Seriously that was a very nice trail to ride on. I believed that it take skills, endurance and stamina and its all parts of the physical fitness. But most importantly its the enjoyment of all that rules.
I never understood the appeal of DHing or very technical riding; I personally love covering huge distances on relatively smooth trails, much like the ones in this video. DHing; I'm going to go up this hill and go down it, over and over again. Technical; oh rock, oh boulder, oh log, hmmm. . . I've gone 10 feet!

dude, it doesn't take skill to go up hills on a bike, it takes endurance and stamina and physical fitness,
it's easy to get in shape,, but going downhilling takes a lot of skill because you are always going fast and you have to think quick and anticipate stuff,
when on downhill you are hitting jumps, gaps, berms, and wallrides and just bottom line, downhill requires more skill, DUH
"think quick and anticipate stuff" is exactly what is needed to climb hills on a mtb. Picking the proper line is just as important if not even more so for climbing then it is for the descents. the skill with xc is combining the two disciplins. By not over exerting your self on the up hills you will enough energy and mind to dominate on the down hills.
Agreed, climbing definitely takes skill when it's more than just a straight shot to the top. On rocky and rutted out climbs, it's easy to get dumped off the back of the bike if you don't pick the right route. DH is definitely more risky, but I would say it necessarily requires more skill.
if its os easy to get into shape, i wanna see you at the next world cup. it is bloody hard to train every day and the mental toughness required to push it on the limits for 1-2 hours in an an xc race is insane. respect toi DH its cool, but xc is atotally different set of skill, yes, SKILLS, pacing URself, putting URself through pain and race tactics, plus some xc tracks get pretty hairy with that tall seat and minimal travel.
