  • Definite toe link failure , its happened to me , not nice at all!

  • Im thinkin just couldn’t drive a greased stick up a pigs ass! If you had a suspension failure wouldn’t you try to slow down? I see no brake lights only acceleration! Fail

  • @husto88 You do have a point.

  • Well at least he hit the pillow barriers.....

  • LIFT

  • [00:10] shoulda backed off the throttle !

  • He almost had that too. Pretty good job in that Elise even though he didn't save it.

  • LOL A WANNABE RACER...GOOGLE THIS "DRIFT FOR DUMMIES" AND U WILL DO A FEW LAPS MORE...

  • Passenger- "Just keep your foot in it... It will straighten out in a sec..."

  • ran out of talent on that one.

  • Looks like the notorious tie-rod endlink issue.

  • @604Yarks looks like he can't handle that.. I run often in that circuit, and there are a lot of dumb people.

  • i bet you arms and elbows were flying all over the place in the elise.

  • Quello è un errore di guida, altro che problema alle sospensioni.

  • Sometimes, when yer a no skills driver, you have to cease to "race" and take a little time out to get the fucking car headed in the right direction. Lettin yourself get into a tank slapper on a goddamn straight is just unforgivable, Jesus, what a blunder. We had a couple SCCA boys show up to run stock cars and they learned a lot real quick, like it's lots harder then they thought and how to run in the back and stay out of the way.

  • it'll buff right out

  • Comment removed

  • I hope the driver was okay.

  • @Gollsodia of chorse he hit super squishy wall te damage may have even been able to buff out at that speed

  • @makoshark40 Oh, thanks, I didn't know that.

  • @Gollsodia yep np im shure he lost the mirror though

  • Inner toe link end failure. There's no way anyone could drive this badly. He would not have made it out of the dealership without waffling it up. For those who don't know. Rear toe link end fatigues and breaks. Rear wheel goes toe-in, toe-out, toe-in, toe-out depending on suspension loads. This vid could be the poster for it. Or.... quite possibly a snake in the car.

  • @Dyn0Don I think he tried to make the car slide on the corner exit, but he lost it.

  • WOW....why slam on brakes and become a rubber necker???? and ON A TRACK??? Now, YOU are the hazard b/c the Lotus is off track right.

  • i dont get how the lotus was sooo oversteery, cos watching topgear they never have cornering problems like this

  • @F1Mad93 oversteers under deceleration, the instinct when losing control is usually to hit the brakes, which this guy did....when he shoulda hit the gas.

  • @gnolhsobners if u looked at the video u will notice he didnt HIT the brakes until he was well and truely out of control. have u ever been on a race track or u just an arm chair expert and dont know fuck? hitting the gas in that fucking situation wouldn't have made a difference he had already lost control of the car. he got into a tank slapper because he is over correcting and then trying to counter steer too violently. He needed smaller steering input and ease on the gas to restablish grip.

  • @gnolhsobners and secondly when he approached the first corner he was already sliding the back and had very little traction.. when he approached the second corner.. he approached it too fast and lifted off the throttle which resulted in the car swinging out of control. That is called LIFT off oversteer. you've got NO FUCKING IDEA NONE WHAT SO EVER.

  • @robbyjai You do realize that is what I said right!!! why the hostility redneck? If only rednecks could read.

Re read my original statement, "He likely went off throttle when he started getting sideways, deweighting the rear, and thus the crash....stay on the throttle, just countersteer....... "

and no he shouldn't have eased on the gas, he should have STAYED ON THE GAS. I have a fucking elise, when my tail slides i leave my right foot in place and fucking countersteer.

  • @robbyjai "secondly" any deceleration de weights the rear, but yeah he didn't hit the brakes until later, doesnt matter though.......the driver didn't take the corners too fast, he just sucked at driving.........the mazda gained on the elise in the corners and got dusted in the straights........that is usually the opposite of what should happen.

  • If you watch this whole video you see the elise driver almost crashing on most corners....... the elise pulls away from the mx on the straights and the mx driver outhandles the elise driver................just a really bad driver

He likely went off throttle when he started getting sideways, deweighting the rear, and thus the crash....stay on the throttle, just countersteer.......

