That train is on the CSX Rock House Subdivision and there doing a safety stop there I looks like it might be going into the CSX E&BV Subdivision, I work in both as an engineer out of Martin, KY I believe that the train is nere milepost 0VG 280 or 282.0 in hte PAT DTC Block coming of the Pat Wye at Sapphaire.
Hey thanks for the info. I drove through there a million times growing up in Letcher but never paid much attention to the trains. And you're right, it was right at that crossing where the wye is. Thanks for the info.
By the way I've been to Garrett a few times but never to watch trains.
Yeah Letcher County is as far east as you can go. It's on the Virginia border. Now that I live in the central part of the state I see primarily NS, which hauls a variety of stuff, including the autoracks and intermodals I mentioned earlier. I've been through Henderson a few times but it was for work and I didn't have time to hunt trains. Thanks for watching.
Are you sure that some of the coal trains and grains are not by CN? See CN is in the west part of Kentucky too. (ex IC, ICG now P&L lines). They get UP coal trains away from St. Louis and take them to Calvert City or Madisonville, Ky and grain goes to the gulf. If CSX had grain trains I don't see as to where it is coming from. CSX I know has single stack intermodal, I don't understand why since most areas don't have low clearances and L&N daylighted tunnels years ago.
wanna see variety? take a trip to folskton,GA. NO LIE, 60 Trains a day....... CSX double main into florida. 40miles North of Jacksonville. consist includes Amtrak's autotrain and other Silver services.
Nice catch. On the NS Harrisbrug Line, CSX coal sometimes come through off of CSX in Hagerstown, MD. They use those blue CSX gons, LER&C gons, and even Frisco gons. I assume VAPX are Virginia Power Company gons. Just like up here PPLX is Pennsylvania Power and Light Company gons.
90% of CSX trains in Kentucky is nothing but coal trains. The only exception is the CSX LCL Subdivision (old L&N short line) which sees autorack trains. Not much of a variety of trains.
I grew up in Letcher County watching nothing but coal trains. Now that I've moved out, I get tired of seeing autoracks and intermodals on NS, so I go back home to watch the unit trains and look for coal company-owned motive power.
Yeah, I wish I had got to the crossing just a few seconds earlier. At 00:12 you can see a clearing right next to the track that would have offered a better view without the trees interfering. I'll set up there next time.
