In the beginning of the opening , MTM is all over the road in that white mustang on the highway proving women are worse drivers than men.....i mean really. LOL
the older shows had a way about getting you to care & like the characters so, they become etched into your memory & soul. You feel for mary as she leaves her safe, secure home to try & make it in a new & larger city where ,she knows noone (been there, done that) There she is scared & timidly driving into big ole minneapolis.I wonder if she made it!
i have been playing this over and over and this is how i feel. we have lost respect for ourselves in many ways physically as well as mentally. it is reflected in the media .bad behavior has become acceptable and rewarded without rules or borders.its a shame the kinder gentleness in these shows is now skoffed at i mourn for what we have lost i guess innocence has been replaced with ignorance
I would really like to hear the full length recording of this first season version. Terrific vibe and arrangement, nifty instrumentation and better vocal too!
Oh, this brings back wonderful memories. Thanks for posting. They don't make TV like this anymore; it's all "reality" crap. Where did the world go wrong?
@russbear31 Mary sort of predicted this when she was on I think the Rosie show. She said she was worried about all these game shows that were coming on at the time & how it would lead to less scripted shows. I think they were talking about Millionaire then.
@supergrrly - Could that be the reason that the Season 1 theme says, "You might just make it after all" (along with a different vibe asking if MTM can actually make it) while the remaining seasons say "You're gonna make it after all"?
Where did things go wrong, and why don't they make shows like this anymore?
Simple. People were tired of well-written shows because they reflect on their own life and realize what a sham it is, and how low their character is compared to those on TV. TV was no longer about seeing the world through another's eyes or following a story line. It was about making TV reflect their own unhappy lives and flaws. Enter the reality show and the banality that followed.
Gotta love Mary.. She was one of my first crushes as a kid watching the reruns on nick at nite back in the mid 90s. She set the standard for what a beautiful, classy woman should be.
For some reason I liked the instruments on this version more than I do the other MTM intros.

Whatever happened to great quality shows like this? Too bad they seem to live now only on DVD.

@Trompetteenchamade - TheDudester must be from NY or NJ. Drivers in those two states have no concept of what a blinker is used for.

Shows like this required an attention span. Today's show plots can be followed by goldfish.
