  • Great amp demo it's a fact these amps were designed to be used with pedals to color your sound.

Marshall came up with this amp idea after the lead guitarist from the band the Who requested that Jim Marshall design something that would be extreamly loud, so loud that Pete couldn't hear the audience screams.

The plexi style originally was a PA head tweeked a bit by adding two bridgable input channels. high & low. The rest followed the same wiring as their vintage PA head they no longer make.

  • @JBL8863 yup yup

  • cheers dude, i dont have the amp anymore im afraid, never changed the tubes either. had a dsl special edition, that was quite nice, trying to get hold of a jcm800 tbh, got an orange tiny terror at the mo which is incredible but not great for live use unless its miced up. need more volume!!

  • Ha! I found your video again and was reading my previous comments. Still sounds great. Have you experimented with different tubes, and did you experience any real sound differences? I havent tried different tubes yet but have been experimenting with different OD pedals with better results with my DSL. Havent been able to find a 1987x to actually try out. Was considering building a Weber clone of one though, just havent taken the plunge. Keep on rocking!

  • What speakers are in your cab?

I ended up getting a DSL50 and so far I'm not liking the tone. Marshall says it's supposed to sound like an 800 on one channel and a plexi on the other....I'm not hearing it. I should have gotten a 1987x. What do you think of your DSL?

  • @pedecamp

i really like my dsl -- but mines the special edition one which apparently has some different parts in it. wouldnt say it sounds anything like a plexi or a jcm 800 - its definately a more modern sound, not as open sounding as either of the others - altho if you use channel a with the crunch button in with the gain maxed - all of the eq set to 6, it sounds pretty nice, especially loud, sounds killer.

i had a standard dsl and hated it, very fizzy, but the special edition seems spot on

  • @pedecamp speakers are the g1275's?? they are the standard speakers in the jcm900 cabs. ive just got the 412 version...OH MY GOD!!! LUSH :)

  • forget my question!!

i didn´t read the description when i made the question

    but awsome video anyway!!

  • what is your cab. model?????

    awsome video!

  • Are you using pedals from 4:40 on or is that without? Sounds great

  • @pedecamp just the amp :)

  • @simonbeckwith - holy smokes that sounds great! I might have to re-evaluate getting one; was leaning towards a JCM800. What year is the amp? Is it a reissue, I heard they have more gain than the originals.

  • @pedecamp cheers man, its a great amp, just a shame you need a powerbrake to get the best out of it. id probs lean towards an 800 on reflection. ive got a special edition dsl at the minute, very versatile

  • @simonbeckwith - In my research I tried an Egnater Rebel 30 the other day just to try the power scaling it has built into it. You can go from 1w to 30w. I was blown away, it didnt affect the tone one bit, just the volume! Its $150 mod to add to any amp; I was thinking of adding to a 1987x if I get one. It would definitely make this amp more usuable for many situations.

  • @pedecamp awesome, ill look into that!! cheers dude

  • From 4:40 it was total tonal blizzzzzzz.. ;)

  • the amp does seem to shit over all the pedals. i bought a blackstar ht drive a few months ago to boost the gain a bit, thats working pretty nicely now :) ill stick a video up sometime soon

  • hey thanks for your help I got one today it is so versatile . I traded my gibson faded sg for it with a case .

  • nice one!!

  • hey how would you compare this to gibson faded sg is it more versatile where you could play blues or metal with it. and rock too

  • Yeh its a great guitar, extremely versatile with the seymour duncans, and the coil tapping. It's a great all round guitar, blues, rock, punk, metal, anything you can throw at it basically!

It's a mahogany body and neck, set neck aswell, so it's as good as a gibson sg, probably more versatile and with better pickups. I was really tempted by a faded sg a while back but bought the schecter instead!! I've just bought another Tokai, so the schecter will have to go if ur interested?

  • lol you know it!!!

    might as well jump...JUMP!

  • fives minutes in....."ahh cant you see me standin here i got my back against the record machine"

    FUCKIN WINNER
