nuclear reactors don't release gases from their tops. its all contained within the reactor. so some of this vid. is unrealistic. and I'm pretty the gov. would have regulated the amount of emissions cause they're so many hippies).
@skordijhl I'm amused by the assertion that only some of this video is unrealistic. Although nuclear smokestacks most definitely do emit steam from their tops, try a Google images search of "Nuclear Smokestack" for several thousand examples of this.
It's set in the future, though; the government in the fictional setting of the film may be quite different from our own.
@jstudios98 I think the majority of the similarities to Wall-E are due to us both getting ideas from the 1972 film 'Silent Running'...the rest is coincidence, since Wall-E came out the day after I finished this
@elfskater98 How does it suck? Because you don't understand it? Also, Disney did not make it, Pixar did, Disney has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual production of the films that Pixar make (except for sometimes when they get voice actors).
@elfskater98 "Pixar is the Cartoon part thats why its called Disney Pixar fucking dumbass." That does not explain why it is called Disney Pixar at all, or why I'm retarded. And Pixar isn't a cartoon. :/

Fascinating! Amid the flashy effects, I like the physical ones the best, especially the raindrops and the various lighting techniques. I'm currently working on a lego stopmotion 50s film noir spoof, so this was a vast source of inspiration.
I am going to make a movie where in a future where the planet looks similarly like Coruscant. Which means I have to buy a greenscreen program, then Carrara, before being able to film real lego figures with a Coruscant-like backround?
@legocompassstudios well...I have been using Carrara and/or its predecessor Ray Dream on and off for 13 years. So just owning the software isn't going to be enough, learning how to use it and create the kind of imagery you want to make could be a pretty long process.
There are lots of free greenscreening options, for instance CineGobs, though I haven't tried it it's supposed to be good.
@legocompassstudios well...for the look at the buildings in the commercial at the beginning, nothing was real so no greenscreen was involved. The scene with Carl and Jack on the balcony had a greenscreen.
@SmeagolStudios So, you used greenscreen, right? And after reading your website, you said that you used an entirely different program for doing greenscreen. You used the animation from Carrara and imported it onto the greenscreen program. Am I right?
@legocompassstudios the buildings weren't greenscreened because they were computer generated. I did greenscreen footage on top of the footage made in carrara though using other software, yes.
@SpencerReedBass I used Carrara mostly, there's some explanation in the "making-of" article linked in the vid description, also a full list of software I use in the FAQ on my channel
@jay1995100 Heh. I made this before Wall-E came out. Similiarities aren't necessarily coincidental though because Wall-E and this film were both inspired somewhat by the 1972 movie "Silent Running."
@DudeWheresMyMind LEGO doesn't make the hat in gray, just brown when I made this film, though it's now available in black and tan too. No gray though.
@SmeagolStudios - I see. I had that problem with a hair piece not too long ago. My solution was just going out and buying a small can of spraypaint with the color I needed.
@DudeWheresMyMind Yeah, if I make a sequel to this I'll probably buy a second hat and paint it gray, and use that for all but the closeups. The surface of the hat loses some detail when it's painted, unfortunately.
How about the animation for the rain itself? I read your description about Unrenewable on your website, but I can't recall reading anything about the actual rain besides spraying your minifig with a spray bottle.
@razorxxlego as in the rain in the air? The rain in the air was done in Sqirlz water reflections, I basically rendered it there on a black background then composited it on top of the footage in Axogon Composer. (Any program that can composite one video layer on top of another with a "screen" blending mode would work)
Sorry about that, that would be a result of the cropping tag I'd used to get rid of the bars on the sides after the facts. Removed the tag, should work now.
I used a program called 'Axogon Composer,' and filmed with blank faces, so the rest of the face was also added in post. The making-of link in the vid description may be of interest to you.
Can't really compare them, Carrara is a 3D animation program and AE is a 2D compositing/editing/effects program. It's like saying Word is better than Excel.
ah i get it now polytech stole a government project involving the plant because they thought that it would give them an edge in the air purifying business. but the prototype was stolen by the idealist who was most likely working for the omni corperation. but polytech wanted him declared insane so they could cover there tracks but they still got caught. at least thats what i think....
You know, you could of tinted Jack's hat with a marker. But I guess you didn't want to mess up the hat. Or accidentally mess up Jack's head with undried marker ink. I know that happened to me.
