@kagomesinsanity Oh course! That was one of the key features of the 3G network back in the day (simultaneous data/voice network streaming). Naturally, this phone does both very well on the newer HSPA+ network. Cheers!
Great review but there is no autofocus on this phone. For the price they are asking you can get a high end android. Looks nice but I cannot go back to a smaller screen.
hey i have a question, i have no clue what it is, but my battery just drains. i cant have a full charge by the end of the day and i dont even use the phone alot! only message a few people here and there....anybody have an idea of what the problem is???
@t3jayzz Hi! In your situation, I would check to see what apps are accessing the internet, and how frequently. Facebook and weather apps tend to be guilty of high refresh cycles. Also, make sure you do not charge your phone while it's on. Try killing the battery down to zero and charging the phone while it's off. This will properly calibrate it (do it only once in a while though, not every day). By contrast, I get 11-hours with heavy usage, bluetooth, 7 email accounts and Facebook. Cheers!
@lezerpiramis Hello! THAT would be the proximity sensor. It is only activated during calls because its function is to detect when your face is near the screen, to disable the LCD (so your face doesn't touch things by accident). Mine doesn't glow red, but if it does, that may indicate that it's an Infra Red sensor (just guessing).
@11kopitar It means it won't load Adobe's Flash Media Content. Google it up, most cell phones out there don't do so since as of now Adobe hasn't found a way for it to work without needlessly slowing down phones.

can anyone explain me what advantage gives you the NFC enabled. (Near Field Communication) I've heard that it has something to do with magnetic fields but I did not quite get the meaning. Thank you.
@andys4ever1 Hi! NFC allows your phone to communicate with "Smart Tags" and Point Of Sale (POS) systems wirelessly. Both your phone and the tag/receiver have to be very close to each other (usually touching). This technology is similar to Master Card "PayPass" systems...except it can include multimedia as well (tap two phones together, transfer a song, etc). Not very developed yet, but it's getting there. Cheers!

best review of the 9900 I've seen, thanks a lot! your review just made my decision to go out and get this phone, which I did, and I'm loving it so far! :D
i've a question, i would appreciate if someone could reply me. Is there any task manager to kill all the applications opened or to shut down runing apps ? , thanks/
@deefeefe Hi! There are apps available, however as for default app management on newer BlackBerries, all you do is hold down the “BlackBerry Button” (the button with a bunch of little dots) for 1 second and it shows what's running. You then choose an icon, and then close from there. Certain items cannot be closed (e.g. camera, browser, messages, home). Cheers!
I have a blackberry 9900... is there any point in me getting a playbook aswell? Can someone please reply and explain the point of having both? Thanks :)
Bold 9900 is not better. The 9790 is. You must consider the battery life. They share the same battery but 9900 has a bigger screen and faster processor which leads to the battery draining out much faster and the battery is quite small at 1230mah compared to previous bold 9700/9780 at 1500mah. Can barely use the 9900 for a day.

Hi their ! thanks a lot for the review its really good.
I have an Nokia N8 and i hate it the only thing i like about it is the camera and the battery life and i was thinking to get the Nokia N9 or the Lumia 800 but after i saw this BB i really like it im just not sure about the battery life how is it ? is it really bad ?
@chveymadnic Hello! The battery life on the 9900 with moderate usage is ok. You would have to charge it daily though, so I don't know how often you charge your Nokia, but you want to keep that in mind.
I must have watched 20+ reviews of the 9900 on YouTube but this is definitely one of the best. Would have been useful to have known your opinion on the battery life and whether it freezes at all during normal use...?

