Great film, I love Lee Marvin. I watched a movie called Good For Nothing that reminded me of this full of stupid cowboys. At first when you watch the film you think it is going to be this serious thing, but it really turns into a very satirical film of the west. It is directed by Mike Wallis who did special effects on Lord of the Rings and shot in New Zealand so it is very different. youtube. com/watch?v=gRYZNCVeZDY
Wow no one is mentioning Dwayne Hickman (Dobie Gillis) as the dirty preacher? Lee Marvin, Jane Fonda, Dwayne Hickman, and Nat King Cole all in one movie, a comedy western, made in 1965 at that. Now that is classic star power. I wish that modern day black musicians would follow in Nat King Cole's footsteps and sing like he does, he has a great voice. Now it's just rap and hip-hop bullshit. Seal seems to be the only one who sings similar to Nat, and he even kind of looks like him.Music is shit now
Yeap, they should have hanged Cat Ballou for: public sedition, insurrection, providing aid & comfort to the enemy, and treason for her actions in the Vietnam Conflict.
What a pity that people with a command of the English language are allowed to print their foul language on sites like YouTube. People like this are the dregs of humanity
Jane, wow - what a face , what a range (of emotions). That movie really stuck with me. Comedy or not it's asking some real important questions. All I can say is 42.
The part of the email that begins with "To Whom it may concern" is true. It's a quote from an article titled SHAME ON JANE originally published on the Advocacy And Intelligence Index website on April 28, 1999 and written by Michael Benge who was a civilian captured by the North Vietnamese in 1968.
This story hearkens to a real visit to North Vietnam by Jane Fonda in July of 1972, but the stories about betraying POWs is not true. There is no dispute that her visit took place and that her words and actions were in support of the enemy.
"Cat Ballou" and "Blazing Saddles" are followed closely by "Support Your Local Sheriff", "Support Your Local Gunfighter" and Terrance Hill's "Trinity" films.
@GIRlovesWaffles How ignorant of me! Yes, "Paint Your Wagon" deserves to be on that list, especially for the singing talents of Lee Marvin ("I Was Born Under A Wonderin' Star" became a minor hit for him!).
Also one of my most loved movies. Stubby Kaye and Nate King Cole are great as the strolling minstrels. And of course, what can compare to Lee Marvin's performance?
I was ten when this came out, and sat through three times in a row. When I got home, my parents were already doing the dinner dishes. Where were you? they said. At the movies, I said. End of story.
The movie was made in 64,I doubt Miss Fonda made any public statements of support for the North Vietnamese early as 1964 . She didn't go to Vietnam til 72. My point was about the previous posters slamming this film because of Jane Fonda's personal views. The film is wonderful and a classic,Fonda's views on the war shouldn't be a part of that.
Don't bring politics into this movie! This film is just pure good clean fun and a pleasure to watch again and again. One of the all time best. And Nat King Cole as we all know has a voice that's gotta be a fine gift from God.
this movie was out when i was like 11 , my all time fave at that time,,, ive seen this movie atleast 50 times, and recorded most of the soundtrack on an ole cassette player :) lol
Yup. Got a Best Actor Oscar, 1965. On accepting it at the awards show, he's reputed to have said, "I think half of this belongs to a horse somewhere out in the [San Fernando] Valley." That would be the horse leaning against the building with its legs crossed.
