Lady, how would you like it if someone blew at you daily? You really are the dumbest lady i've EVER SEEN. Behaviors like blowing on them or tipping them back just makes them even more scared of you and then they'll never stop pinching, not that many pinch anyways. Usually, crabs use their big claw to hold onto things, if your crab thinks its going to fall off of our hand, it'll latch on.

Warm water doesn't always work. My crab Ichabod pinched me, hurt like hell, and when I put him under warm water, he pinched HARDER I actually have a scar now. The best thing to do is to not panic and make sure the crab is flat so it won't fall and try and coax it into walking.

I understand the concern about tap water, but you aren't submerging the crab. You only need to run warm water over the shell until he lets go. I was pinched about two years ago after my friend had frustrated the crab, and the crab let go within 30 seconds of being placed under the tap. No water got INSIDE the shell, and the crab is still alive today.

i've had hermit crabs (big ones) for years and have been pinched plenty of times... running them under water is the worst thing you can do. they only get scared and pinch harder >.> your best bet is **STAY CALM** lay your hand down on something so you can hold it completely still and the crab will let go when it feels safe.

I was assisting with a Kindergarten class the other day and we were learning about my 5 pet hermit crabs that I had brought in. Apparently one of the kids went home and watched some videos on You tube (which I couldn't believe). He purposely got himself pinched and stuck Hermie in the water!!! It kills them when you do that!