@mascaltzone7 Hi! All Blackberry users are aware of this, however to truly gage a device's potential I chose to time the cold-start of every device that I review. This way, there is a consistent method in which I can compare the general power of each device. However, thank you for bringing this up, as it may not be known by those currently not on 'Berries. Hi! I really like this phone but I'm also debating between getting this or and HTC Amaze 4G or an HTC Sensation 4G. I've had an iPhone before and it was ok but i'd rather use my itouch. I've also had two androids but never a blackberry and it would be nice to try one out. The issue is I really like the features that androids offer and I was thinking about subscribing to T-Mobile TV (something blackberry doesn't offer). So can anyone help me choose?
@7CR9Torres9 Hello! Okay, there's a lot to answer here so I'll try to keep it short! (1) Keep it simple, the top three here are the iPhone 4S, HTC Amaze 4G and BB 9900...ignore other options (2) If you're familiar with iOS, why not consider the new 4S? It's an iTouch with a phone (on steroids) (3) BB's are simple and practical, not cool and multimedia-centric like Apple or Google devices (generally speaking) (4) If you use heavy multimedia and want T-Mo TV, the choice is clear: iOS or Android.
@Bigmark145 Hi! If it's as a second phone, absolutely. Switching all-out form an iPhone to BlackBerry for some people is almost impossible. But, as a secondary, you have the best of both worlds. The iPhone for the tons of apps, touchscreen interface and large display, and the 9900 for BBM and keyboard. Cannot go wrong my friend, cheers!
@TheAnfieldOne Hi! Absolutely. It's just as easy as copying over MP3 or WAV files to the "Music" folder on the phone, or on the memory card. The phone will automatically find music and playlist files. The player also has an integrated equalizer, so you can adjust the tone to your liking. Cheers!
@Mrsoccermaniac100 Oh boy, that's a tough one! If I could include the BlackBerry 9790 that's coming very soon, I would choose it! But if I have to choose between these two, I'd go with the 9900. A physical keyboard is very important in my day-to-day routine, and after being on Android for this long I would really enjoy the 9900's massive keyboard...plus, it looks pretty sexy in an Otterbox Commuter case, haha. Thanks for writing!
@TheCoscar101 Hi there! I'm actually in between both the Bold and Torch right now so here is what I've noticed. While the larger screen on the Torch is awesome, I find the slide-out keyboard to be a bit of a nuisance...constantly having to slide a think LCD-plastic assembly upwards to access my keyboard (I type a LOT). The Bold's keyboard, other than the fact that it's always exposed, is wider (i.e. larger). I find typing/navigating easier/better on the Bold 9900. That's just what I noticed!
Quick question.... I currently have a HTC Wildfire and i am pretty much set on getting this phone, but i feel it may be a slight downgrade on certain features? are there similar apps/games available for the blackberry?
@dillsley Hello! Unfortunately dillsley, a LOT of Android users will feel that going to a BlackBerry is some sort of "downgrade", mainly because of the large touchscreen display and intuitive apps that they will be giving-up when moving over. There is some truth to that, however you need to be sure that a BlackBerry can do what YOU want it to do for you. You Wildfire has some similarities with the 9900, but the 9900 is faster. All that's left is the OS...something you need to see if you like.
@WirelessInsider Thanks for the reply and useful advice! although the 9900 is a brilliant device, i have decided to stick to HTC and get the Sensation. thanks again keep up the great reviews! :)
I really want of these phones...........btw from what I've heard the back case is not plastic, it's a glass weave with a bit of carbon in there too, but they couldn't have made it completely out of carbon fiber as that would interupt signals to the phone, and especially to the nfc bit in the battery door, but it still looks really good....great video :]
Dear BlackBerry developers: the K750 Sony Ericsson used to have an auto focus 2.0 mp camera ... would it bother u to better finish this amazing BB and make its camera with auto focus !!!????
@nidorc3 Haha yeah you said it! Another phone, the Sony Ericsson K790, had one of the BEST 3.2MP cameras I have ever seen. Incredible quality...more like a camera with a phone. Manufacturers sure could learn...even from themselves. The SE X10 can't even hold a candle to the K790.
