@MacTrikz A FaceTime account is either a phone number (if you've got a phone you use with it) or an Apple ID. I'm not sure if you're asking how to add contacts to call out or how you open your own account. Does that help at all?

On a mac, you'll need to open the address book program from your applications list. Add the contacts there and they will automatically sync with facetime. Let me know if you need a walkthrough.

hi please can you help me dysonej the problem i have is when my freind is trying to call me from his mac to my iphone 4 it says on his mac the iphone 4 user who is me needs to update to the latest version of facetime before this call can be made?

my iphone 4 is on firmware 4.0.1 could this be the problem? i dont want to update my firmware as my phone will be unjailbroken?

@yos9636 For your friend, I would suggest he check that they have the latest version of the mac operating system. It's called Snow Leopard. To check that, click the apple in the top left corner and come down to about this mac. Mine says 10.6.5. Anything that starts 10.6 is snow leopard. 10.5 will not work with facetime.

To facetime with a mac, you'll need to know someone's email address that they used to set it up (called their Apple ID). Once you learn that, add it to your contacts to facetime

@yos9636 You need to plug your iPhone 4 into a Mac or PC and open itunes go to your ipod and choose Check for Updates and let it install iOS 4.2(the facetime for mac requires the iphone be at least iOS 4.2)

@DGK123ism Are you running Leopard or Snow Leopard (10.6) as your operating system? You may not have the latest system running. I had to update to Snow Leopard before getting this to work.

I had the same signing in problem. The solution is to type your whole MobileMe address... not just the user name. IOW, type the @me.com.

@bamyo53 Weird. The first thing to try would be uninstalling the application and reinstalling. It may also be worth verifying your hard drive's disk permissions. You'd get to that through Applications\Utilities\Disk Utilities. Once in Disk Utilities select your HD and select "Repair Disk Permissions"

So I know that when I reinstall it, I do it correctly. Still can't understand the problem. I heard something about installing it from the new updated iWork trail. I am really out of options at this point.

Is it only Face Time causing problems? If so, I'll certainly try to help you out, but the thing to consider is that this is still a beta release. Bugs are expected, you can hardly expect it to just work for 100% users within a day of release, even if it is Apple. The software you're trying to use is still experimental, no need to loose your cool.
