  • i see god's eyeball over penn's right shoulder!!! lol

  • What's the cameo?

I loved when Bill Murray got shot for his practical joke.

  • Wow I didn't know George Romero was 6'5. I guess I would have found out if I went to the Sci-Fi expo several years ago but wasn't able to attend.

  • why does there keep coming an error??

  • "Oh yeah, I saw Eddie Van Halen just the other day!!!! Yeah, he's a zombie now..."

  • okay penn. i watch your videos high out of my mind. and i gotta say, when you move your hands that much: 1 30. it makes my eyes water. please stop it..

  • I am really good at beating ppl up

  • Hi Penn fans. Penn Says videos have been discontinued, so you won't be seeing any new content on here. You can check out our Profile on our Channel Page for more info. We'll still be checking in, so hope to keep chatting with you all! Thanks!

  • John William Corrington did well with "The Omega Man" . . .then he blew it with "I am Legend" . . .he should have left well enough alone. He failed to bring us into the sense of "family" by killing Sam and never really developing Anna or Ethan to the point where we loved them or really even gave a rats ass about them. . .honestly, once Sam died I gave up on the movie and just sat there staring at the screen in disbelief like a , well, you know, a zombie.

  • @jedirifleman Well that was the point with I Am Legend. It was adding a new level of horror by eliminating the "family" and being literally the last person left on Earth. The zombie aspect was less the story and more just an excuse to justify only one living human being. At least that's what I took from it.

  • These Crackle intro are REALLY goddamned annoying. What's with all those idiotic synthesizer noises and stupid sound effects? It's really obnoxious.

  • @JoshSitar Also, the Honeymooners invented situation comedy, not Lucille Ball.

  • @JoshSitar Don't know what browser you use, but there's probably something comparable in all of them. I use AdBlock Plus in Firefox. It's not hard to figure out which things to block, even from the webpage name alone. The only place I've found that I couldn't block commercials was Hulu.

  • Penn, you are amazing.

  • Why is his left ring fingernail red? I've noticed it in his other videos too.

  • Cont.: Check it out: hero goes to fight this wild representation of the animal/dark side of humanity, and in their conflict forms a brother-hood. Giglamesh then civilizes Enkidu and they continue to have many quests together. It goes on, including a quest for immortality and the lesson that such is not in the domain of humanity, a poignant point to consider in the zombie genre, but I think this bit is rather similar in content to the living with zombies aspect of modern movies.

  • Sure, Romero had a very strong hand in forming the modern zombie genre, both form and content as Penn says here. But really, the 'other' aspect of the zombie flick, and the forming of a family and learning to cope with the other, I think goes all the way back to one of the oldest written texts known in history: Not THE bible, but The Epic of Gilgamseh!

  • Well said Penn! I remember seeing you in Sabrina the teenage witch tv series haha...

  • Bill Murray was aawesome but went so quickly! :(

    SPOILER

(am I supposed to say "spoiler" before my comment?)

  • Dude omg wat is your IQ you make me feel dumb, you seem so smart

  • Konawa Lake Monster video!!! Amazing Footage!!!!!!

  • I like vampires, the only reason they're pissing me off is because of Twilight and the stupid Twitards.

    I still like vampires though.

  • I couldn't agree with you more I miss the badass vampires like in Thirty Days of Night (although I didn't care much for the film no offense to any of fans of it.) but now they seem too human for their own good.

  • Yeah, right on.

  • @TeaChanPunker Time to write some vampire films . . .

  • Maybe you should, I would watch it XD

  • @TeaChanPunker :-D I'm not Penn, I'm helping out on the comments for the Penn Says channel. But were Penn to make a vampire film I would watch it, too. I do know of an 90's vampire show that our friends over on Crackledotcom have that is a great show: Forever Knight.

  • Ha ha oh, does Penn comment back usually, or do you usually do it for him?

  • @TeaChanPunker It's almost always us, the Penn Says minions. :-)

  • Ha ha, I see. I thought it would be too cool if he actually responded back to me. But, thank you for responding back to me as well ^_^

  • @TeaChanPunker Ha, you're welcome. People are always slightly disappointed. It comes with the job.

  • Wait, didn't "Shaun of the Dead" also think of putting Humans and zombies living together in harmony?

I would like to see "Zombieland" very much, because vampires are starting to piss me off. I still love Dracula and Nosferatu though :D

  • ever tried vampire the masquerade bloodlines?

    werewolf the apocalypse?

    changeling the dreaming?

    mage the ascension?

  • why?

  • Humans and Zombies lived together in the movie "Fido".

  • Omigod, hahaha, that movie is amazing. Yeah, you're right. I mean, I knew there were other movies that did that, but he said that this one was the first or something. I don't know. Did Shaun of the Dead come before Fido, I think it did.

