  • Love it! Can you do a tutorial for the makeup look you used for this video? It's beautiful!

  • Peggy Bundy? (before anyone says thats mean, Peggy bundy is HOT in my book, so dont be mad)

  • Do you remember what hair color you used when you did this video?

  • @jodiemcly1 Medium Auburn, Loreal Preference

  • is that an old fashioned pic of u and ur hub in the back? cute!!

  • @Victorian9322 LOL...no that is my husband's grandparents. :)

  • Will this do work if your hair is naturally curly, or would I get the best results if I hot rolled them?

  • @toria01dan Try it both ways!

  • I found it very funny that i came across your video because im doing my own hair for a photo shot of a musical im in and can you guess what show that it is? Sweet Charity! haha love your video and the music lol

  • @anam0aosta It's fate...tha'ts what it is. ;-)

  • Very Joan-like. Thank you!

  • This is completely doable for me, even with my solid fringe bangs, thank you so much for posting this video! I'll try this tomorrow!

  • How can I do this with very curly hair? Thanks!!

  • @VictorianVlogs I'd keep the curls and try the twists and top volume using your natural hair texture. I love the way that looks. :)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Okay! Thanks so much! I'm going to be Joan for Halloween! :D I'll use this look. Love ya, Ash!

  • what permanent red do you use?

  • @SharolynLovesYouu Then I was using Loreal Preference in Medium Auburn.

  • i just looove your hair color... How do you keap the red?? mine just fades away :( Li, Sweden

  • @lieliasson Don't let it fade. :) Keep coloring it. I do permanant color when my roots start showing and I use a semi permannant red in between, to keep it bright.

  • OK...OK...I'll say it - You are ADORABLE! :)

  • Awesome!

  • HEEELLO :) i was wondering if you could do a hair tutorial on Christina Aguilera from the film BURLESQUE. The one where she sings "Bound to you" and she wears a bright green dress. Its a curly up do if you know which style im on about and If you could do this it would make my day thankyou :)

  • @chloedavies94 thanks for the request! I loved the hair and makeup in that film. :)

  • What do you think about using a curling iron instead of hot rollers? My hair is just resistant to hot rollers. I also don't really have bangs, would you recommend creating a sort of "false bang"?

  • @vegancst You can certainly use a curling iron if you prefer. And sure, just separate a portion of your hair at the front to sweep across your forehead like a bang. :)

  • beautiful!!! amazing!!!

  • I love it! thanks for the video

  • that was really really nice!!!

  • just as you had the perfect color for rachel mcadams as allie hamilton, your color goes even BETTER for christina hendricks as joan!!

  • Thank you for showing the back! All the other tutorials never show what the back looks like and I think that's very important. Great job!

  • you look like peggy bundy with your hair loose.

but amazing tutorial. you really achieved that joan look!

  • wow. I really need this right now. I need everything about early 60's Broadway styles. Thank you! BTW, what is the title of the song? thanks

  • Thank you so much!! It is a gorgeous color on you. I watched your videos last night and I dye my hair red and I am not happy with the red lately. I am going to try the Manic Panic in Vampire Red.

  • What color is you hair in this video.

  • @kinjyo77 I use Loreal Preference in medium auburn.

  • I will try this for new years. Gorgerous !!!

  • I hate my hair when i wear buns.

But your just looks so chic that i just have to try this!((:

    Thanks for convincing me lol(;

  • There is NOTHING grandma about this look! It's sexy and classy.

I LOVE this look on you!

  • This is a great look! TFS

  • @DoctorFunyun You are entitled to your opinion but we AND OUR MEN disagree. ;-) Ladies of the past looked like ladies and that is not something that can be said of most women today. So *ugh* all you want. We'll keep doing our thing.

  • @LisaFreemontStreet BRAVO!!!!!

  • @DoctorFunyun ummm cuz our grannies actually looked foxy every day...

If you don't like it thats fine, but then, why are you, as a presumably male youtuber, looking up retro hair tutorials?

    Hmmmmm.

