@wetwilly1000 Corvette exhausts are valved. Meaning they run on one side of the muffler when idling and the other side when driving. It was meant to quiet the noise level when parked or stopped
i have the same car but with SLP Loudmouth Bullet II mufflers, Exotic Long Tube Headers and it sounds really scary but mine has a 383ci engine not the LT1, try adding a a racing air filter with nice headers then listen to the sound, it will change dramatically not to mention the performance of the car
Lol, thanks. I just put some ZR-1 17x11's on the rear (and 17x9.5 on the fronts) with rubber more than 12" wide. I'll post of video of the new wheels and rear stance soon.
Is the ride stiff? I am just wondering because I heard C4s are too stiff. If the ride kills a lot, then I'll have to pay more for a C5, and I don't want to pay more or buy something else. Please tell me since ur a C4 owner.
I suggest finding a C4 with selective ride control. These systems have a three position dial that you can turn from touring, to sport, to performance. I usually drive around town in sport. On long trip I select touring and for fun - performance. This is a great feature.
I own a 1989 C4 Convertible and yes they are stiff but it is a Corvette! the C5 is very nice also but if you are going to do most the work on the car get the C4. The L98 engine is is easy to work on but lacks the HP in the C5.
im not sure if its just me or im used to my own ridiculously loud exhaust, but that sounds quiet even when you rev, how high did you go? to 4000 or so?
I agree that it doesn't sound insanely loud on the video. However, in actuality it is fairly loud. I had a friend who was about 15 cars behind me in traffic and heard me revving it. In the parking garage at my university, I can set off car alarms if I want to, as can my friend's GTO with a Corsa exhaust. The redline on the L98 is 5,000, but it probably went up to around 6,000 for a second or two. I'm thinking about posting another video with a drive-by and in-car audio.
I believe because I was revving it so high, it was the rev limiter? Or maybe the valves or something of that nature were closing quickly? Maybe the echo of the tubes? Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks for checking out my video.
Well I have never heard it make the sound before. It only made the sound on the video when in Park when I revved really high and then completely let off of the accelerator.
Hey... 1st off Nice clean exhaust under there. I have a hand full of vettes in the garage. I have a 90 zr1 which I put a MaSSive Cam in, then had a fully customized SLP II exhaust system put on. And also added a mountain of other goodies from summit. Car sounds like a million bucks. All depends on what you wanna spend.
Hey, thanks for the comment! I had researched exhausts for the car about a year prior to purchasing the corsa cat-back system. However, the SLP and Borla systems were my runner-up's. If you have any videos of your beastly ZR-1, I'm sure everyone would be excited to see them! Thanks again for your interest.
I think he was referring to CVetteMan1111's comment about putting a massive cam on his own 1990 ZR1. Since seriesoftubes comment, I researched the ZR1 and it does indeed have 4 cams.
The 4 tail pipes in the back. Is the exhaust only coming out of 1 on each side??? Might be wrong, Just curious

Dude on your L98 did u have to get rid of the EGR and the Air pump to put the headers on or did the headers come with the lines for running them...

They aren't bad at all, and Im coming from an Audi. I have an 88 L98, and I think they are comfortable.

I'm not 100% on this, but it could possibly be ur engine back-firing

S'just unburnt fuel combusting in the hot exhausts, happens when you close the throttle rapidly :)
LashoutUK 3 years ago
Thanks for the comment, I guess it's nothing bad then, definitely not back-firing anyways.

You may also get that sound if you remove the cat.
