every tutorial on everything related music just doesn't sound as good as the records u play! i wish the ppl makin the big bucks would speak up! bastards...
TO EVERYONE WHO'S FUNCTIONS (REVERSE) ARE GRAYED OUT -
i had a big problem trying to find out how to do this, the reason it won't work is because when you convert it into a new audio file you need to go down to the file format drop down menu and select WAVE. then it will work and you will be able to reverse your file or do whatever it is you weren't able to.
@breadbassed is says "apple loops can only be converted into file type AIFF" and wen i convert it to that and try to edit it, it says, cannot edit apple loops...is logic ninja not using apple loops or somthing?
I have to keep coming back to say thankyou. Your videos have given me the ability to sit down and enjoy making music with a cup of coffee. It really makes my day. THANKYOU SO MUCH.
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I used to do this on reason, but my logic board fucked up and reason stopped working for some reason, and I've been trying so hard to get this effect on logic. This is great.
Not Bad at all Dave. Logic is obviously not bad at this type of shadowesque effect. Pro tools is V good for this. Cubase is pretty good to, with its easy clip volume stuff. Interestingly Ableton Live the so called magic elastic tools is incredibly poor at audio manipulation. DO you care?
Great vid man! How would this work for a vocal track? Considering there may be very few easily detectable transients, wouldn't splitting result in popping/clipping sounds?
Hmm... some very clever little tricks, but it feels more like something that would be solved more easily in other ways. For example, perhaps something like splitting a waveform and mapping the splits to an EXS instrument, so that the stuttering can be mapped as a MIDI sequence? Or umm... perhaps an Ultrabeat? I'm still learning my way around some of the trickier parts, but this seems like a perhaps less than optimal solution... Logic could do well with its own native slicer for this work :)
It's true that there are more than one way to skin this cat... I use the EXS and in tip #2 I think I go over that technique.. The thing is, when you are getting meticulous, many times the best way is to use audio in this fashion. Ultrabeat works well in sidechain mode as well, but I find sometimes that this method is just slightly faster. Luckily, in Logic there's at least 7 ways to get what you want, and your flow will determine your tools and techniques! Have fun, *bows*
I love how you incorporated little work flow techniques into this segment (i.e. holding option while using the scissor tool). These are the things that I might not otherwise learn for years because they are buried in remote corners of the documentation. The more of these that you show, the better.
Great tutorial. Very nice to see you move edit quickly in Logic.
I really want to know whether this is how they do the stutter in house music as well? Often you hear the loop getter shorter and shorter in the climax in house music before the kik comes back. Is there a simpler method of repeating loops, plugins? Thanks in advance
I think it might either be your priveleges, or you are working with an apple loop. Apple loops must be converted to standard PCM audio files before you can change gain on them.
Thanks for your help, but i wasn't working with an apple loop, i was working with an audio file that i recorded, Also the privileges r set to read&write, so im all out of ideas, its my computer and i'm the only user. 'Change Gain' is the only option available. it sucks ass. P.s. ur vids are very helpful. its great of you to be posting them.
these vids are great*****,. Ive been using Logic for a couple of years. but I never stop learning new stuff. all/any tips are great. I wish I could say I know it all. but Unless you are one of the guy's that designed Logic, and then they, probably don't even know all it can do. this program is so deep. cheers
cheers ninja, would you convert all midi tracks to audio before bouncing it?

@Meyons1424 Try changing the file format when you save them. Hope that works for you. Remember to click off the audio file then back on after too.

Here's an ultimate dumbass question: where the hell is the option key on a mac keyboard?
JuIsTheLaw 3 years ago
its the alt key!
7649460 3 years ago
Why do they even call it the option key? I would have thought that calling a key with the word "alt" on it the "alt key" would make perfect sense...
JuIsTheLaw 3 years ago
yeah well hahah i understand but i think its kinda like there's another option or alternative! So pressin the alt key gives you another option lol !
7649460 3 years ago
My key board has both alt and option written on the same key. ;)