  • tank slapper

  • @valver86 definitely. I hate tank slappers.

  • Speed wobbles in a car??

  • simply.... pendulum effect

  • It looked like he was going to try slalom drifting down the straight. I'm not convinced there was a suspension failure.

  • possible suspension failure?

    more like possible shit driver.

    GO THE MX

  • There's a longer version of this and watching the longer one makes me think it's more likely to be Driver failiure.

He starts of Ok but he gets worse and worse, most likely because he's embarressed that a guy in an MX5 is able to go quicker than him and doesn't want him to pass.

Watch "Varano Mx5 Sport vs Lotus elise and crash" Posted by gasgas1953romeitaly to see the full version and make up your own mind.

  • @Goldsack sorry but no where in that video was the mx5 likely to overtake the elise? when there was no trafic holding him up he was ages away ?

  • Toe link failure on the Elise caused the crash.

  • That elise using slick tyre?

  • "Possible suspension failure"? HA! More like "definite driver failure. The Elise is a fantastic car, truly, but they require more talent to drive fast than the Miata. Factor in the huge rubber Miatas can run (Elise need more fender!), and it makes them tough to outrun on tight technical courses like these.

  • @ niknickiboy23

    He didn't stop, DUMBASS!! Lol

  • Whoops!!!

  • just seems to make sense...

  • ur absolutely right. in a mid engined or rear engined cars (esp. rear wheel drives), it is absolutely counter intuitive when it comes to hard cornering. For example, say you were entering a corner too fast and ur heading toward a crash zone, if ur driving a rear wheel drive and if ur car has more weight in the back than in front, u'd have to push harder and steer less in order to keep ur car out of the crash zone. I'm not a professional driver so I wouldn't swear on it or anything, but it

  • I agree with op31, lack of driver skill caused this crash, perhaps he should go back to front wheel drive so he can't hurt himself

  • Miata mx5 said "see ya!!!!!"

  • @MrStangGTCS

youre dumb dude. "he said see ya" right he said see ya when he stopped right.. dumbass..

  • there goes $70,000

  • the driver simply over corrected the first over steer.

  • Haha look at the face of the mazda driver right after the crash, you can see him thinking: Should I stop?, a screw him I'm winning this race.. xD

  • he likes drifting lol!!

  • the sanme thing happend to me on the ice, while driving my accord and I didnt crashed, I steered the car into control again, but i was scared as shit tho doing 40 mph without control its fdup!

  • I don't know why the elise didn't just let go of the throttle once he caught the initial oversteer...

  • I think he should have slowed down in stead of trying to control it

  • @bamboali to gain control, you have to slowdown and steer to control, but like this dude did, controling+accelerating=crash, whereas controling+slowingdown=gain control

  • @TCreatorO not necessarily. in real wheel drive cars, if you can always turn ur tail by accelerating, getting yourself out of much trouble.

  • @chickenpax1 but on ice, if you accelerate just a bit more than what you need it, it can end-up in over-steer and crashing anyway

  • @chickenpax1 like if you see the video carefully, he ended up on the wall bc of over steer, rear wheel lost control and it swing out of control

  • @chickenpax1 actually no... this is a big misconception with vehicle dynamics because honestly it is very counter intuitive. If you are trying to turn "more" you get out of the gas (weight to front) or reduce steering angle (if understeering). Especially in a mid engined car like the elise you would actually get on the thottle more to transfer weight to the back, making you "turn less". The crash here looked like a combination of poor steering correction coupled with trailing throttle oversteer.

  • Dynamic Stability Control problem!? It doesn't even have DSC. Hell, the Elise doesn't even have power steering! (look it up yourself) Please do your research before you comment. Thanks.

  • @87XJBRM some of them have DSC it was designed for the gt3 lotus but also in the lotus 240 or 60

  • @87XJBRM right thur is why i like fwd cars, i love all cars, not makin fun of any cars, just a front wheele drive coulda pulled outta that

  • @87XJBRM i think i had heard that they only have ABS.

  • That was a lot of time to end up hitting the wall still.

