give me a break...there're 2 groups of 4 teams each...and 2 move on to the next round...so they really needed to score 14 goals to make a difference?...that's why you only see countries with no football (I mean soccer) culture like the US or Australia scoring ridiculous # of goals on weak (amateur) opponents...nobody ever teach them to slow it down after scoring 6, 7 or 8 goals?...So it would be disrespectful to hold back but not to score 14 GOALS!!!

@palolo37 Two words. GOAL DIFFERENTIAL! This a tournament, and I'm sure you have no idea what that means, but the amount of goals you score helps or hurts your standing. It's not just about winning that game but scoring, and I'll reiterate they DID slow do. Missing several goal opportunities. There's only so much you can do to limit yourself before it starts to look ridiculous. "Oh, I have a easy shot, but I'm not going to take it because it's not the nice thing to do." Grown up.

@inusessyfan So...you're saying they're gonna have a tough time next against Guatemala?!...I've been playing football (soccer) my whole life (and in tournaments too)...and believe me if we ever score 6, 7 o 8 goals tops...we just slowed the pace down...and even gave the ball to the other team to see what could they do...poor sportsmanship on the part of the u.s to run up the score like that. That's all.

Not trying to take away from the US team because they did have a fantastic game, but when you score 14 goals that's just disrespectful, control the ball, play defense and limit yourself. My team scored 7 goals in the first half and we just controlled the ball the second half. Again not trying to take any thing away from the US team because they aren't they only ones who do that, but its not even fun watching a team get pounded on

@TobyGTV No disrespect, but you (most likely) aren't playing to qualify for the Olympics, nor are these ladies playing for your entertainment. They're Pro's. It would be disrespectful to the DOM to hold back. No one likes to be treated as weak, and as a team trying to up it's game that would be a slap in the face. I give you that the celebrations were on the edge but understandable. Also I will point out the team did hold clearly hold back, and miss some easy opportunities later in the game.

@TobyGTV It's more disrespectful to play down to a team. When I'm playing against a good team I want to go hard. I've been on both sides of this, and I see no problem. There is no mercy rule here, so it makes sense for them to continue to score. The more goals the US scores, the better chance they have at qualifying. Being the 88th ranked team in the world you have to prepare to lose against big powers.
