  • "don't think about it too much." Well said brother! Thanks!

  • okey

  • Fix your channel

  • HATE BIEBR!!!! but I like this video and you accent

  • 7 people thought your name was Justin Bieber

  • amazing teacher

  • Wow. this really works! Started trying this out right after I watched the video and I can tell a difference.

  • Why is you Middle finger permanently bend? is it by practicing over and over or any bone injury?

  • OMG I love you so much (no homo) I subed because you're amazing! :D

  • he is very great

  • Do you know a good bassist teacher? I am a bassist and I mainly use a pick so thats why I watch your videos. Thank you if you could help me or not.

  • This guy reminds me of Drilbit Taylor because of his mouth

  • Thanks you helped a lot

  • If your fingers are small it's hard to mut the lower string with your first finger. Also when yo uslide with your finger that way your nail could get in the way. That's why I only mute the higher strings with the index finger and the lower strings with the palm.

  • Keep going Justin, you have opened a new chapter in the history of guitar teaching. Thanks buddy!

  • To be honest, i was hesitant to click on this video because it was so ling >,< this is a good and informative video but i wish it was under 5 mins :/

  • Make a video on string muting with the fret hand. Examples of the kind of playing I'm talking about is Can't Stop and Give It Away by the Red Hot Chili Peppers

  • with great power comes great responsibility

  • Thank you so much Justin! I'm here in California, and your accent suggests to me we're on different sides of the planet. Yet here I am watching the very video I've been searching for made by a guy who is reaching around the globe, sharing his knowledge!!

  • hey justin, your lesson is really good. But i could not implement this technique when i was playing electric guitar with distortion higher up the fretboard (at 7-10 frets) while standing as it makes the index finger to curve and not straighten even if i put effort, thus making it difficult to mute the strings present physically below the one i m playing. i tried to find ways but couldn't do anything. What would u recommend in this scenario?

  • hey justin awesome lesson. this technique is really difficult when im using electric guitar and especially with high gain settings and with distortion. could you plz do a muting tutorial with an electric guitar including high gain and distiortion? cheers

  • @FreeMediaWorldwide i was thinking the same.

  • tks very good your lesson

  • Hello Justin. I have been playing guitar for 3 years now almost 4 and I play really fast stuff. I can play a few Yngwie songs and stuff however, when I economy pick I get some extra noise, will this also apply to someone like me? Isn't a flat finger bad for when you play fast?

  • thank you.the tip part gave me the tip on how to play it ^^

  • Great work J.

  • Good lesson Justin, I've been following your lessons for a while now and I can honestly say they are the best on youtube. My favorite lesson was the fast rock lick on the pentetonic scale, which I practice ALOT, but ironically the biggest problem that I have with playing it fast is excess string noise, but this lesson has given me good insight and I will apply this technique to my playing, but won;t obssess over it. Thx again for posting and explaining as thoroughly as you do :D

  • This is more even more important if you're playing electric guitar with large amounts of distortion. If you don't have right and left hand muting, it sounds like a total mess.

  • Great lesson. Took me a long time to figure this out, and here it all is in one lesson. Just a suggestion, Justin. Do a quick follow up video with an electric guitar on high gain. String noise is HUGELY amplified in those conditions. Really makes you pay attention to playing scales cleanly.

  • Great lesson. This will help immensely particularly with my electric guitar playing because I get an awful lot of string noise from that. Thanks again

  • Great lesson,thanks Justin

  • You know, I have NEVER had problems with string noise.

    Weird...

  • Hey Justin,

Your lessons have improved so much over the years, and im not saying they were ever bad. Great teacher, thank you.

  • @MetalSwitch95 While it may not be a lesson for you, I'm pretty certain this helped alot of lesser guitarists. Surely the title of the video would have given it away, and youd know your own skill enough to know you dont need muting tips?

  • @MetalSwitch95 not everyone is as brilliant as you.

  • @MetalSwitch95 There are people out there that need help with this. He isn't going to "get back to lessons" because one person already knows how to do something. So if I already know how to play a major scale, do I go comment on that video saying it's a waste because I already know how to do it? No.

