Shane is Irish by blood, though he often speaks with a North London accent. He's spent a great deal of time in both regions, really. For the record, he was born in Kent, IIRC.

I only hope that what Victoria says about his drinking has merit; it'd be a sad day to lose Shane McGowan.

Actually shane was born in oxford, but grew up in tipperary, where both his parents where from and where he now lives most of the time. He has lived in england about half his life but is a lifelong irish citizen.

However this song is hardly him at his best.
