Interesting too how they don't have an epidemic of teen drinking like we seem to have in the USA. I think it's society and peer pressure that keeps them in line.
@tylerwalker2 yeah, if you see on the very bottom right of the vending machine, there's a smaller glass of something, that's basically your 200 yen sake, poor mans sake, or homeless mans sake, haha, whatever suits you. I'm not a sake drinker, but I don't think that kind is really recommended, who knows though, I can't be the judge of that. =)
I think this makes pretty good sense, the whole beer vending machine without ID. Most teens only try drinking or drink because it's something they aren't supposed to do and it's supposedly the cool thing to do at parties etc.
It's reverse psychology, tell people they can't do something and the more they want to do it.
Teens are rebellious by nature it's a stepping stone to becoming an adults, You tell them no they say yes, you say yes they say no.
Funny, you don't really see too many of the beer vending machines anymore. I mostly only see them in hotels/hostels. However, I will say that I've met far too many teens in bars, and no one gave a shit. Neither did I, I was just a little surprised when I first met said people.
Oh the beer and cigarette vending machines have been around for years. I do like that you noticed the age check on the cigarette machine but not on the beer machine. Heh.
I remember when I was in Japan, I laughed because the only people I would see drinking in public were the foreigners who were so excited that you COULD drink in public! I think it's one of those things that if you grow up having access to something, you don't care as much. Where as in N. America drinking is baaaad before a certain age so we go crazy once we can do it!! :) Thanks for sharing, keep the videos coming!!
I do enjoy the privilege of being able to drink in public without fines. But I must disagree about Japanese people not drinking often in public. Trains always have guys drinking beer, and I often see guys drinking a one cup in the morning. Also if you ever go to yoyogi park on Sunday you will see hundreds of Japanese people drunk in public.
I think it does make sense. I would rather see kids drink a beer or two than smoke. If it became a problem with under-age drinking then I would impose a no under 20 rule.
... Beer any child can get and run into the street smashed off his ass, but >.> He may become a problem if he takes a cig. lol -I've seen the machines before gotta love'em though.
awesome lol! I'll be using those a lot! Reasonable price on the beers, amazing price on the cigs. Love how you need id to smoke but not to get bombed. Good stuff! and it makes no sense.
yeah, it's way convenient, and if I was a teen I know it'd be trouble. I just saw some teens get busted with cigs at the station the other day too, kind of funny, like it was really that big of a deal, haha. the cops confiscated their cigs
Dam the U.S. need to get those things

I've heard of some shopkeepers that have a taspo card attached to the cig vending machine. Can anyone confirm this?

As for the Japanese, buying the cigarette in the vending machine of the cigarette to need the identification card has decreased.
It is from menndoukusai when saying in Japanese. Menndoukusai is a thing of burdensome .
When menndoukusai is restated in a modern word, it is uzai.

beer vending machines are much older than tobacco's. some beer vending machines have that new feature installed though.

Since when does anything in Japan make sense by American standards. I mean Gojira attacks Tokyo every couple of years but people keep moving there.
usaverageguy 2 years ago
yeah, I just thought it was funny that tobacco requires an ID but not Alcohol

there was one right outside my house when i stayed in japan.
i wonder what underage kids are like with it though, i mean it mustn't be a problem if they are all over the place.
i could never imagine something like that in australia.

Yeah it's true what you say. I think the funny part was really just how excited the foreigners are to drink in public since we can't. :P haha.