  • @DoctorFunyun its not granny looking at all, but when our grannies were in the 60s wearing this theyd be considered sexy! and when you look like christina hendricks its ESPECIALLY sexy. people who are old enough to be grannies dont wear their hair like this anymore... they wore it like this in their prime. as they get older, its harder to achieve a style like this. so :P on you.

  • Thanks a lot I've been usein' this look for the past few days. It has been perfect because it's been too darn hot out here in Los Angeles. :P Thanks again.

  • You make it look so easy! can't wait to try it when I finally get my hot rollers. I love her, she just oooozes confidance and sass! :)

    x

  • I totally thought you were channeling Peggy Bundy. Funny bug379! You said it before I had a chance.

  • Hi, Just got your comment re glitchy video.....I think its my computer cos I've watched other videos and they are doing it too so its not just your video!

  • when you first start backcombing, the style reminds me of the "peggy bundy" character from married with children. she did a very 1960's look for that show. too adorable. :)

  • You are stunning!

  • Will you do the Sally Jupiter hair and make up from the watchmen, the mother, not the daughter?

  • @nidget90 I have. :)

  • Gorgeous! You make it look so easy.... do you think a french twist is possible on really thick, slidy hair? I find it so difficult to coax my hair into any do like this!

  • @Poniella81 Yes, make sure you try the hairpins, not closed bobby pins. THeyre great for thick hair.

  • This is SO gorgeous! Oh my lanta. I'm going to try to do it!! <3

  • i love it!!

  • Hey thanks as always for some nice work. I've been trying to get a good flip/bouffant combo going for a while (kinda like a bigger version of Peggy's 'do after season 3).

My main problem is getting my very fine hair to hold a tease. Apart from hairspray do you have any ideas about maintaining a bouffant without it falling out?

  • Oh BTW thanks also for the step-by-step on yr blog...it really helped me get closer to the look ;-)

  • @4coins THe trick is spraying the roots before you roll your hair and also spraying the roots before you tease. Hairspray really was the way they maintained their volume back then.

  • @4coins OSIS have a product I think it's called dust it thats meant to be good

  • i love this soooo much! totally doing this asap

  • What is a good alternative for the grooming spray, preferably a brand that's sold internationally.

  • @hersendoodd I actually sell this product and will ship internationally. Unfortunately, I haven't found a product similar to it, which is why I started stocking it. LOL Maybe another viewer can give you some tips?

  • would love to see you in a twin set.

  • @drumsanddrumming twinsets are addicting! :)

  • @safehouse123 yes, they are!

  • I love it!

  • I absolutely love this look on you.

  • Thank you so much. Now I know what I am going to do with my hair for my drivers license photo. Yes, I am the crazy person who does full hair and make up for ID cards!

  • It's cool because at angles you really look like Joan aswell.

  • Ohh I love it! Fantastic!

  • @tymma1 Logitech Pro 9000 is what it's called I think...thank you.

  • Very elegant, girl! :)

  • Awwww this is wonderfull!!!! Looks great on you!!

  • Awesome! This is pretty much how I've been doing my hair the last couple of weeks. My only change is I don't use rollers. I have naturally curly hair that when I blow dry changes the texture to pretty wavy & voluminous. So I just go from shower.. To blow dry to pin & spray! (and add a belle blossom) :)

  • Great job Ashley! Very beautiful. I love your red hair color it is absolutely gorgeous.

  • Great job, I love Joan and you pull off the Joan look very well :)

  • Ashley, this is a lovely style, It also looks like your hair is gotten fuller and thicker!

  • @Glamouracecollies prenatal vitamins! LOL

  • Hi, great video as usual! Love it :) Unfortunately your videos seem to be really glitchy lately and I'm not sure if it's my computer. Anyone else have the same problem?

  • @matatak6 glitchy? How so? There is one small freeze in the middle but that had to do w/ the audio I was using. I am not aware of any other glitches so please let e know.

  • So pretty. I like that you pin curled the ends.

  • May I ask what shampoo and conditioner you use? Have you tried WEN?

  • @redenchilada I tried to get samples but they ignored me...LOL No I haven't. I use Aussie.

