@CaptainChaos When I created this video that music had just come out and had not yet been done to death. What you could always do is disable the sound to do this press the button next to the play button on the player that looks like a speaker. I think thats better than conplaining dont you?
@MCHammond No. What would have been better is if the video had an appropriate soundtrack to begin with, so nobody has to turn off the sound. It's just such a shame that otherwise perfectly good YouTube videos have to be continually let down by people slapping on loud, fast, repetitive and annoying songs that are completely unrelated to the subject matter and don't match the tone and pace of the video. Sorry to single you out though, your video is fine, the music was just the last straw...
@NorthVisionChannel i think that mostly depends on what style of animation you like to do. this is pretty reminiscent of classic 2D animation, and I thought it was pretty interesting, though you're right, he should put some sort of limit on the rigging.
Perve, you are all staring lifelessly at a computer screen were some person is wiggling a 3D character's breasts/arse around! Get a life, or get a girlfriend if you want to wiggle some poor girls breasts.
This is really good. I'm using 2.53 now. Blender used to have a button in 2.49 that would flip or mirror keyframes to create a quick walk cycle. It's not there now. Does anyone know how to select the keyframes then flip them instead of placing them in the opposite position manually?

UGGGH!!!! this program is too damn hard!!! i been messing with blender for 4 months and i still cant get it down. 3Ds max is easier but my 30 day trial expired :-(
One of the best Blender rigs I've seen, if not the best! More please, and anything us less talented animators can use on 11 sec club well appreciated!! :) Thanks
Thanks for claearing it up! So the whole key (pun intended) are the keys setup in the IPO channel, moving the object is controlling the animation. Guess it wasn't as simple as adding a bone with a custom shape, and not as difficult as a python script. Thanks again.
Question: I know you say the window to the right (the one with all the boxes and little stars) is just a normal 3D window, with bones set as with a custom shape. Can you give a smaller example or tutorial on how that is done? perhaps with a simple object. Are you putting the boxes/stars in seperate layers?
My friend is convinced your using python to create that since you have python in your "gears" tutorial on vimeo
Its just the normal 3D window set to view the controls that are just bones with a custom shape set as a star object mesh, the text and boxes are just a simple mesh object too.
its the 3D window setup so you can see the controls which are just plane bones with custom object for display and they influence the shape key's via a driver!
Would you be so kind as to tell me what those colored circles and boxed are called that appear around the joints? I seen them in a video on character animation before, where the guy could grab "handles" to move parts, but i cannot find out what they are called, let alone how to use them. If you could tell me what they are called, i could begin finding out how to use them.
Real impressive. The armature, I assume you designed it yourself. For the vertex groups, was the foundation of it's manipulation made from bone heat, and you went in and did some weight altering?
Great Demo! do you have a tutorial on rigging the body for this kind of model? I've been looking for it.

Yeah he can clarify, but read what he said below...
He says: "and they influence the shape key's via a driver"
In other words those objects in that panel use Python :)
FrankRizzo6662 2 years ago
Just to clarify, There is NO Python involved in setting up this rig!
The controls on the right of the screen are using IPO Drivers NOT Python Drivers.
I will try add a Link to the Info you need in this video info, and if I get time tonight I will do some videos :)
MCHammond 2 years ago
I think the panel on the right is a python script

They are just plain bones with a custom object set to be displayed instead of the bone.

Emphimous 2 years ago
The rig was designed so that you need only apply bone heat :P
there are small bones under the arms and around the waist and hips that keep the distortion correct.
Some weight maps were added for the mesh shape keys afterward.