  • i like how ppl try to tell what the cause was as if their god... as far as i know the driver couldve done that on purpose because he hated his life and wanted to die.... so your all wrong

  • It was the DSC that caused it, Stability Control, watch closesly, He is BARELY Countersteering, not enough for that, and it Still shifts to the other side, its the car trying to control itself and locking the driver out which caused it

  • @Ayperos93 false. research the elise/exige. these cars dont even have power steering, why would they have stability control? there are no aids in this car.

  • Oh man that was horrible

  • MX5 for the win!!! Nah seriously the elise is quicker, just more difficult to push hard.

  • @dustziggy "MX5 for the win!!! Nah seriously the elise is quicker, just more difficult to push hard." Not exactly true. It's only more difficult to push hard in the sense that it would be going much faster. At the same speed the Lotus is easier to drive because of light weight and superior suspension.

  • @wd4000000 Apparently not, looking at the video LOL

  • @dustziggy Oh I forgot. There are absolutely no videos of Mazdas crashing. And why does everybody have to "laugh out loud" when they're home alone and on the computer.

  • @wd4000000 What are you on about? haha. "Everybody" can say what they want, who do you think you are Mr communista, stop getting so upset. Your very defensive about the Lotus, Is anyone allowed to have a different opinion or do we all have to agree with you? This video is just a bit of fun, who cares which car is better. I'm sure there are plenty of mazda's crashing also.

  • @dustziggy What am I on about??? You came into a Lotus video and started talking about how great your cookie cutter Miata was. I don't know how that makes me a Communist but I do know how it makes you a major douchebag. Enjoy the Miata. My Aunt loves hers. In fact I think it's the choice of sporty Aunts everywhere. Later, jerkoff. Don't forget to laugh out loud.

  • Dude just got greedy after he spun the rears on exit. He hadn't fully gotten it corrected but kept gasing up. Overconfidence is a bitch. Very common, no suspension failure.

  • Lotus Elises and Exiges have a known problem with rear toe links breaking. If that happens the car becomes very unstable- looks like that's what we're seeing here.

  • Mazda guy was a better driver but the Elise owner didn't want to admit it; he should've yielded instead of try going faster than he was comfortable with.

  • @SlyEvoIX

No body yields to a miata at the track, i know because i have one. no matter how closely you tail at them at the corner they will not wave you by. sometime the corner marshall will flag those moving road block

  • looks like a broken toe link to me!

  • lotus?? isn't that a mazda badge on your steering wheel?

  • @waferthin99 Stupidity, isn't a crime, so you're free to go...

  • @Pichi48 HAHA ! I only jst relised at the end it wasent the car he was watching it :L AHAHA!! cant blame me I'm welsh! :L

  • i dunno looks like he's realy lost control.. i'm wondering what the problem could be. supspension error.. oke reasonable. but.. it just coult be that he could nog regain control due to driver error. who are whe to decide. one thing is for shore.. its a bloody shame.

  • A small dab on the brakes usually stabilizes it

  • lol i like how he keeps going on

  • no driving skills, amateur dont fuck with the cars !

  • ye looks like very bad suspension. looks like shocks is tooo soft right?

  • loser

  • What a shame, Looks like he lost it a bit and started to panic.

If you owned a car worth that much I'm sure you'd panic if you started to do the same.

With such a short wheelbase and high levels of grip I supect it was constantly sliding and gripping.

  • WTF he gained control of the car after all, but the second turn i guess he got over exited and wanted to try more???

  • okay...

  • There is nothing overly wrong with the driving - the car is not braking - brake lights only come on as he approaches the wall. There is however definitely a fault with the car, my guess is the diff failed hence the fishtailing as the wheels get differing amounts of torque.

  • That's what happens when you try too hard to make a low hp car drift.

  • @black98rt low hp car? That's a light car and has a great amount of power coming from that engine! That ain't a low hp car...

  • Comment removed

  • @black98rt you are fucking retarded. keiichi tsuchiya the best drifter in the world does some of his best work with a 180hp corolla moron...

