  • Sounds normal to me under cold conditions. I'm sure if you start the car later on, after it has fully warmed up, it will not do that.

Mine does this, and I've also been told that it is normal.

  • no i have the same car its the oil line sending oil to the top of the motor its ok i have had 8 dealerships till me thats what the noise is so dont worry it sounds fine

  • Come to think of it, that doesn't sound like the chains. It sounds more like the cam lobes knocking on the valves. This happens more frequently the lower you get on oil (can start happening before the min oil indicator shows up on the display), or if the oil sending unit is starting to fail. Audi runs their engines very rich and it is pretty typical to go through a quart of oil every 1500-3000 miles depending on how hard you drive the vehicle.

  • One thing you might want to have checked are the chain tensioners. Do you still get a rattle after the engine warms up and during deceleration? If so, it's most likely the tensioners.

  • sounds like you need to change your chain guides!

  • we have the same problem and we had to fill up 1litre of oil about 2000km

  • @driveinshowbunnik

If it was that, I would hope that he would have seen the min oil indicator showing up on the display and being on constantly while the car was running.
