I'm writing part of my thesis right now while listening to this. can't help it but stop and close my eyes just to listen. I don't mind stalling for good music.

BTW, if a blind man were to listen to this, he wouldn't care if the pianist is russian, or chinese, or a guy who grew up in the slums, and not even if he's the president of the US. good music is a language of the heart. last time I checked, even president marcos had one.

this composer is so great with music. he didnt just compose keyboard music, he helped with sacred choral stuff and has composed marvelously dissonant pieces with chamber orchestras and so forth. splendid recital i have to say! he has the feel of the piece! thats one of the most important things to do while reciting! xD

Great rendition of Rachmaninov son 1, I must say. Fabulous even. Very honest, slavic and felt-through. The second sonate is also quite good, on the same level of MA Hamelin, but I cannot help but feeling that all versions I heard -and that's a lot- pale to Horowitz 1967 recital, available at Sony Classical.

The fact that the video is so long is even more impressive. He's doing all of this by memory, and to be able to memorize these pieces is no easy task.  I'm sure he spent a good amount of time practicing.

I'm curious about the intent of your post, it seems to put down Russia in some way. Seems pretty ignorant to me, with the factual inaccuracies. Ok surely there's nothing outright wrong, Russia is largely white to the west of the urals, what's your point? I am listening to the Tchaikowski and there is rubato on every phrase. When the phrases are similar, this creates monotony. Rubato is a seasoning, not the main course, even in this music. Also to consider: Like my old piano teacher Crowder used to say when I tried to force Tchaikowski piano solos from the Seasons, etc on him, that "why do you want to play this? If all you had to go on with him were his solos, nobody would have ever heard of him."
