I'm 45, first listened to Rush at the age of 14. First saw them at the age of 15. Fell off my radar when vinyl turned digital although I did buy Signals. Played this a few days ago for the first time in over 20 years and managed to sing it all the way through. Still find it amazing that this amount of sound can come from 3 men with relatively simple machinery. All hail me for remembering the words. Rush, immortal for writing this piece of magic.
The masterpiece... on vinyl... awesome. I listened to this band/album when I was 16 years old and I'm 44 now... still sounds as good as it did then, if not better.
I love Rush! My 1st ever concert was Rush, they were touring on the Caress of Steel album. They played the 1st side of Caress of Steel and Most of Fly by Night, and all the best of their 1st album! It is one of my best memories, I saw them again on the Hemispheres tour and that was a great show too! Just too much good music, to play. What does a band do when most of their songs on every album are great? And their still going strong. They are only behind the Beatles and the Eagles in album sales!
i have listened to rush since i was 14 now 47 . i love music period. but rush is something different. it seems as if it is able to shift ,or even levitate me to a new or is it an old understanding of what true goodness could have been.i never followed religion.but after 30+ years i now believe to be RUSHIASM.
I think Hemispheres was Rush's pinnacle. You could easily argue either side... that 2112 or Moving Pictures was their best. But Hemispheres was the total package of Rush; great stories, great music, and nothing you would hear anywhere else. 2112 was the last step in that direction and Moving Pictures was the first step away from it. Hemispheres is the perfect and final blend of both.
@Not12Complain Hemispheres is my second favorite Rush album. 2112 my first, and I think it was just because that was when Rush become untouchable by the record companies, and that's what that whole song was about. The individual against the mass. Hemispheres is an excellent album, but 2112 speaks to me on a bigger level.
If you are tired and bored of your everyday life, giving this record a spin can take you to amazing places that you and only you can go... The Rush magic works everytime.
I hate how perfect, epic songs like this are under the radar while braindead garbage with lyrics "girl look at my body, i work out" is the big thing now. Fuck society.
@TOSportsFan1990 hahaha Tell me about It.When this album (it was an Album back then) came out.Rush was not very big.I saw them perform this tour in NYC at the Paladium. The place only held 6000 people.hahaha Still 1 of the best concerts I have ever seen. The musicianship is flawless!Even the assholes back then could`nt get it.hahahaha Until of course Tom Sawyer came out.
@SuperMelon1 Considering their talent and mastery, Rush is still underrated. I mean, look at the trash that people listen to these days. Can you tell me how crap like stupid, fucking LMFAO is even in any top chart? It's because people are stupid and they can't appreciate the beauty of real music, not electronic garbage. I fart in society's general direction. But I digress, let's enjoy this masterpiece Rush has given us.
I have a favourite track off of just about every studio album from Rush. There are times where I can't pick just one. (2112 would be one of many.) Hemispheres is another one. I love this tune and rank this as one of the top tunes from them in the 70s. While 2112 is great and all, the reason I love this tune more is that this is the last concept album, not to mention there's tons of progressions that you hear on headphones. (Fade ins, right to left ear. I could go on.)
@RockLivesOn33 Still got those vinyls eh I would without any doubt place my fortune on Neil as the greatest drummer of all time for his finnes, quickness and never ending new sounds not like some who play the same rhythm at the same speed where as neil loves classical.A friend of mine who is now passed away was taught bye Neil in Windsor as well a friend who we call styx cause he is phenominal and he is black Phil Case is his name.Best of luck.still have my 33s as well in CANADA.EHHHHHH
im lovin it, great song, my favorite band. isnt it crazy that every album made an every song is great on every album, isnt it crazy. there the best. my opinion. Alex lifeson inspired me to play guitar. great song, i got to get this album, i got all albums from rush, exept this one, dam that sucks, but ill get it.
One of the greatest prog rock songs of all time, I just wish my generation would be able to bypass the ignorance of modern music to allow bands such as Rush to be a part of their musical taste. I'm still yet to see at 16 how people will favour all this modern shit over incredible bands such as Rush..
@SamHerrington14 Just the other day it hit me as I walked down the halls of my high school while I heard two girls talking about 'Mack Miller' - that these people are missing out on so much. They'll never know the tragedy of Jason Becker, or the incredible lyricism of Neil Peart. Instead they subject themselves to (in a nutshell), mindless noise. It bothers me, & I try my hardest to shed some light. So far, little success.. but a little is still some...
im 18 and throughout high school, i met quite a few people into rush who id never suspect. there was everyone from metalheads to people into rap who secretly loved rush. and most others were easy to convert. see? our generation isnt all bad :P
From 12:43.. just amazing. Rush explores all possible moods in this full song.. Happiness, depression, and just plain beauty. This section is one of the most beautiful parts of any Rush song.
i love this song but i love 2112 more, becasuse i can relate to that story more, as does every rush fan. I get this story, im more of a left brain guy though. Still, 2112 is easier to get into, but with enough listens i will get into this too, i suppose. My favorite rush song is still the camera eye
A 28 minute kickass saga that sings about the black hole(book 1) and nails the function of left/right hemisphere and the corpus callosum(bridge of death) correctly(book 2). If there were only three more bands like Rush then the US wouldn't have suffered from crappy science education.
@DeftCrowMk3 You know what? That's funny. I actually have probably learned more about science from Rush than when I went to high school. Not only that, it was much more interesting learning it through Rush.
Really awesome you could get the entire song up! Such a beautiful work of art, just like every song Rush wrote is. Thank goodness these guys do what they do.
I love the fact that he got the whole song start to finish but I hear static like it was from the album version. I wish it was from the Rush Re-Masters version. It would have been cleaned up with no static!! And believe me you can hear the difference!! I got 2112 & A Farewell To Kings on the Re-Mastered versions!!
If i had to pick a rush song, i would go with this one. Amazin lirycs, amazin music, amazing musicianship, and amazing subject, all put into a 18 minute epic song. Just perfect. What else to espect from the best rock band of all time? RUSH!
you wont believe the story i can tell. in san jose, 1981, this album cover was used in either a radio station commercial or a record chain commercial. John lennon was murdered. So they made reference to it, BY USING THIS ALBUM COVER. they had the naked guy shoot the guy in the suit WITH A LASER, the guy in the suit falls off the album cover, through the WHO "TOMMY" cover, onto THE WHO "WHO'S NEXT album cover, knocking over the members of the who on the cover. Complete with sound effects. TRUE!
How did you upload this video when it's 18 minutes long? I made a video of The Voyage and Hemispheres together in one vid, that's 28 minutes long, and I couldn't upload it.
@jerrythepotato1919 No, things have changed since then. The new maximum is 15 minutes, and a lot of non-partners upload 15+ minute videos. I heard your account has to get in good standing or something like that. Unfortunately, mine isn't because WMG likes their same respective sex.
@119matburn to me, it looks like the artwork represents the two sides of the brain: the left side of the brain controls emotions and creativity, and the right side controls the logical and mathimatical part of our brains, and the characters drawn on the artwork represent those attributes.
capa belissima,arranjos complexos e perfeitos,peso e lirismo ao extremo,letra que mexe com aimaginaçao,vocais vigorosos.E O RUSH!curti muito este album em minha juventude.curto ate hoje.
Was this recorded off of a record? Seriously, I can hear the crackling of the needle at the beginning and end of the song.