  • Shawn of the Dead was in 2004 and Fido was in 2006, so you are right that SotD was first. Both great films and funny as hell!

  • "Hey man, it's the zombie apocalypse. Want to drop a church piano on one?"

    "Fuck yes."

  • it's funny that you said you liked "Dawn of the Dead" it was actually the first of Romero's films to feature the word zombie, you can catch in when peter says "there's going to be a million zombies in here soon" over the radio. Originally Romero used the term "ghoul" to define the flesh eating monsters. it was repeatedly used in the first film "Night of the Living Dead". 1969

  • Is Penn paid to say good things about Sony films? This, the Wrestler?

  • I can't say he isn't paid by Sony for these but I can say they are both really excellent films.

  • well thanks for watching and for your support!

  • I liked zombieland too

  • I see the comment down there about World War Z.

As I was reading it I was trying to figure how they would make it into a film and eventually decided I would like to see it in a TV medium. Maybe a mini series. That would make me happy.

  • great point AzhiDahaki9 - an HBO mini series would be interesting to say the least

  • I suppose that would be pretty cool..but I'd have to wait for the season dvd to come out and watch it on Netflix, like I did with Bullshit!

  • Favorite of mine hmm..maybe, Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things. Not only is it Zombies, it shows what happens when people fuck with shit they shouldn't. And it has the Led Zepplin song in it!

  • you don't like comedys?!

  • night is the best romero film

  • zombies were people controled by voodoo

  • Zombies are the new little black dress.

  • Lucile O'Ball is from my home town of Jamestown NY. We got a few museams dedicated to her. And its where she is barried.

  • Have you seen "I, Legend"? Excellent movie, i haven't read the book, but it's about one person in a world like that rather than a family/group.

  • I believe the book is called "I Am Legend", and you're right it is an excellent movie.

  • Sorry, "I Am Legend" is correct, i was thinking of "I Robot" which also has a good concept. Same actor, similar titles, i got them mixed up :P

  • Oh Penn, you and your hand motions

  • he said happy ending :45

  • another funny zombie movie...shaun of the dead....love it

  • Best zombie movie ever! :)

  • (Shaun of the dead is the best...)

  • The Winchester!

  • You've got red on you

  • None of Romero's movies say "zombie", and he made it a point not to.

  • zombie land is nothing like dawn of the dead..........

  • Use Lucille Ball, Miles Davis and Zombies in a sentence lol

  • But G Romero has some set of Glasses

  • Like the windshield of an 18-wheeler!

  • Romero and Stan Lee - maybe they have the same optometrist?

  • Christians are zombies...mindless, brain-eating..zombies...you just don't see their rituals where they eat orphans for sustainance

  • hahaha, somebody had to work in a slam against Christians.

Why don't you go for the obvious joke of transubstantiation?

  • zombieland was a very funny movie but the question is, which is better; shawn of the dead or zombieland?

  • Out of the two...I would have to say Shaun even tho I also loved Zombieland.

  • i still dont get the red finger nail and watchband to match it !! why does he do this ? anyone know ?

  • The red fingernail is in honor of his mother.

  • I never noticed that before.

  • It's in honor of his mother. When he was first starting out, his mother told him to get a manicure because people would be constantly looking at his hands. As a joke, he had all of his fingernails painted red but now only has that particular one done.

I think it is a great use of misdirection while doing a trick too.

  • and you can always check out the Penn Says Painting My Fingernail episode

  • Yay! Heya Penn!

Zombies as a comparison to communism/socialism is a very interesting concept, it could include anarchism as well. Its strange to me how lately the lines of socialism/fascism and anarchy have blurred and zombies are a great expression of that blurring. Somehow all these years of being let down by their government led people to think the only way to fix it is with more government legislation. I don't understand what caused the flip but its pretty mindless zombie like.

  • If you're a game you should play left for dead.

  • Don't usually like comedies? That surprises me.

  • its like a green screen with wind or im salvdor hahaha

  • i think penn is cool but really ...weirdly i hate sony every time i click on his vids... wahts wit dat?

  • Its cuz like other filthy liberals, you think people should do things for you for free!? Just guessing. If I'm wrong I'm wrong. I thank Sony for providing us this service. Penn's great.

  • For you classic movie geeks, "The Omega Man" is a 1971 adaptation of "I am Legend", starring Charlton Heston. On netflix instant, I believe.

  • There is also "The Last Man on Earth" starring Vincent Price, and these are all movie adaptations to Richard Matheson's short story "I Am Legend" written in 1954

  • I don't know how any zombie movie could be cooler than Shaun of the Dead.

  • Surprisingly zombie land is, I know it defies all reason, but zombie land is better than Shawn of the Dead

  • *Gasp* Blasphemy!

