why why why WHY WHY WHY does every youtube uploader feel the need to add music?!!!! if we found it boring without the music beforehand, we wouldn't be watching the damn video now!!
I love how Ebert acts paradoxically more youthful and energetic opposite of Roeper rather than Siskel.
Siskel and Ebert bicker like an old married couple. Ebert and Roeper are like a son arguing with a critically minded father, only somehow Roeper ended up playing the role of the supposedly mature one.
I hate the message behind Cheaper by the Dozen. "By all means, flood the earth with your spawn. If there's one thing we need more of, it's people." Anybody having that many kids is just selfish.
@blindthrall Thank you! Thank you! Seriously, I hate it when people get all excited about having a baby. Congratulations, you just created another problem for the world to deal with.
all i can think of when i hear gene talk about the patrick stewart dune buggy scene is the similar scene from star trek insurrection. dude loves drivin cars, what can we say
@JackWolfgang When Ebert said the movie "went through his mind and didn't hit anything", Siskel's joke was that Ebert didn't have a brain in the first place for anything to go through.
No matter how strongly Siskel and Ebert disagreed, I always got the impression that they respected and liked each other. Ebert seems irritated by Roeper at times. He needs a stronger foil and Roeper is a bit of a lightweight.
I posted a comment saying Roeper was an idiotic for giving thumbs down on a Robert Altman film, I will admit that comment was harsh, but Roeper makes me mad sometimes mainly because he comes off mean towards Ebert whenever he doesn't agree with his judgement.
So Ebert gave thumbs up to Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and Sahara, and thumbs down to A Clockwork Orange and Edward Scissorhands......
Well, you've still got to respect the man. He does love Dr. Strangelove and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and absolutely hates North and The Master of Disguise.
Ebert is for the most part on the 'right side of the thumb.' I'm sure when he looks back on a lot of the movies he's done (your examples included) he might feel a bit differently.
Kokiri Forrest music, great! Although I would agree on the idea that it shouldn't run through the entire clip. I'm a huge Legend of Zelda fan but I'd rather hear these guy's opinions without a subtle backing muzak.
Well, Altman made several bad films. APHC is one of his very best though. To be fair though, Roeper did say McCabe and Mrs. Miller was one of his favorite films.
Well, I never understood his line of logic. In his zero-star review for "Mad Dog Time", he said it SHOULD be cut up into ukulele picks for the poor. So are ukulele picks good or not, Roger?
Excellent job on these videos. Always get a kick watching the old reviews.
BIG NEWS FOR MANY...just heard about it. Ebert teased about a new movie show in future. He said it will involve Roeper, Michael Phillips, and AP critic Christy Lemire.
They were too hard on American Tail! It's a classic and yes, it is a bit murky, but not all animated movies have to be like flowers and sweets. There has to be some rough movies as well.
whoa easy. I didn't say I hated American Tail or anything. I just thought how they critiqued it was really funny. I haven't seen American Tail in a while so I don't have a full opinion on it either. sorry
I want to thank you for the work it took to put these memories together. The show was a class act and I miss their intelligence, honesty, and fun. I enjoyed them and loved rewatching them . Thank you for this delightful treat.
You should include the review of Return of Swamp Thing in your next one. Ebert gives it thumbs up, and Gene is just sitting there with a hand on his head in disbelief. It's classic.
Roger Ebert is too nice to movies like Garfield 2 or Cheaper By the Dozen 2 or Benjii The Hunted. And recently he gave 4 out of 4 stars to Knocking (starring Nic Cage). What the heck?
She has all the sexual sophistocation of a Hell's Angel in this movie - lol
