i get the twighlight zone part!!! he "thinks" that the machine is there calling his name and following him, but the slot machine isn't! uh...... sorry for the wasted comment.... that was kind of a dur....
How could he have even FIT his entire savings, in change mind you, into a single slot machine? He never left it, so presumably the managers couldn't ever have a chance to empty it. Wouldn't it at least be too heavy to just tip over like that?
Bad ending. They should have had the coin mysteriously appear in his hand when the paramedics checked him. They shouldn't have ACTUALLY showed the machine roll his last coin out to him, it should have been implied.
I've never understood the appeal of a slot machine.
Poker or Blackjack or Craps I can understand, a game with an interactive element you can change and be skilled at...you can be a good poker player and increase your odds, count cards (and not get caught) at Blackjack, throw the dice well and know how to bet in Craps...
At least it's skill vs. skill, and person vs. person.
Where's the fun in battling a machine, and one you have next to zero chance at besting at that?
It's usually the ones preaching AGAINST something like gambling that are the same ones struggling with their own secret issues. They warn you 'don't gamble, it's just a waste of money', but secretly they play lotto, don't drink-but secretly they have bottles stashed underneath their car seat or in a dresser drawer. They speak against homosexuality, but secretly go to bath houses & engage in acts their wives would divorce them over. *Live and let live. No one is perfect or above temptation.*
nature devised a multitude of weaknesses, foibles, genetic predisposition, whatever you want to call it, in order to "thin the herd". whatever your poison...it's just waiting to come out!
Casinos are not the same anyomore. Once the took away the coins from the Slot Machine it has never been the same. I use love to hear the sound of coins falling when you won.
Have seen many people like Franklin at the casino cranking every penny they have into slot machines. 'If I stick with it long enough it has to payoff" I love this episode.
One of my favorite episodes. Franklin's original objection to gambling was not because he was practical, it was his emotional attitude at the time. When he won and his attitude was compromised he easily crossed over to the dark side. Or the machine really was evil. Either way this scared the b'jeezus out of me as a kid.
@ExplorerDS6789 It may look like you have a better chance with diagonal lines, but it's just the illusion they want you to see. All machines are run by a computer which is precisely programmed to only pay out exactly as much as the casino wants per day. There is no luck involved whatsoever in playing a single machine all day, no matter how the rollers seem to roll. The luck is in finding the right machine at the right time.
I love how the casino employees do absolutely nothing and let the guy crack up. Sure now adays people are cautioned to gamble responsibly, and I guess this is why.
@dudu1245 Now adays it seems the slot machines have a tad more advantage to them. It used to only go straight horizontally, now the lines go diagonally too. Like, if you get a BAR at the bottom of one slot, in the middle of the center one and the top of the other, you can win.
An I got ONE more silver dollar.. but I'm not gonna let em get me no not gonna let them catch the midnight rider...

@dudu1245 Good day
That was Mr. Serlings "moral" in this teleplay.
Gambling was DESIGNED to cause addiction in the player!
I'm $500.00 in!! I need it back to pay to go home....I must win next pull...no the next!! ARRRGHH somebody loan me $10 please...
It was Rod Serlings "Anti-Gambling ad".
He could see the built in addiction factor & was warning his viewers!
