  • it would be more helpful to see the front

  • @wodoonky Yeah I know eh, but that is one of my to things on this channel but and it was a cheap digi camera that I used for this, since then I have a HD camera but work has kept me busy over the last year I'd be luck to get out one video a week. nevertheless thanks for the comment.

  • My ps3 is a fatty 120gb and it was so different on the inside, this helped a lot though

  • @JuanchoMan7 Yeah I never got around in making the other videos show the different models, the "Newer" 40GB and 80GB has a different layout on the inside then there is from the older 20, 40, 60, and 80GB PS3s. Of all of my years of doing this I have yet to see the 120GBs like what you have. Anyways Thanks for the comment and I'm glad that this has helped.

    Cheers :)

  • im havin trouble getin the mother board off the heat sync.. all screws are out it is just stuck by th HDMI port

  • @cizcore That's the thermal compound acting like glue. don't pry them apart cause U run the risk of damaging the mother board. what U need to do is warm up the heat sync up by using a hair dryer on high apply the heat on the side where the fan is, remove the fan first so that you could apply the head better to the heat sync blocks. U could also use a heat gun and they could be found at your local hardware store but set that to low because your only looking to warm up the thermal conpound

  • If you "can't" get a torx driver you can take a small flathead screwdriver and slide it between the cover and the main body and use it to snap the connection that the torx screw is holding.

  • @Dmtiri88 Thanks for that, yeah that's what I had to do in this video. Since then I now have all the tools I need. Just haven't really done anyother videos on tutorials like this in a while but right now I'm working on some other new videos...

  • Sweet here comes a freeking gold ps3! B)

  • What do I do if my games and blu-ray are not playin and I've already reset my ps3?

  • thanks for the video, now i have to play it backwards to put it back together XD

  • @DonDonAlmighty No prob, there is a video for that too :) Just watch it to the end for the link...

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey thanks dude =)

  • hey can somebody make a video on how to open that part in 0:18 left to where you put the disc

  • @david34441 Why, it's pretty straight ford, all you need is a security torx 8 screw driver, a few ps3 models won't have the security torx 8 screw and just be a torx 8 screw. Trust me if you google it you'll find and on ebay too.

  • @david34441 I had to look at your question again and you said the Left side right?. Well it's the right side where the Blu-rays go in 0:18 and on the left is there the Hard Drive is. Swaping out the Drive is one of the most easiest things to do to a Fat PS3. A PS3 slim on the other hand has a different design, the Drive is located right under the Blu-Ray drive.

  • Terrible Tutorial! Why is it so hard to adjust the camera to actually see what your doing? Or even point out what exactly your doing. USELESS VIDEO very few ppl actually

  • @bombermanlbc Holy shit, really!? why trollen' then? I mean like this is not rocket science yo, anyone would disassemble now a days with the right know how. Just look over here---------->

a lot of other great videos to choose from

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey

Obviously you have no idea of electronics. That´s the first thing you learn in school, you should always be grounded when working on sensitive electronics like this and every company does.

  • @Seibertnr90 The PS3 and 360 are not that sensitive at all you trolling fuck. Like I said, I have not had one return of a PS3 or 360 due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) BUT if anything I think you just trolln and mad cause I got like over 47,000 views and you got like what 2,000 with only 3 subscribers and I'm up to 59. You sure you want to do this cause I could troll too, yo.

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey I´m sorry i don´t define myself by how many youtube videos i put up...

I didn´t want to offend you, I´m just saying SYCOhangingFaces comment isn´t too bad because it CAN happen and it´s a cheap safety option to just ground yourself. And like I said, most companies working and repairing computer hardware use a grounding strap...

  • Playboyz lmao anyways nice Disassembly i watched only cuz i was curios what are the guts of a ps 3

  • ohm and i thought microsoft were up tight about opeing things this looks so stresful -_-

  • Hey, how do i take out the security screw ? The security screw has a dot at the middle so it makes it impossible for me to put in either flat screw or star screw! please answer quick so i can get my ps3 fixed :) thanks in advance

  • @The1llness You need a torx screwdriver and that dot you see is a pin so you need to make sure you get the right torx screwdriver...

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey i found that little pin/nipple like bit in the middle of the tamperproof torx screw is really fragile so i place the tip of a phillips screwdriver on top of it and tapped the end of the screwdriver lightly it just snapped right off allowing me to use a normal t10 head :D hope this helps in the future

  • Hey Mr. Guru what bit did you use for the power screwdriver?

  • @TheRemorse Phillips and it's DeCrypedMonkey, PS3GuruMonkey is just the Channels name...

  • Did your PS3 still work after all this??