i am really confused ! please help me.. i donno if i shd wait for the new iphone or get the 9900.. coz i feel , end of the day u end up using the functional aspects of a phone.. so u myt get bored of the fun apps on the iphone one day.. bt the 9900 on the other hand , i think will not get boring coz the basic functions a phone shd provide are fulfilled beautifully.. bt it lacks few things.. like a frnd of mine said u cnt mark stff while sending ! bt the iphone myt be too expensive ! HELP !!!!!!
is there a facebook app? and about how many apps are available? and what type? are there games too or just business stuff? if i decide to get a bb, which options can i not use if i don't get the bb option??
@sportsfake Hi! Facebook, yes. There are thousands of apps, a large chunk productivity-based. There are games, but very limiting at the moment (more non-touch BBs than touch, so developers still working on new games). Certain apps that require heavy touch interaction may eventually be released (e.g. Angry Birds) but this will be based on the phone's screen size and navigation interface. The 9900 is the first bar-style phone from RIM that is this powerful. Newer apps will make use of this power.
how does the device handle multimedia content. especially the music player interests me since i don't seperately want to use an ipod. there isn't any video or article mentioning these features and i am burning to find out.
@kinnasna Hi! Heads-up, the BlackBerry 9900 has a 5MP camera, not 8MP. Also, since it doesn't have auto-focus, the pictures are definately better on the iPhone 4, based on a comparison I did with friends. But if it's daylight outside or you have sufficient lighting, the results will be very similar. Cheers!
@PRETTiiE305 Samsung Epic. Basically, it depends on what you want! There's is NO fair/equal comparison between Android and BB OS because they tailor to very different crowds.
I had iphone 3. Than i had blackberry 9700. Than i had iphone 4. Now i have Blackberry 9900 and i would never ever buy a iphone again! Blackberry is soooo fast and stylish, i also love thenkeybord. Iphones are for kindergarden people who dont now how to spend their time! Blackberry 4ever!!!
I'm sick of folks gauging this and other blackberry products to apple or htc! They are apples and oranges. Just like a benz coupe and jeep wrangler share no affinity outside their general distinction of being automobiles. Please stop bringing them up in the same conversation, "A" because most bb enthusiasts don't give a dam about them, and "B" because it highlights your suppressed discontent as an i phone fiend.
@360734pd7 Same here hahah coudn't wait but shit is expensive even tho upgradin..almost to reg price..but worth it!!!!!!!!.......Still haven't raelly play with it..using my back up phone stil...I baby this phone..Spent 2 much money n waited to long for this blackberry usin a Old ass phone lol
@YoungstaD713 Hell yeah it was expensive even with the upgrade, but you should use it =) I needed an upgrade and I was tired of the Android system and the iPhone is expensive as well. But the Blackberry is badass =]
@360734pd7 yeahhh ima use it.....IPHONE is overratedddd....first BOLD touchscreen! and i always love blackberry teh battery..i dun really play games and dis is like iphone n BOLD since its thin lk it and i heard andriod apps might get sum to our phone....just put a screen protector. not to long ago..have to! i baby this haha
@WirelessInsider flash and youtube are the biggest reasons why i left my blackberry and picked up a nexus (which i do love)...i think im just having blackberry withdraw lol!
Hi! Just wondering, in the previous bbs that i've owned i've had to convert the videos i wanted before i could play them on the bb. Has there been anything done on the 9900 to improve on that? can i just dump the shows i wanna watch on it and play it? Thanks!
HI I just had a question about the blackberry bold 9900 , I just wanted to know if it can still do color id or be buzz on the phone meaning the light will bled difirent colors for sms or calls please let me know bc I am thinking of purchasing this phone .
great review. I just obtained my 9930 last week and I love it. Like you said, it is very fast at everything. build quality is great and everyone i show mentions how light it is. best phone on the market IMO