  • Zombieland better than Shaun of the Dead - that's some pretty high praise

  • Romero talks of his zombies in Dawn of the Dead representing consumerism, as quirky as that seems. Scene after scene is intended as social satire on the brain-dead or mindless consumer. It's interesting what came of that. So much more than was intended by Romero. He tapped into more than he'd hoped with his little zombie scenario : ) I'm excited to see Zombieland.

  • so when Zombies start popping up - stay away from the mall - you're probably better off at the library, but stop by the local armory first

  • YES! And while at the library, you'd better get to the fiction section and start reading Max Brooks' Zombie Survivor Guide.

Remain vigilant! The zombie apocalypse is coming!

  • Max Brooks is fantastic. I love World War Z especially. <3

  • George got the idea from the book that "I am legend" is based on,i dont remember the name or author but a little research will find it.

  • Richard Matheson, Same title

  • thank you.

  • Yeah, but "I am Legend" was a modern version of "The Omega Man" True?

  • The omega man is based on I.A.L

  • lol, a comedian that doesn't usually like comedies.

  • Yeah, that's why they say to never buy a car from a mechanic. I was in construction for over twenty years and absolutely HATE to work on my own house!!!!

  • I think Zombie's represent the unknown in all of us...what makes one person good and another bad,and if we do not understand that,is there a breaking point...are we all potential Zombie's? So they could represent what we fear the most, our ultimate lack of self-control...our greatest fear. Also Jesus was indeed the original Zombie.

  • Kinda rambling at the beginning but makes his point. i agree

  • Zombie movies represent a world without government. It's a world with complete freedom. It allows humans to get back to their roots of us the human group fighting the whole world of nature.

Now that we are on top of the food chain, the only enemy we can envision is ourselves. Today it is only governments that "permit" us civilized folk to go to war against ourselves. Zombie movies put that power back into the hands of the common man.

  • Interesting insight.

  • file83 - fantastic comment - do you have a favorite Zombie movie?

  • Thanks Penn, yeah, I'd have to say that goes to Dawn of the Dead (2004). I love the '78 version too, but I just got into the 2004 version a little more.

  • My Yinzer (a native of Pittsburgh) neighbor let George Romero park his car in the lot next to my house. It's been there for 30 years and has a bunch of cats living in it.

  • i thought the idea of zombies started with jesus.

  • no, there were Jesus zombies long before Jesus.

  • you my friend are not good at spotting jokes ;)

  • zombie jesus? sounds like a Troma film

  • That kid stole Super Bad's act.

  • he liked the movie whats with all th negative comments

  • I really hate people who overthink everything, i mean how can you people even enjoy life.

  • Zombies are absolutely awesome and are a magnificent creation and form of art.

  • red left ring fingernail....

  • george romero is the man!

  • What I get from all the zombie movies, books and comics is that a constant threat unifies people and can make them into a family. Those groups who fail to do so are destroyed. Fast.

    Cavemen.

The cavemen had no zombies to worry about, only hunger and predators and the weather. All fought with precarious tools and weapons, with no help from anybody or anything else.

  • Zombies to me represent the Yuppie society. They consume everything without providing anything back even at the expense of others. The Humans represent Hardworking People that support and enable the yuppies and in the movies end up becoming food on the zombies plate.

Zombie movies seem to have meanings that are very different between peoples perspectives. For example some people seem to connect them to an innate fear of communism/socialism/fascism.

  • NoogLeader- any thoughts on World War Z?

  • I haven't read it yet. I think I might. Have to make a trip to Barnes and Noble. Been Sticking to How to Books lately.

  • I agree with you about Romero. His work was genius, and it was wonderfully inventive.

I really do hate zombies running and becoming generic monsters, instead of the unified and indistinct mass of "others" as you said.

Even though they ran in Zombieland, it was very well done and stayed true to Romero's brilliant style.

  • I thought 'Night of the Living Dead' (1968) is the one that started the Zombie Apocalypse genre.

  • True to the point that Penn made, Zombies appear in lots of fiction and folklore... but the idea of a Zombapocalypse was pretty much Romero.

I can't wait for the movie adaptation to World War Z

  • I got my copy of zombie survival guide signed by max brooks in toronto truly a wonderful book.

  • I read it. It is an EXCELLENT book. Chilling to the bone but excellent.

  • World War Z is a great read - it will be interesting to see how it translates to film...

  • Can it be translated? It is about one guy going around interviewing survivors AFTER the war is over.

  • It could be translated if you really think about it. He interviews the people and while he's interviewing the people with the "juiciest" stories. It could be like zombie thing...

  • Better way to word this actually....It could be like a flashback when he's interviewing them...they start talking...a couple of minutes into speaking to them it could just go into a flashback kind of deal.

  • starts up fast eh?

So Winblows has caught up with where Linux was five years ago.

  • being fast is only one part of it.

  • shit.... you think too much.