  • @CaRBoNWaRPeD Of course it did, this is just a simple Tutorial on how to take it a part. But thanks for the comment :)

  • thx dude

  • @hexenizm No Prob :)

  • WTH is less hard than the wii...

  • @uagniza You got that right, but it don't mean that I'll be doing one, I just have to get a hold of a old Wii, not going to do my wife's She'll have me by my balls...

  • Thanks, good video and clear instructions, a dvd of you showing instructions should replace all instruction manuals(incase they haven't got internet) =P

I've opened up a 360 to try and fix you know what, and I have to say even though the PS3 looks a bit 'fussy' it's very well designed, no wonder why so little PS3's fail compared to the shitboxes(old 360's).

  • I am getting quite frustrated with the green and yellow wire where does that dang thing connect and, awesome screwdriver.

  • I am guessing this problem has been addressed, but I have a fat ps3 60 GB. I followed your vid (excellent job man!) so I could clean the guy, put it back together and presto! My wireless wont work. No wireless controller, no wifi. So I order a new wireless assembly, figuring I would start with hardware. Install seemed to be alright, but no response. So I am thinking that is is not the card, but a connection in between. Any ideas, or anybody who has done the same thing?

  • @EphemeralDevil Yeah it's most like the connections between the Mother Board to the Blue Tooth/WiFi board. There is a little brown clip that you need to push down on the mother board and the same for the Blue Tooth/WiFi board.

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey awesome, my wireless is working perfectly now.

So my BD has not been ablt to accept discs since I cleaned it. It accepts discs, then th e blue light flashes and ejects my disc, and stays "ejecting" for some five seconds. Is this an alignment problem like the others? I ask since I havent found a vid or forum with someone having this exact issue with their BD (that or I havent looked hard enough). Any ideas?

  • @EphemeralDevil alignment? not likely, there is a chance that you might have disconnected the optic sensor from the Bluray Board leading into the Bluray Drive it's self. It's that tiny red and black wire with a little yellow plug in tab that connects to another little white tab on the bluray board, this board it right on the bluray drive it's self. just got to know where to look...

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey I checked the optic sensor(yellow and black connection), and it turned out to be intact. I fooled around with the ribbon cable connecting to the motherboard. I put it back together, and I got a disc in smoothly . . . but it wont eject. Actually, according to my PS3 the game I put in does not exist at all (no blue light or nuthin . . .)! I try to eject from sleep but it gives the three beeps, like no disc is present. Should I go into the BD?

  • VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID

  • @GoldMindStudios Dumb fuck, don't you read? It said that this was a 3 year old PS3 so means the warranty has expired by two years. At that time we could do what ever the fuck we want. Damn nOObs....

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey lol I KNOW THAT!!! I was copying the sticker!!! when you remove it, it says void! THINK BEFORE YOU POST A REPLY!!!!!!!!

  • @GoldMindStudios Oh, Okay now I get it but still. I've been troller so many times before I thought that's what you been trying to do. Sorry for jumping the gun. all goods?!

  • Good video, i sub and liked. I just bought the old 80gb ps3. I'm going to upgrade the hardrive, mod it and put a load of shit on it and stuff lol. But applying skins on a ps3 make it overheat? I can't see how it can but just to be sure. Cheers

  • @XxKYFERxX Cool, Thanks. as for adding skins, no it won't make it overheat. but it'd still be a good idea to clean it out time to time...

  • hey man i can only get my hands on antec formula 6 or formula 7. Is that alright to use instead of Artic Silver 5?

  • @thetruejamaican To tell you the truth I don't know, I never heard of antec formula 6 or formula 7 till you brought it up. but me personality what I'd do is just compare the specs between the two. I'll be getting some and do a VS. and see what one would do the best as soon my buddy and I start a new channel. BTW this is Guru but theps3gurumonkey is just a channel name and I go by decrypedmonkey as you could hear at the start of each of my videos. still thanks for your comment

  • Yo Guru, my PS3 Fan is real loud, do you think it's dust? :)

  • @sasuke000naruto It's most likely Dust so yeah. what model is it?

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey As soon as I turn it on it's quiet, then slowly starts going up like in levels of fan speeds, it's the old 80GB model, I have replaced the blueray lense in it though (Before it started the loud fan noise) then about 2 months later it just sounded like a vacuum cleaner or it's about to take off like a plane.

  • @sasuke000naruto Okay it's not just dust. The Thermal compound is also going have to be replaced. so before you do that, make sure you have Arctic Silver 5 or Tuniq TX-4. TX-3 is good too but really hard to work with. all could be found on ebay if your local Radio Shack/The Source don't carry it. let me know how it goes. thanks for your questions

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey Thanks for the advice Guru I'll look into it.