7CR9Torres9 4 months ago

Best review of a phone i have ever seen, Really sold it to me my friend!
JakeTheSnakeSwift 4 months ago
I already own an iPhone 4 and I'm thinking of getting the Blackberry 9900 as my second phone. Would you recommend it?
Bigmark145 4 months ago
@Bigmark145 Hi! If it's as a second phone, absolutely. Switching all-out form an iPhone to BlackBerry for some people is almost impossible. But, as a secondary, you have the best of both worlds. The iPhone for the tons of apps, touchscreen interface and large display, and the 9900 for BBM and keyboard. Cannot go wrong my friend, cheers!

Based on value for money and the fact that I'm a teenager, which is better between the curve 9370 and the bold 9900?
cmanslash 4 months ago
Hi, I've never had a BB before, can you easily get a lot of music on to them?
TheAnfieldOne 4 months ago
@TheAnfieldOne Hi! Absolutely. It's just as easy as copying over MP3 or WAV files to the "Music" folder on the phone, or on the memory card. The phone will automatically find music and playlist files. The player also has an integrated equalizer, so you can adjust the tone to your liking. Cheers!
WirelessInsider 4 months ago
@WirelessInsider so just using a USB to get songs of itunes basically?
TheAnfieldOne 4 months ago
which would you prefer
the blackberry torch 9860
or
the blackberry bold 9900?
Mrsoccermaniac100 4 months ago
@Mrsoccermaniac100 Oh boy, that's a tough one! If I could include the BlackBerry 9790 that's coming very soon, I would choose it! But if I have to choose between these two, I'd go with the 9900. A physical keyboard is very important in my day-to-day routine, and after being on Android for this long I would really enjoy the 9900's massive keyboard...plus, it looks pretty sexy in an Otterbox Commuter case, haha. Thanks for writing!

What is better Blackberry Bold 9900 or The Blackberry Torch 9800
For Texting Facebook Youtube (anything a teenager will like =D) ?
TheCoscar101 4 months ago
@TheCoscar101 Hi there! I'm actually in between both the Bold and Torch right now so here is what I've noticed. While the larger screen on the Torch is awesome, I find the slide-out keyboard to be a bit of a nuisance...constantly having to slide a think LCD-plastic assembly upwards to access my keyboard (I type a LOT). The Bold's keyboard, other than the fact that it's always exposed, is wider (i.e. larger). I find typing/navigating easier/better on the Bold 9900. That's just what I noticed!

Quick question.... I currently have a HTC Wildfire and i am pretty much set on getting this phone, but i feel it may be a slight downgrade on certain features? are there similar apps/games available for the blackberry?
dillsley 4 months ago
@dillsley Hello! Unfortunately dillsley, a LOT of Android users will feel that going to a BlackBerry is some sort of "downgrade", mainly because of the large touchscreen display and intuitive apps that they will be giving-up when moving over. There is some truth to that, however you need to be sure that a BlackBerry can do what YOU want it to do for you. You Wildfire has some similarities with the 9900, but the 9900 is faster. All that's left is the OS...something you need to see if you like.
WirelessInsider 4 months ago
@WirelessInsider Thanks for the reply and useful advice! although the 9900 is a brilliant device, i have decided to stick to HTC and get the Sensation. thanks again keep up the great reviews! :)

it does noot have auto focus
gabrielpcruz 4 months ago
I really want of these phones...........btw from what I've heard the back case is not plastic, it's a glass weave with a bit of carbon in there too, but they couldn't have made it completely out of carbon fiber as that would interupt signals to the phone, and especially to the nfc bit in the battery door, but it still looks really good....great video :]

Dear BlackBerry developers: the K750 Sony Ericsson used to have an auto focus 2.0 mp camera ... would it bother u to better finish this amazing BB and make its camera with auto focus !!!????
500 Euros ! Damn it !
nidorc3 5 months ago
@nidorc3 Haha yeah you said it! Another phone, the Sony Ericsson K790, had one of the BEST 3.2MP cameras I have ever seen. Incredible quality...more like a camera with a phone. Manufacturers sure could learn...even from themselves. The SE X10 can't even hold a candle to the K790.

is there a facebook app? and about how many apps are available? and what type? are there games too or just business stuff? if i decide to get a bb, which options can i not use if i don't get the bb option??
thanks
sportsfake 5 months ago
@sportsfake Hi! Facebook, yes. There are thousands of apps, a large chunk productivity-based. There are games, but very limiting at the moment (more non-touch BBs than touch, so developers still working on new games). Certain apps that require heavy touch interaction may eventually be released (e.g. Angry Birds) but this will be based on the phone's screen size and navigation interface. The 9900 is the first bar-style phone from RIM that is this powerful. Newer apps will make use of this power.

hey which one do you think has a better camera .. the iphone 4 or this? since its says it has 8 megapixel camera .. thanks ;)
kinnasna 5 months ago
@kinnasna Hi! Heads-up, the BlackBerry 9900 has a 5MP camera, not 8MP. Also, since it doesn't have auto-focus, the pictures are definately better on the iPhone 4, based on a comparison I did with friends. But if it's daylight outside or you have sufficient lighting, the results will be very similar. Cheers!