  • i wish i could paint my middle figure nail and be totally artsy and new.

  • I don't think I am gonna see that movie. That kid is just a ripoff of the other kid that acts just like him who is an offshoot of a basic nerdy shy guy which was a trend started by napoleon dynamite and im fucking sick off it. 9/10 these kids are fucking jocks anyway.

  • Thats a pathetic reason to skip a good movie.

  • Shitty actor is a pathetic reason to skip a good movie?

  • Actually Jesse created his shy nerdy guy persona before Michael Cera, Cera just got cast in more popular movies.

  • I don't really care, Its all just shit acting.

  • Arrested Development

  • Michael Cera wasn't in Napoleon Dynamite...Jon Heder played Napoleon Dynamite and that's who he's referring to making the "nerdy, shy guy" basis.

  • I've seen Napoleon dynamite many many times and Napoleon was not shy at all.

  • He actually was...it wasn't until the end of the movie that he really "broke out of his shell"...I mean yeah he did his stupid shit like the Loch Ness part and a couple other stupid things that would lead you to believe he wasn't shy, but through out the movie he is acting shy like 80% of the time.

  • Also...try to find a better movie to watch "many, many" times...It says a lot about your character for watching that mediocre "comedy" more than once.

  • That cloud behind penn looks like an eye.

  • IT DOES! holy piss

  • whoa... maybe its a sign from heaven, well it cant be because (as penn might say) "signs from heaven are BULLSHIT!"

  • You, sir, are a gigantic faggot.

    Zombieland is fantastic.

  • awesome movie ! just seen last night.i hate zombie movies in general with the same old virus story bla bla bla Zombies getting shot bla bla bla. However in this case a fcking howel bill murry and woody a great team.Worth your time 2 thumbs up :)

  • crackle has a big zombiefest promotion going on on their website, i dunno penn, seems fishy

  • haha - this comment took longer to pop up than expected - thought it would have been right after someone posted "first"

  • The only thing I don't like about "zombie movies" is that it makes people treat the zombie threat as a joke, instead of the real danger that it is.

  • Best comment EVER!

  • Imminent zombie apocalypse!

  • I hate sitting through all this "bullshit" just to see you penn, why can't you just stop whoring yourself and do your own damn channel without crackle!?

  • Thanks Penn. The original Dawn Of The Dead is one of my favorite films as well.

  • Loved Zombieland, glad to know a man I really respect enjoyed it as well. Great video Penn.

  • Essentially the exact comment I was going to leave, so I'll just tack on an agree.

  • George Romero awesome! And wow, i didn't know he was like 6'7.

  • My girlfriend and I love zombie movies and that is another great thing about her. I haven't watched ZombieLand yet (I haven't gotten a dvd quality copy online yet) but I am looking forward to it! Too bad I will get one after Halloween, boo.

  • I was going to wait for it to come out on video to see it, but if Penn says it's good, I guess I'll have to go out tomorrow and check it out.

  • I take it you haven't seen Zombieland....

It's an unusually good movie. Don't wait for the DVD, go see it.

  • Penn and I have to much in common. Libertarianism, atheism, bass, and now our love for zombies!

  • I took a class on zombies about 2 summers ago at the University of Alabama. I thought it would just sitting around watching zombie movies, but we really explored the genre, it was enlightening.

  • I am a film buff, and a zombie film fan. Before Night of the Living Dead the zombie movie genre was revolved voodoo zombies. Then romero comes around and creates the reanimated corspe zombie. (If I am wrong about this I am sorry this is just coming from what I have known so far so if I am wrong and there is a pre 1968 reanimated corpse zombie movie please tell so I can watch it and be more the wiser. Thank you)

  • Remero actually got the Idea from I am legend (The book).

  • somebody who actually knows their shit. :)

  • lol Why thank you =), I have never received such praise for being a Zombie nerd haha

  • White Zombie 1932

    I Walked with a Zombie (1943)

    Frankenstein

Carnival of Souls (1962) (quite a few similarities)

The Horror of Party Beach/Invasion of the Zombies 1963

Plan 9 From Outer Space/Grave Robbers From Outer Space 1959

The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies 1967

    Just to name a few.

  • White zombie- voodoo

I walked with a zombie- voodoo

    Frankenstein-not a zombie

Carnival of Souls- are more ghost then zombies

The horror of party beach I have to look that up. It sounds awesome thank you for introducing it to me.

The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped being Human and Became Mixed Up Zombies- hypnotized

  • meb1982 - thanks for sharing the list - have you been watching AVGN's horror movie reviews? White Zombie was included in this year's crop.

  • Penn, I'm very excited to see that you follow AVGN (at least his horror movie reviews). I enjoy both of what you guys do. I've seen every review he has done and watched every show of Bullshit since the beginning. :)

  • I have not, but I am now.
