Welcome to America! We have a thing called the seperation of church or state here. According to that, if the government is going to allow a religious group to put up a display on GOVERNMENT PROPORTY, it has to give equal airtime to other religions, and yes, to non-religion, as well. If the government allowed Christian displays, but not other kind, it would constitute an endorsement of Christianity by the government, which it cannot do.

The only "evidence" for the existence of Jesus comes from the bible, written years later, by people who never met him. Considering the influence of the church over 2,000 yrs, it's not surprising it's widely accepted.
Even In his own supposed lifetime, nobody wrote anything about him, even in passing and he doesn't appear in any official Roman records of the time.

So whatever happened to "Freedom of Religion/ Speech" ? I personally can care less if an Atheist insults my religion. Bill has no position to criticize this man and shove religion down his throat just because one man discusses his opinion and a governor, who has nothing to do with this, walks by the sign.

The only thing I can even think of is "Give unto Cesar which is Cesar's but unto God which is God's" giving rise to the separation of church from state in the first ammendment as well as the forbidding of religious tests for office holders. But that's all I got. Can any Christian find anything else? Bible and Constitution are both online. Everything from the commerce clause to elections seem to be against Jesus' comman...er, teachings.

First off christmas is based on pagan grounds. There was no christmas in the first 300 years of christianity, only when constatine basically allowed the christianization of paganism...Also, the bible says not to worship his birth but his death for our sins. And lastly, according to the scriptures jesus was born some time in september, not december......athiesm is more logical, and we should be able to shout our beliefs just like the crazy, christian fundamentalist that say were going to hell....

Welcome to America! We have a thing called the seperation of church or state here. According to that, if the government is going to allow a religious group to put up a display on GOVERNMENT PROPORTY, it has to give equal airtime to other religions, and yes, to non-religion, as well. If the government allowed Christian displays, but not other kind, it would constitute an endorsement of Christianity by the government, which it cannot do.

I'm atheist and I agree with Bill. That sign is inappropriate.
Even if you don't believe in god, it's widely accepted that Jesus did exist and that he was a great guy... So why not celebrate his birthday without bringing your beliefs into it?
I am annoyed that Bill lumped all atheists into one big group though. I didn't put up that sign, so don't claim that I wanted it put up in the first place.

The only "evidence" for the existence of Jesus comes from the bible, written years later, by people who never met him. Considering the influence of the church over 2,000 yrs, it's not surprising it's widely accepted.
Even In his own supposed lifetime, nobody wrote anything about him, even in passing and he doesn't appear in any official Roman records of the time.

But I get what you mean, it's a Christian holiday so we should just let them celebrate without butting in.. but the sign was worded very politely, and I think it was a response to the fact that there were religious decorations (like a nativity scene) on state property, which is inappropriate.

I'm not Christian by a long shot, and even less of a Bill O'Reilly fan, but I don't see why it's wrong for a Christian to get angry over an anti-religious message, it's meant to upset people, the people who put it up aren't there hoping to encourage rational thought but rather insult religious people. People go on about "It's freedom of speech!"; then is it also freedom of speech to put up a sign insulting 9/11 victims next to the WTC site? Obviously lines need to be drawn.
