#4 bobby or scored the 4th goal in the 4th game in the 4th period of at the 40 second mark to win the bruins their 4th stanley cup in his 4th year in the league
Fantastic!!! I remember May 10. 1970 as though it was yesterday!! I was 13 years old watching this in the rec room with my Mom, Dad and brothers!!......and just a side note...Dan Kelly had the best play by play voice in history!!
In that playoff season the Bruins had a great game 4 with the Blackhawks - even thought hey swept them it was a competitive series - and Johnnie MacKenzie had a huge goal. Kelly called that game and it was a classic.
@deepthreat That's right, Pie scored the gamewinner with about 5 minutes left that Sunday afternoon vs Chicago, 5-4. Didn't you just KNOW the Cup was won at that moment?
There have been numerous overtime goals to win the Stanley Cup, but, nothing will ever equal Bobby Orr's winner in May 1970 at the Boston Garden vs St Louis Blues.
Orr was as swift skater, but I didn't know he could "fly". The snapshot of him in the air, after scoring the league-championship-overtime-goal is the stuff of legend.
I was six years old when that game was played. I still remember watching the games with my parents, and grandmother. What a great time to be a kid growing up in Boston
One of the greatest Sports moments ever. Right up there with the 1980 Olympic team win over the Soviets. Of course, I was 11 and change and watching this on TV 12 miles from the Gahden at the time, so I'm biased :)
God bless Bobby Orr, a class act all the way. (Orr turned 60 a few days ago - WTF? Where did all the time go? Happy Birthday, Mr. Orr.)
What a beautiful call by Dan Kelly. Bobby Orr's goal looked easy but watch as he looks at the net and picks his spot before shooting, not once looking down at the puck. Bobby Orr will always be the greatest player of all time.
This is the original CBS-TV broadcast [you can see on one of the graphics] ... a still cameraman got the famed shot of Orr flying through the air ... something seen from a distance by the video guys ... there were so-called "portable" cameras back then but they weren't used in the corners as they are now ...
I was six years old when the Bruins won it all in 1970 and eight when they did it again in 1972. I figured they'd win a lot more Stanley Cups. Oh well, I guess I'll have to keep watching this clip instead.
Unfortunately, this clip is all that's left of the game. Back in those days Channel 38 was low budget and recorded over the tapes. Only highlights remain of those games. There are a few CBC games floating around.
I bet very few hockey fans could name all five skaters the Bruins had on the ice when this goal was scored: Bobby Orr, Don Awrey, Derek Sanderson, Ed Westfall and Wayne Carleton.
Orr's give-and-go play with Derek Sanderson- the most famous Stanley Cup winning goal of all time!
Another example of Bobby's class was when he brought Ted Green (still recovering from being injured by Wayne Maki) out onto the ice. The Bruins gathered around Green and they celebrated the Cup victory together.
The Montreal Canadiens are my team; but number 4 is still my player.
Bobby, after all these years and in the hearts of all of us hockey fans, you are forever frozen in mid-air. This goal, along with the ones by Henderson (THE goal that saved Canada), Sittler ('76 Canada Cup), and Lafleur ('79 semi-final) were the goals of the decade.
Dan Kelly's call is as immortal as the goal itself.

And let's remember that Dan Kelly was St. Louis' announcer. He wasn't a "homer" like other hockey broadcasters.