  • @jewbag18 Corolla has all the weight of the engine and trans up front. The Elise has all that weight in the back which gives it a lot better traction and makes it much more difficult to drift. Do I need to explain anything else to you?

  • suspension failure my ass. Crap car - even crappier driver.

  • @levanter1M it is an english car, you should support your brand instead of spitting on them

  • @jamecontent I cant support rubbish - or substandard driving

  • @levanter1M we are awaiting the video of your skills - maybe we have something to learn from -

  • @jamecontent and who the fuck are you to judge - x-box hoodlum?

  • @jamecontent I don't judge, you seem to have an answer for everything so show us your car and your skills or give us information why an elise is a shit - maybe we have something to learn from you

  • @jamecontent its simple - everyone that owns one is a cunt

  • Mazda guy chuckles at the overpriced lotus fail.

  • Foamy blocks are good at soft stops

  • Drifter wannabe? :))

  • Comment removed

  • cocaine is a hell of a drug ....

  • hahah dont konw how to counter steer! mouhahha

  • unlucky great cars

  • wow serious tank slapper there at least they hit some nice padded box things and not concrete!

  • Should have stopped after the first slide and taken a minute to relax!

  • shit happens when you party naked.

  • dam ESP would soulve that so easy

  • ... my god!

  • yes crashes do happen but this guy did a shit job of trying to control the car

  • holy fuck!

  • glad the mazda servived!

  • ouch...

  • to all the people who think crashes don't just happen, then how to you explain the hundreds of nascar, rally, dragster, indy, F1 etc....... crashes that happen every year? I suppose their all bad drivers too?

  • I disagree with the 'crashes happen' comment. The driver lost control from 0:03 onwards. Instead of easing off after this happened, he tried to power through it but violently counter-steered over and over until eventually he was thrown into the barrier. Bad driving.

  • @Dev1ner he also cutted off the throttle...and there's the wall coming!

  • glad i got a 300hp impreza sti, 4wd ftw?

  • @dontjepko for some reason i doubt you have one. Sti's are AWD not 4WD. noob.

  • @bonesdog101 AWD=4WD................... because the car has 4 wheels so 4wd is awd get it? AND NO NOT COUNTING THE SPARE TYRE. not even sure if i have one in it..

  • @dontjepko ACTUALLY 4WD and AWD are in fact different. 4WD is when the engine pushes all 4 whells equally mostly trucks have it. AWD have a differential where the back wheels usually do 60% of the work and the front tires do 40% of the work. Plus trucks that are 4WD can be taken out of 4WD while AWD vehichles are permanently AWD. You obviously know nothing about vehicles.

  • @dontjepko You have runescape videos or some gay shit on your profile. I doubt you own an STI. Prove it and upload a video of you driving it.

  • @grrfsrip Don't have my driverslisence yet.. 'Taking the exam 29th of july.. And yes i might upload some vids of it. no rush in it.. it's been sitting in the garage since 19th of february.. only got pics atm. ofcourse you won't be convinced since it could be anyone's STi.. and why hate on me? i bet you don't even have A car, and defenatly NO STi, since you already spelled it wrong..

  • @dontjepko Okay well I'm sorry I missed one letter. Also I never said I owned one. But you'd lose that bet because I do own a car. Bought it myself. But I'm selling it soon and looking at an Evolution VII I'm most likely going to buy. In addition. I wasn't hating, I was doubting.

  • @dontjepko i bet your mommy and daddy bought it for you too right?

  • @lasersdend15 Correct. 18th birthday present. YES it's 18 where i live -.-"

  • @dontjepko oh and AWD and 4WD is not the same... in case you didnt know. learn something why dont you and i bet you dont even know what makes the AWD on a Subaru so special and why its top of the line.

  • @lasersdend15 If you would have read the comment of bonesdog101 you would have noticed he already explained it. I don't care what it makes so special, or if it's 4WD or AWD. I have a Subaru and i love it, beats most cars out there at trafficlights.. espicially the dumb Vw Golfs with the hardcore.. Most people can only dream of such a car, I got it in the garage. If you don't believe it, i don't really care. So dream on about having a Subaru or get one. Simple as that.