You're being a douche. You made that comment strictly to brag and make yourself look superior and more talented. You're actually a tool.

  • @Fender1424 No I didn't. I'm sure Justin could play circles around me. But a major scale's different to learning how to play cleanly. My opinion was just that this is something that should be learnt by the player, like picking is. So he's not really teaching anything.

  • Nice Gretsch!

  • Hi Justin, just noticed the nut on your Maton, it seems to be cut diagonally?- is that a modification you have had made? ...Just curious as to why. Big fan of your lessons- they are much appreciated

  • Hi Justin, Do you have a requests section anywhere??

I have been searching for a lesson on the solo for Hotel California an old classic from the Eagles....but find mostly covers only and I have tried to follow these but not too successfully......I would really enjoy learning this solo properly and I think you would be able to teach it better than anyone else...........Vic Australia

  • hey justin how far up should the action on an acoustic be?

  • Great lesson as always

  • PLEASE Do one of these in relation to string bending. It's a serious problem I'm having difficulty with where whenever I bend, say, the 3rd string, when I release the bend, my left hand finger seems to catch on the strings lower (4th, 5th, 6th) and they start ringing out. Please help me out, Justin

  • @beano090593 you want to be working on the palm muting of your right hand, there. Place the bottom of your right palm on the strings you don't want to ring out, just above the bridge.

  • Thumbs donw for commercials at the beginning!

  • which guitar is that in the background ?? looks neat :)

  • click on 0:01 to skip the add :)

  • I have always wondered how blues players like clapton, bb king and john mayer do that really aggressive scrub down all the strings yet retain the sound of just the note they want. Now i think I know how. Thanks justin. You the best

  • I was just wondering how to sort this problem when this video pops up. Thanks :D

  • Finally I could understand what muting is about. Thank you so much

  • I was waiting for this lesson! :D Thanks!

  • its kinda complicated =/ cus ive learned (n my brain already adjusted to this) that i should always press on the strings with the tips of my fingers as much as possible.. n ive mastered that.. n now the tips have to sort of change what theyve always been doing >.> this is gonna b more difficult than any other techniques!

  • coooooooooool.

  • best guitar teacher on youtube hands down.

  • @aaronfrazer Yep

  • This took me a little while to get down, but it's true that once you get it, it's natural and improves your sound. I can see why you wouldn't really want to do a lesson though, lol, because I was really caught up in it for a while.

  • I've always done this without noticing. Lucky me

  • Extremely useful lesson. Thanks.

  • hey guys, just a tip.. A great song to practice this on would be "Can't Stop" by the chili peppers. Or almost any of the Chili pepper's song for that matter..

  • great lesson this has been doing my head in on electric guitar i was searching not so long ago for a lesson on the subject but couldnt find a decent one, i kind of knew about the technique using the palm and everything but i think i have been thinking about it a bit too much, i even started putting a hair band on the nut of my guitar ( youve probly heard of that lol) but im definatley gonna try not concentrate on it as much, cheers justin

  • take care of urself too man

  • Thanks for all these lessons. Just a test. #LOL

  • I find it really difficult to mute strings when I'm finger picking, any tips, baby?

    Thanks

  • you should use the Malcolm Young signature Gretsch in one of your videos!

  • i have this problem. I wish i could get it to sound like a recording but when i play on distortion it's hard.

  • How about muting while bending? Is it only the positioning of your palm? Because it's kinda hard for my to find that spot quickly where i mute the strings I don't wanna hear but still hear the bend

  • you do explain so well, thanks a lot Justin

  • Even though im an intermediate player by now, i always watch Justin's lessons since you can always learn something no matter how big or small. Even if you don't they serve as a good reminder how to play or if you need practice.

  • Thank you

  • I think this needs a lot of practice to get used to because I still get some noise and when I concentrate on muting completely I mess up while playing >.<

  • Yeah its veery important stuff, at the beginning it you think "whatever" but when starting to do some solos and lead kinda things its really useful

  • wow this realy helped was annoyed by the ringing strings in scales

  • blumpkin

  • niceee
