@shuikan8 - the placement of octobans or toms is key to ones personal ability around a kit it's a matter of style, technique and speed. a kit is only as loud, responcive, or fast as the drummer behind the kit not the kit itsself- so while you'd "personally" set your kit up different, mangini sets his up for flexibility and a technical aspect of his playing style.
