I find it kind of sad that most people believe Jim continued using til his death. Not so. Jim got clean in the mid to late 70's. He moved to Bolinas, California in the 70's, enrolled in the Methadone program and got clean there and lived there til 80 or so. A report said the doctor told him his heart was ruined from all the years in active addiction and that was the long term effects. While most never read Forced Entries(his 2nd diary), he died clean :) Miss and love you Jim, never got to met ya

the female singer with the black or dark brown hair, dark lipstick and the leather/spiked dog-collar is hot as hell. Anyone know her name? I think she's playing guitar as well but am not sure.
This song is just fantastic. I checked it out because some guy said that Florence + the Machine's song Kiss With a Fist is like this with different lyrics. That is not true, but this song is still amazing.
The heroin, homeless VietNam vets, street violence, Studio 54, Pres. Ford to NYC: Drop Dead, Gay Liberation Front, Plato’s Retreat at Broadway and West 73d, Mayor Abe Beame, etc. Jim came from a real place. If he had written this song a few years later it would likely have included all the friends who died from AIDS. It’s about real NY City people who Jim well knew. RIP, Jim.
I've lost two friends in the past 3 months and "People who died" has offered me a much needed catharsis this afternoon. Though I'm only finding him now Jim Carroll, is showing me that people live on in memories.
punk is not a fashion statement! IT'S A WAY OF LIFE! Think about houw many freedoms you you lose a day, ythe wake the $%#@ up and do something. If not, sit back and be sheep while the wolves play!
This song hits me like a runaway freight train everytime I hear it! It brings back memories of how many people I've lost in my almost 41 years on this planet. They will always be alive in my heart and in my most cherished rememberances. It hurts thinking about all the friends and relatives who've"shuffled off this mortal coil". The one memory that kills me whenever I think about it isd the day I fond out my mother had to be taken off life support.
ya'..know..kno..we are probably all gonna die 1 of these days .jimmmy gave us somethin' to think about . i am baked as a kite. jim carroll's lyrics on this little ditty are too real for the average human to want think about. some people were never ment to drive a benz or an esc$^%@#$de some folks however, see the world much more clearly, when it is not through the windshield of an automobile .
@whitetrashoutlaw, that's very sad. There isn't one god damn positive thing to say about illegal drugs. Did heart disease run in his family, or was his heart weakened by drugs? I don't know.
Jim was Catholic. God bless him. I don't think Christ would stand there and say, "Go ahead: Stick that needle in your vein; go ahead take crack - destroy yourself." Christ would not say that, but I know WHAT would offer such blandishments.
@rockyracune Christ drank wine regularly. There's plenty of positivities with drugs: your mind is opened; it's expanded you learn from, and about, yourself. They're fun. You can control your mood. LSD can give you religious trips where you see Catholic figures. You learn to empathise with people and to relax - two things you Religious zealots need to learn to do; try Ecstasy.
I'veread all Jims books, am a big fan, knew he disliked Cocaine so how'd you know he 'smoked crack'?
I still remember this song from '80...never realized how many movies it showed up in. ET the EXtraterrestrial, Dawn of the Dead and, of course THE BBall Diaries. Jim died too young too...but 60 is better than 14...sweet dreams, Jim
