • Must've been one of his final performances on the show back then.

  • I think this was the very first Mysterious Theater skit to be taped, back in maybe 1989 or 1990. Even though I'm sure it had the animated intro (it was probably cut off the tape by accident), I can tell it's one of the first ones because all the lights are on in the den, there's lightning flashing outside, and Vincent Twice is speaking in a slower, more ominous manner. Does anyone believe me on this?

  • I believe it came first wiley207. And I remember seeing it with the same intro, it's just that it got taped late ever since it came on as I was a baby.

  • Ha ha! Giant mat of Sumatra! "The giant rat of Sumatra, a story which the world is not prepared to hear" ...or something like that.

  • It's gnat.

Boy did I love Mysterious Theater. Vincent Twice Vincent Twice is the man.

  • I wonder why Mysterious Theater didn't show the episode of "The Adventure Of Sherlock Hemlock And The Giant Gnat of Sumatra." Maybe they couldn't think of ideas, or they forgot to film it, or maybe Vincent Twice just said "The Adventure Of Sherlock Hemlock And The Giant Gnat Of Sumatra" for no reason even though it was never going to be filmed.

  • Probably closer to that last theory. Sesame Street does that all the time. With Monsterpice Theatre, for instance, Cookie Monster frequently states what will be coming next week and it never happens. They just want to make connections with the theme of the day.

  • ya.. i also wonder why... i'm very curious about its storyline that's all...

  • Yes, I also would've loved to know it's storyline. However, see above the comment Garrettk41said about Cookie Monster/Alistair Cookie says about the stories that happen on Monsterpiece Theater. I can agree what Garrettk41 said.

  • Watson is so cute and funny

  • This is the only Mysterious Theater clip that had wolf howling and the intro. music at the end as Vincent Twice was ending the Mysterious Theater clip. Also, this is the only clip where the lights are on in Vincent Twice's den. This is also the only clip where Vincent Twice was speaking slowly and not in a scary way since the intro. was scary with a painted woman, thunder and lightening, and a wolf howling.

  • The butler's name is Wodehouse. Hah!

  • the guy in the 1st part looks like Guy Smiley

  • I like the one where the Lady looks at that guy and say I beg your pardon

  • I beg your pardon lol

  • I remeber this when I was little

  • So do I. I also guessed it before they showed where the cat was; "mat".

  • Yeah Guess what mat hat bat and cat rymes
