  • Thanks for the reply, looks like I am going to have to hack into the oil pan on the suburban quite a bit to get it to clear the 3rd member and didn't know if there was a way around this with keeping the trans in the stock position.

  • I'm working on a swap on a 3/4 ton 4x4 suburban. I'm curious if you had to modify the oil pan to clear the thrid member on the front axle? Also, did you use the stock torque converter? Thanks!

  • @TheSojourner08 It's been a while since we did it, but no, I don't believe we had to. We used the torque converter that came off the original 6.5 turbo diesel. Hope your project turns out well!

  • nice man! i am a diesel man!

  • hey great job on the conversion, i have a 1991 2500 that i would like to convert to a 4bt, what modifications did you make to have to make to the truck to make it work, Is the injection mechanical?

  • Does that say 827,613 miles!?

  • @UncleBubbles94 No, it "only" had 327,613 miles. :)

  • @bubbleboy80 Only, lol.

  • Very nice! I see your alt needs a little RPM to come to life, must be a self exciting alternator...it must be your rpm pickup point as well.Very good looking conversion. Are you using the 4L80E trans that came in the pickup? If so,have you modified the computer so it shifts earlier,as the 3.9 doesnt rev like a 6.5...

  • @JohnDiMartino

Thank you! You're correct, the alternator does need a little RPM at first startup, but after warmup it charges regardless of speed. We are using the original 4L80E albeit with a manual torque converter toggle mounted on the dash for better mpg. Yes on the computer mod as well, it was an easy flash to lower the shift points on the transmission. Best we've ever seen with this rig was 27mpg, though that was nothing but highway miles on a long trip, doing the speed limit.

  • @bubbleboy80 You have to use some sort of adapter kit to mate the Cummins to your Chevy transmission?

  • I'm jealous!!!!!

  • nice rig keep it up.

  • wasn't this one sold on ebay back around august 2010

  • Nice swap. Have you checked the mileage on it yet? Curious to know how well it would do.

  • hey I'm thinking of doing this swap, what be modified on the transmission or what tranny did you use, if you can help me...thanks
