The track is amazing, but basic laws of supply and demand apply here. Ie, how many copies of this album were made to begin with? If you make an amazing record and make 50 copies, then of course the price is going to skyrocket. Therefore the title of this video is irrelevant.
kraftwerk, tangerine dream, synergy, klaus shultze, wendy carlos, brian eno, and others were making better examples of this genre in the 70's. the description of this video reeks of shameless self promotion.
@ajdicks No quite. Most of the groups you mention were using analog synths. Today some records that i have from Synergy. Great albums but the technique was really different. Most of the band in the 70's use moogs where as gas use a couple of Emax II. As far as i know the used also a korg ms20 that was sampled resulting and a much interesting sound. Mellotrone is nice but not the same.Nevertheless, it's all great music. Cheers.
@ajdicks Yes... and there are contemporaries that are doing it on the same level as those european greats. Oneohtrix Point Never and Emeralds are ambient electronic masters. Sun Araw and Mark McGuire are making amazing ambient music that isn't electronic but is worth checking out.
This video clearly demonstrates the incomprehensible scope, complexity, and intelligibility of life and our existence. Yet somehow, this video also demonstrates to some people that God doesn't exist. I simply don't understand how the two can go hand in hand. Can something, especially a complex and intricate something, come from nothing?
Regardless, AMAZING song and video. It quite simply gave me goosebumps for about 9 minutes!
@partikc I personally adhere to the Christian faith, so I believe in the Christian God, if that is what you're asking. However, I'm not going to preach. Just stating an interesting phenomenon that I tend to see that often that baffles me. People adhere so strongly to science and reason, however, they never seem to step back and ask why we are able to do science and conduct reasonable thinking at all. If the universe is an accident, I find it amazing that it accidentally allowed us to ponder it.
Creation itself is an illusion. If you assume that everything needs a creator, then you get a contradiction, therefore the very question of what created the universe is invalid, it just doesn't even make sense to ask what created the universe. There is no answer. A question without an answer isn't really a question at all is it?
Is it so hard to believe that the universe simply exists?
@grezgorztube Haha, OK. Well, I need a lot more room to answer then a YouTube comment. However, where is the contradiction? I suggest you look up the definition, because assuming everything (in the physical world) needs a creator is not a contradiction at all. Further, everything in this world, that we know of, has a cause. Therefore, is it "so hard," to put this back on you, to believe that the universe itself had a cause as well? This is my last comment here, so enjoy the video all.
@redaverages Despite it being your last comment, I just wanted to point out how you totally side-stepped the concept of creation that gregorztube was questioning. If God created everything, then who or what created God? And if God always existed and was never "created", why do you discredit the concept of the universe always existing as well? There are theoretically infinite explanations as to how we got here but the idea of the Abrahamic God "creating" us has more than a few loopholes.
@OfficerNelson Modern astronomy posits that the universe is not infinite. Therefore, if you believe that the universe is eternal, then you are going against the consensus of modern astronomers. In terms of the whole "who created God" argument, I suggest you look up the kalam cosmological argument (not enough room to explain it here). If you believe modern astronomy, the only way to make sense of our existence is to acknowledge a creator outside of the universe (or you put your head in the sand)
@redaverages The Kalam cosmological argument is simply a basic argument for a creator. It does nothing to explain the existence of the creator or where it came from. In fact, it also argues that there is no such thing as an "actual infinite", which means the creator (God) cannot exist in an infinite timeframe, and thus must have been created. There is no definite logical proof to the existence (or the non-existence) of a creator.
@OfficerNelson It appears by your comment that you have completely misunderstood the argument. The actual infinite refuted in the argument is temporal. The point of the argument is that the universe has been shown (by science) to have a beginning, all things which exist have a cause (nothing we know of creates itself), therefore, the universe also has a cause. By necessity, the creator must be outside of the universe, and therefore time and space (not a temporal infinite or regress).
@redaverages "nothing we know of creates itself" - I would have to disagree. Self-organization occurs. I think the BBC did a documentary based on chaos theory that touches upon it. Saying "well, it must be God" is undermining the whole point of science and gets you nowhere.
@OfficerNelson It seems to me that you want a "proof" that God exists. You will not find one. For that matter, you cannot prove that you exist. I am simply going by what I see from modern science and from basic reasoning, and logically, that brings me to the idea of a creator. Otherwise, you MUST believe that the universe came into existence, along with all its laws of physics, on its own. Personally, I find this to be absurd. Anyway, I will try to make this my final comment, enjoy the music.
@redaverages I can think of no reason why this video should demonstrate the existence of any particular deity and cannot understand how the two go hand in hand.
The combination of video and Music is outstanding. It melt and flow together in one part. I can't hear the song without the video, or the video without the song.
You are completely right but I can't find words for this here. I think or speech has no word to describe what I feel, when I watch this video. I have goosebumps on my whole body.
Wow I can't stop watching it! Thanks IBM and Gas for mindblowing me into the unknown!!!
Wow. I heard this for the first time today, as a fan of ambient I thought this track was from present-day! it far far better than anything I've heard in a LONG time, I simply can't stop listening to it, and this video is mindblowing, its something i want more people to watch so i posted a link on facebook, people need to understand the scale of things to help put things clear in their minds as to scale...
Cult Staus Ambient Hell Yea--- if anyone can get a copy of Pete Namlook "Free Your Mind" Ill pay 460 for that-- you cant even get it on itunes anything from this label this was originally from: Emit also good on Emit was: Woob Journeyman International People Gang VooDoo Warriors of Love British Ambient House Early 90's was such a golden Age
This video is priceless... the feeling of understanding/connectedness with the universe that this video/album brings with it is certainly worth the money (or the download :P).
oh, please. who bought this for 460 bucks? Even before this was reissued it never went for 460 bucks. I love this album, I bought it when it was brand new, but I sold a copy a few years ago, in the height of its collectibility, for 170 dollars. Which was astronomical. So don't get excited.
And by the way, this was never released on vinyl. Em:t was a CD only label. Get all your facts straight if you're going to post stuff like this youtube!
whate so people pay 500 bucks to hear this! why not just download it? it sounds nice so im going to go get it of mininova. did you actualy pay 500 bucks for this?
No I did no pay $500, but collectors will. I collect Synth and Italian bikes. I also have some original John Coltrane albums..Before this album was reissue it was way to hard to get them.I sure someone out there has the vinyl copy of this in their treasure box. The video is also great... Cheers...
I like to add that this is also a tribute to the emax II a keyboard sampler. The emax II was used to made this master piece. I own an emulator II soon to be sold. This music is an inspiration to what we can achive with those amazing samplers.
