I agree. Many guitarists on the Rolling Stones list were just players who can fit 60 million notes in one measure and play extremely fast. The list lacked many players who have real knowledge and control of the instrument, like Derek for example. Kurt Cobain? Can you give somebody a bigger blow job? There are many versatile guitar players with great influences and great skill who are much more deserving to be recognized as great than many of the one featured in Rolling Stones...It's a joke.

ok the rolling stones top guitar players list was a joke...there were alot of hacks that made that list. derek shoud have been higher and there where some guitar players that didnt even make it. like vai and the g3 guys

Absolutely right. I'd never even heard of Derek til early on this year (wish I'd have picked up on him way back, then I'd be playin slide guitar a WHOLE lot better)

Yea he got #81 on the RollinStone list, but that was back in 03 when he was incredible, but he was still workin out kinks with the Allman Brothers, but its been 4 years; each year he sounded even better and now hes awesome!

I say he's in the top 20 (if not top 10) when all is said and done.

You certainly can. I think he only made 80 something. If you take a look at the list, there are many that don't even belong and that are way ahead of Derek on it. They also left out ones who deserved to be on the list. That list is shit in my opinion.

yeah I was there at that. I was like ten feet from derek the whole afternoon. It was a great string of concerts. Dont forget oteil's band was there too

He oughta learn harmonica or somethin for some of these songs to take a solo or somethin... and then give supportive rhythm. He plays a tambourine sometimes, I've seen.
