""Santa Baby" by Marilyn Monroe sound-alike Cynthia Basinet is the best version since the song was introduced by Eartha Kitt." (My top Christmas songs, kind of - WCFcourier)
@FlameGirl7271 Happy Holidays! Thanks for your observation. In fact, it took the safety and food in a North African refugee camp for my son and I to finally begin to gain weight away from the stresses of Hollywood. And when I did sing to the Saharwian refugees in the camps, a strong wind did come. But, it didn't blow me away, instead joined all voices. But am always wondering when women here will join all voices? And support each other? ~Cynthia Latest release "The Christmas Song" -iTunes
This sounds uncannily like someone called Marilyn MOON which is on Itunes. But the earliest version of Santa Baby I am aware of is Eartha Kitt. Its possible Marilyn Monroe covered it - but I can't find it!
Original was recorded in 1953 by Eartha Kitt (Crazy lady who tried to band Eddie Murphy in Boomerang) I never knew Marilyn sang it tho. I'll check it out. Madonna also covered.
@sterlingisdabest1 "50 things you probably didn't know about Marilyn Monroe" (From The Mirror UK) Read more: #24) Santa Baby, commonly believed to have been sung by her, was actually recorded by Cynthia Basinet as a Christmas gift for Jack Nicholson.
Santa baby is originally recorded in1953 by Eartha Kitt. Why so many people think this has to do with Marilyn Monroe is simple. Hear the song and it's style. It could have been sung by MM. She has a few other songs in that way. But it's true: she never did sing it.
If you have it on a CD look at the label. Probably a small unknown label and sung by a MM look-a-like.
Well, Cynthia may not have been the first to record this song, but, as far as I'm concerned, she definitely did "the best" version of it. I can see how Cynthia's sexy voice might have made folks want to think this was Marilyn, but come on guys, don't you think Cynthia is cuter anyway? ;-)
@kncool1985 - Yeah its actually not Marilyn, you can find that info online anywhere. It is a 'legend' really that marilyn sang this. However your right she was dead long before 97, you wont find the 'marilyn monroe' version before 97 because the version going around as marilyn is cynthia. Marilyn never recorded this song ever, you can find it on wikipedia as well.
1997? Marilyn Monroe would have recorded it a long time before 1997. This does not sound anything like the recording I have and a friend of mine bought me a c.d of marilyn with this song on it. I don't see how this coud be mistaken as Marilyn. This girl does have a beautiful voice but Marilyn's is unmistakable to me atleast.
this is not an original recording...eartha kitt did it originally back in the 60's, she has a very sultry voice, which is why people mistake it for marilyn.
by the way, just someone who does not know Marilyns voice could think that she sang this song......This Version is really goooood but Eartha is the real cat.
WOW! If Marlyn didnt sing his song, then Miss Basinet did it so well she sounded like Marlyn. I wonder if she sings songs of Marlyn Monroe. She must sound great. I know for sure that Eartha Kitt was the original of this song. Basinet made justice to this song. Eartha was really great too.
not really. they're two completely different sounds... Eartha's version, in my opinion, sounds nerdy and annoying. But... if that's what you like more power to ya
she does sound beautiful. but eartha kitt has that cat-like unique yummy sound. may she rest in peace. truly gifted and before her time back in the day
Eartha Kitt was the original who sang this song, not Cynthia Basine. Or do you mean it was Cynthia Basine's voice that was dubbed onto Marilyn Monroe singing it?
Marilyn Monroe has NEVER sung this song. This version was recorded by Cynthia Basinet and when it started to get downloaded through sharing programs it was mislabeled and so now everyone thinks it was Monroe
Yes I had one as well. My best friend gave it to me. It got lost in the move (moved from south to north) dangit and now I am unable to find another. Rare c.d. I had bought her a Judy Garland c.d. that year as well. Both rare c.d.'s. I was told that Santa Baby was written for Marilyn as well.
Very funny story. Just to clarify "Santa Baby" has nothing to do with Marilyn. She never recorded it. It was never intended for her. Instead it was popularized by Eartha Kitt. Copies with Marilyn Monroe are illegal copies that have been mislabeled.
@ohsosolarpowered Do you know where i could find marilyn monroe's version. The one on youtube was removed... i always found her version to be the best;)
yes, ohsosolarpowered it's because there is no MARILYN MONROE. It's CYNTHIA BASINET. If Marilyn would have sung it BELIEVE me it would be everywhere for sale. The copy you are referrencing is an illegal download in which the artist was never paid.
She actually sounds nothing like Marilyn Monroe, just as Ertha Kitt sounds nothing like Monroe. Where did the myth of a Marilyn version start? I've never heard the song attributed to her. *shrug*
This is the story of this "Santa Baby"... there is no need to compare voices or the added negative...
it is due to illegal file sharing since 2000. Am sure as a fellow artist, you can imagine what it feels like to have music you recorded, financed, and distributed attributed to someone else...
even if you, mezzosoprano97 have never heard such.
Yeaaa ummm whoever this person is, she sings it, but it was originally Marilyn Monroe. I'm sorry that you guys are jealous of Marilyn Monroe and try to take things away from her but you need to realize.......It was and will always be Marilyn Monroe.
Marilyn Monroe never song it though, I honestly don't understand why everybody thinks she did. But anyway, Cynthia has a lovely smooth voice. =) She sings it best, and heck, you can't beat an original.
Well, compared to Ashley or Nicole, she rocks. And not compared, she still ROCKS. It's sultry and sexy, without all the breathiness or high-pitched yap of Kylie. And yeah, Eartha is good. But, and I say this as a kitt-fan --Santa baby is not eartha's best song, it really does nothing for that voice she has (awesome though anyway)