  • @LisaFreemontStreet That's because the WEN guy sells on a large scale. He's on QVC. I asked about the shampoo because your hair looks especially beautiful and shiny in this video.

  • loved it

joan is my fave from mad men!

  • If I let my hair dry right out of the shower, it's wavy, but bordering on big curls. Would the rollers still be a good idea?

  • @TotheBatcaveRobin I'd try it both ways!

  • Finally, the 60's, inspired by Mad Men, no less. :)

  • Loving the Sweet Charity mix :)

  • perfect for work tomorrow morning! thank you lisa!

  • Oh So Gorgeous! Really love it and the music was wonderful. Thank you, Dearie!

  • So beautiful, as always! I can't wait to try this one out later, it seems like one I can actually do, lol. I hope you don't take offense to this, but in several parts of this video you really look a lot like the actress who plays Peg Bundy on Married With Children. My husband and I both think she is gorgeous, and you are much classier than her character on that show, so I swear I don't mean that rudely!! Anyway, thank you so much for a great video and new ideas.

  • @MessyMama1 haha...Katie Segall! How could I be offended...I adore her!

  • Thank you for this tutorial I'm a huge fan of the show and I have been trying my hardest to do my hair like her. Now I can do that :)

  • she looks a lot like you ♥

  • Mad Men................ <3 You know, I met this Dj at an Oskan vintage clothing and music party who looked EXACTLY like Don Draper!!! He teaches in English in Nagoya but was in town for the party. You'll see him DJing in my next video.... YUM! lol! Gorgeous and inspiring tutorial as per usual...

  • @Chivopuro not like John Hamm...but like Don Draper? Nice. :)

  • I see that your bangs are shorter, did you recut your hair recently? If so, did you follow your vintage hairstyling book? How did you describe to your hairdresser how to cut it? So glad you did a Mad Men Hairstyle. Love the show!! thanks for the tutorial. I will use this style for upcoming trip!! Thanks!

  • @avonleanne my bangs are not shorter...they're actually growing out. The look shorter when I curl them under though.

  • your thumbnail pic is so cute I love it! I am obsessed with madmen so glad you did this!

  • Hey Lisa! You look absolutely gorgeous in this tutorial :) Always so helpful! Keep making tutorials, you're amazing and beautiful.

  • Hey Lisa, gorgeous as always (bet you get sick of hearing that). Anyhoo, just wondering if it is 100% necessary to curl your hair? Or is it a matter of adding more volume?

  • @rednogo by all means add the curl! ;-)

  • @LisaFreemontStreet awesome will do

  • just gorgeous as always <3 love it.

  • You really captured the Joan look! This is one of my favorite tutorials you've done! Love the music too, I loove Sweet Charity ;)

  • Beautiful! You make it look so easy!

  • love it!! i was in a wedding a couple weeks ago & this is exactly how the stylist did my hair, i was wondering how she did it...now i can do it myself! :) thanks!

  • Ah!! I always think that this girl reminds me of you whenever I see her! Gorgeous:) x

  • gorgeous style :] just the era i like - the tailoring of the fifties with a softness to it!

  • Such a nice hairstyle, and fairly easy too :)

I'm definitely going to try this one, I love Mad Men!

  • This hairstyle really suits you.

  • It'd be great to know how you did your make up for this, so we can all get the complete Joan look!! :) Love your videos!! x

  • @RachaelPoppins Please see my Sophia Loren video in the Starlet Series. Same makeup with a brighter lip

  • You look stuh-nning in this video....like, especially stunning :-)

  • ur hair is getting longer. wow. this looks really good. & ur hair looks so much like hers. :]

  • I have wanted to see you do this for so long! You have always reminded me of her.. And I mean that as a compliment!!!!

  • I love it! <3

  • I love this style! Also, the music is great, the second track was fun to listen to. I'm definitely going to find a cd/record of 'Sweet Charity'. Thanks ^_^

  • @drdawn86 No it doesnt. It isnt necessary to go crazy with it. Just a few strokes downward w/ the comb and don't try to brush thru it afterwards. Wash it out. :)

  • That style looks really lovely on you! Nicely done! :)

  • It's gorgeous!!

  • lovely