  • @sasuke000naruto same as my ps3 80gb ceche01.. i live in the philippines here is hot and kinda dusty it gets loud after like 5 mina im scared to open it

  • @franzken Yeah but I've opened mine before to replace the blueray laser because it broke on me (I have a video of it on my channel) and when I opened it I cleaned most of the dust away but I guess I didn't clean where all the fan parts are, too scared to open it up that far incase I screw something up, but I think Guru's reply to my 1st comment here was correct but the ways of doing what he suggest I looked into and I don't have the tools to (I could try tho) just scared to break it.

  • @sasuke000naruto when it comes to replacing the blu-ray you need to keep the board that's on the blu-ray drive and remove it, then place that same board on the new Blu-ray drive. if your worried about the dust just have everything on a desk and get some compressed air and be very careful not to lose any parts when dusting. but also be sure not to remove the heat sink from the motherboard other wise just replace the thermal compound too...

  • notice how the ambient noise faded as the words came out" YLOD"!!!

  • @bdogrular Oh Really?!?! When and where?

  • Hey! i got an idea! why dont i flip the ps3 UP SIDE DOWN? YLOD is caused mainly by heat but also because of the gravity, the chip falls now i am thinking...

now let me find a way to play it "DISCLESS" as it will give me trouble with the spinning disc...Ooooo there i remember geohotz now...

one thing missing is a piece of cloth to avoid scratches on the "old" top part

  • @bdogrular You really don't have anything else better to do, do ya? And here I was thinking that Trolling was just for Douche Bags. Man you don't even have any videos up. Fuckn' nOOb....

  • thanks dude i hate sony. ylod sucks

  • @holloboyme Yeah i know. thanks for your comment...

  • @holloboyme Sucks even more now with the downed PSN, but we should be back online by tuesday....i hope

  • 1 persons ps3 blew up lmao

  • so... if i watch u do this and then do it all again in reverse i shud be able to clean my ps3 and then put it back together and it will work perfectly again?? also.. wen u remove the hard drive will u lose n e thing that is saved on the drive? or will all be fine?

  • @yamahamaniac01 There is a link at the lower left of the video at the end taking you to my other video of putting it back together. about the HDD (Hard Disk Drive) no, it'll be fine. You won't lose your saved games and downloads. Thanks for your question :)

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey hey man... i just finished the process and my ps3 was a lot different then yours but i think i have it done right however wen u take that face plate off there a little bracket that the one screws goes into... that fell out and i cant for the life of me figure out what way it goes back in can u help me out??

  • @yamahamaniac01 Watch my other video, there is a link at the end on the lower left side. but yeah it's a little tricky but there are only two hooks that connect the to lower part, slid those two in first and carefully bring down the bracket. sorry, on the other video I didn't show that in detail but I'll do another short video on how to put it back the right way...

  • thx i really needed that answer

  • what trox screwdriver do i use

  • @Hemp679 Torx 10 but it has to be the one with the hole in the center. Thanks for your question...

  • I have a question.. My power (box?) ( the one next to the blu ray thing) is black, and has different types of screw insertions and I always don't know what to do from there please help! Unlike your silver one, mines is black and I already said, it has a different look and I don't wanna screw anything up!!

  • @josedom10 So whats your Question? If it's about mixing up the Screws, you really shouldn't have to worry about that cause those 4 Screws are the only ones that's shape in size. But if you really don't want to get them mixed up, as your taking the power block off, make note of what screw goes where...

  • Lol gay music

  • @Buttworm11 Yeah I'd guess you'd know but what the hell would i know? I just put what ever. for me it's really more about the PS3 and not the choice of music that I choose for the background, so get over your self and troll on someone's else's video that might really give a damn....

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey at around 3:20 when I try to remove the front panel... there is a small metal wire thing connecting the front panel to the chip underneath it. None of the videos I have seen as of yet show this, but if you know, how do you safely remove it? (It connects the front panel to a chip near all the ports in the front labled... CF. SD/miniSD. and Pro. I have the original PS3 got it around 3 years ago, not slim or bundle. please help!

  • @Gam3r979 sorry for taking so like, yeah there is a video that I do have but like all the other videos that i do have they yet need to be edited and uploaded but for some reason my editing software is being an ass so I might have to get some new software but that shouldn't take too long, hopefully. But thank you for your comment and question. the best thing i could tell you right now is just be very careful in removing it and the same when putting it back together....

  • Thanks for the 10,000 hits....

  • Wait, so... if you only want to open up the PS3 to dust it, do you really have to disconnect parts from the motherboard? Can you just pop the whole thing from the bottom part of the case and clean that way?