  • @dontjepko im saying you probably dont know what is so great about the subaru's AWD system, if you love them so much why dont your learn something, trust me they are my favorite cars, id laugh if you didnt even know what kind of engine it has.

  • @dontjepko evo much better

  • @dontjepko its 17 where i live

  • @grrfsrip Thats awesome. No car vids, no driving vids, lonely internet game vids only. Wow. Anyone who lives in Subaru World could tell right off he more than likely Doesn't own an STi. Hang around STi drivers, and you'll almost never hear the word Impreza. I have a WRX. A friend of mine, an STi. The only time I have called my car an Impreza is when the police officer asked what the hell kind of car it was. Try either "my soobie" or "my WRX/STi". Pretty sure that goes for any proud Subaru owner.

  • I bet you an elise with a snapped rear toe link, is harder to control than your "450bhp skyline".

  • damn... he almost got it. poor car

  • all the people who call him idiot....you never drove in the race track, you probably dont even own a car! or have a license!...keyboard racers hahaha....

  • wot an idiot driver couldnt control that little slide

  • @junkersbunkers Have you ever tried to hold on to a car with that much power in a slide? try it some time its not easy!

  • @truckereb yes i hav 450 hp skyine its easy his was a litlle slide couldnt even control it he shouldnt be in a car if he cant control it

  • hahaha... ´what a idiot

  • das war einfach ne Lusche ohne irgendeine Ahnung, wie man ein Auto kontrolliert. Gibts hier nur noch Luschenvideos?

  • This cars are hard to control when they get loose at the back couse mid engine. No suspension problem at all.

  • definitely not driver error. After the drift he had the car going straight until it started fish tailing again.

  • PIO!!!

    Pilot induced oscillation!

  • wtf was he playin at he controled the drift then spazes out into the side wot a mupet

  • na der im kamera auto is ja auch blind null riecher... das war doch abzusehen und du gibst noch gas und schlatest....

  • i was thinking of lotus elise myself but finally got a second hand boxter, same money.

    elise. best handling car! lol

  • @intintruder So you think your boxster outhandles? I guess one crash video with no verification is proof positive. Boxster is more lol than Elise. Chicks car for sure.

  • @wd1000

sold it same price as bought and got a much cheaper s2000

  • "possible suspension failure" - I think so too. Doesn't really look like driver error.

  • @LotinElite Like rear toe link. Inner mount breaks sometimes at awkward times.

  • @LotinElite agreed-and like the other video, remember that lotus elise has has a short wheelbase mid engined layout, prone to extreme oversteer of not done correctly...

  • mid-engine car = keep your eyes on the nose cus if you loose it this is what happens... in other words he lost grip on the front end and this makes an illusion that if u keep steering u 'll achive smthing, but when the grip kicks in then u either have super reflections or a crashed car, at these situations expirienced drivers use the heel n tow teqnique= heel on gas (gently) and tow on brake(more gently) in order to loose more traction at the rear than the front... teq mastered by ayriton senna

  • I think you are referring to "heal and TOE"... there is no W in toe mate, and its a technique used to rev-match your downshifts while under breaking to have better acceleration on the exit of a corner... I don't see how that would have helped in this situation at all.

  • Good comment there NateDawg80126, Alroxi is a little confused to say the least:) But, heel and toe does not improve acceleration and is not used for or at corner exit. It is used in the way you explained but as a means of effectively preparing for corner entry. All it is is multi-tasking for smoother and cleaner corner entry.

  • I think he meant left foot braking, to control the delivery of power to the rear wheels.

Powerfull motorbikes use this as well, you use your rear brake on long curves to prevent the violent delivery of horsepower...

This guy didn´t have a suspension problem, he was all over the place and wrecked for loosing control on a healthy car.

  • And there is no a in heel. Heel and toe. Learn it.

  • And i think you mean "HEEL and TOE" Sorry, couldn't resist

  • lol no

  • @Alroxi You made up that whole paragraph didn't you?

  • Steep off the gas, rear tires gain traction too fast and that happens if your aren't skilled enough...

  • Crashes happen, regardless of skill. Don't be so judgmental.