  • @MrCopyrightViolator Yeah thanks for pointing that out i'm sure that we were all lost on that one but I got news for you, this is a Disassembly video to show you how to take apart your PS3 and there will be links leading to the other videos on how to clean, fix YLOD or LED Mod your PS3. There is no need for me to do anything else for this video...

  • the heatsink is giant

  • thank you that was very helpful !!

i actually downloaded the video xD

  • how did you remove the screw with the different head .the one for the face plate.i have loads of flat heads and none are working.

  • @69Gary69 Okay I replied to your comment, it should be in your facebook.

  • If I open my out of warranty refurbished ps3 to get my game out, would I still be able to send it in for repair?

  • why did you do this?

  • @kikosilva96 To replace your hard drive and all.

  • one of the best videos of taking apart a ps3.

  • @palyons The problem does sound like a YLOD, the bad news is that I still yet have to make a PS3 YLOD fix video but I haven't got any for a while so your best bet to look for another video that has a YLOD PS3 fix. start here (search for this video "how to fix YLOD" use the top one) when I do get to a PS3 YLOD fix video done it'll be better then all of the ones you've seen here on youtube. but thank you for your question...

  • I've got a request. I purchased a used game, had a blockbuster type sticker on the inner ring, was removed by seller prior - glue from it got it stuck in my disc drive, when I removed the disc a 1/3rd inch spring fell out and I am unaware of what it came off of. It doesn't have any hooks just a plan spring. Now it will not load or eject. Possible fix location?

  • @TheColdBore Yes I believe it could be fixed, the spring that came out was the part of the BD Drive is it helps to keep the little door closed to prevent any other disks from being inserted. Anyways I'll have to do a video on that too cause it'll take to long to explane by text so I'll get on that soon as I can.

    Thanks

  • I Cant find a screw driver for the Thing under void. i bought like 3 different sets and none will fit :@:@

  • @MohzZy Oh snap, sorry about that. Anyways it's a torx number 10 screw driver but it has to be the type that has a hole in the tip of it, I just used a medium sized flat head screw driver. i'll get back to you on this later...

  • can anyone tell me the name of the thing that connects the lens cable to the board.also can it be replace becaues mind broke off.

  • Would you have to take out the Blu-Ray and bottom thing that is like it (sorry dont know the name) just to get the back plate off? Thanks,

    Nathan.

  • Thx! Good video!

  • @flaco102352 LOL, type-o Much, "Funny" right. Yeah my wife got me that at a yard sale and there is a baseball team that call themselves "PlayBoyz" here when I live....

  • @DeCrypedMonkey Speak of type-o's *Where I live

  • whats the lifetime of a ps3? I got mine on x-mas 07.

  • @abci23billionmillion You know my eyes got kinda big when I seen your comment so you must be doing something right if it's still in good working order. Anyways I got my PS3 in feb 08 and it crashed in may 09 but that's only because i didn't take care of it and really didn't know much about the PS3 at the time. Now I know more about the PS3 then most people I know, I would have to say a year give of take and if it's not being taken cared for...

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey wow I had no idea! You can tell its old too, because the fan gets really noisy after about 15 minutes of game play.

  • @abci23billionmillion if it's getting noisy like that, there is a good chance that it needs to be cleaned out. it's not too hard to do but if you could wait i'll do another video on how to clean a ps3. i was going to do one a few weeks ago but i forgot...

  • @ThePS3GuruMonkey okay thanks a lot. I really want to get rid of that noise cause its annoying as hell!

  • is this safe??? any risk of YLOD or any other problems??? my PS3 is the launce 20g from japan and its getting very hot iam guessing its full of dust.

  • @Barabapapa123 Nope, this is the best and only true way to clean out your PS3. I haven't done a video on cleaning as of yet but I could do a mock-up of a PS3 cleaning so show how to clean one. Subscribe and you'll know when the video is up...

  • thx a bunch on the tutorial. I just got done opening my ps3 all the way down to the thermal paste and added some artic silver 5. There wasnt a lot of dust really but looks like i just got there in time cause the white thermal paste SONY uses was almost gone! Also they put too much cause it was all over the sides of the heatsink and getting on the motherboard.

  • definately 1 of the better videos out there.

  • Hey thanks for the great video. This helped so much

  • No Prob. but I'm not done, I have one where I put it back together but the video isn't uploading for some reason but I'll keep on trying...

  • I'm editing the video for putting the PS3 back together now and it should be uploaded tonight if not tomorrow and the other videos will be uploaded soon after.

  • Damn I'm good....

    And getting better.....
