My father passed in 91 after 49 years or marriage my mother came homefrom the funeral and put this 45 on and it played for days when my mother passed in 97 we went to the house and it was still on the record player. Sometimes forever means forever. Thank you ray and you will be missed. R.I.P.
A poll by his peers selected Ray Charles as the #1 Pop Singer of All Time!!! I have to agree even though I would have liked to see Elvis Presley's name in the #1 slot (he was #3).
@Maureen712 Ray wasn't a pop singer....what poll are you talking about ?....the only pop songs that Ray sang that are remotely pop is when he made covers of a bunch of country songs in 1962
@jmallton Rolling Stone Magazine's poll in Nov. 2008 picked Aretha Franklin As Top Female Singer of all time. Following close behind is blues legend Ray Charles at #2. At #3 was Elvis Presley with Sam Cooke at #4 and John Lennon at #5. Completing the top 10 is Marvin Gay at #6, Bob Dylan at #7, Otis Redding at #8, Stevie Wonder at #9 and James Brown at #10.
The survey's shortlist of 179 was whittled down by musicians, producers & Rolling Stone editors to the top 100.
@Maureen712 Thank You for the source.....I cant say I agree with the Rolling Stone folk who wrote the article...it is my personal belief that Rolling Stone goes out of its way to be a rebel or different...and I think it shows up in their choices......although I agree that record sales cannot be the only measuring stick...it is true the only thing left is opinion....which makes everyone valid
ray harles had something on one else had in my lifetime i felt him his voice he is one of a kind if ray is not singing in heaven then i don't want to go i'm 52 he got me threw the hardest times of my childhood ha ha what childhood nothing but violence it does not matter to me to some of you it may i'm not the same race as ray my grandfather said to me 50 years ago treat people the way you wish to be treated he died shorty after in his final words i found an Ace that Icould keep skin
This song is so sad, everytime I listen to it I feel my heart is breaking... and yet, I can't stop listening to it. Ray Charles was a genius, not only for the songs he wrote, or the great hability to play, but for the amazing sensibility that he transmited through his gifted voice.
Wow what a wonderful song I remember my Father listening to this song when it came out , whil my sisters and I were listening to The Beatles and now almost 50 years later guess Father was right, as this is just one of the nicest loviest song ever recorded
This is the second greatest country song ever and one of my all time favorites. As Ray Charles said.... "it's the stories." On another level of brilliance.
Nothing seems like it used to be in the older days, comedy, music (and no high tech auto tune) etc etc... Im only 28, but wouldlove to of been back then, bring back the 50's. Sigh also
die harmonien im background sind einfach super auch wenn das sopran hier etwas leise ist plus ray charles der n bisschen soul in die nummer bringt und das orchester ist der song einfach bombe :)
@leebusandlibus, Your post touches my heart as does this song, may all our love ones, includng Ray, rest in peace. I miss you daddy

My ideal death bed would be
Listening to this song and reading Edgar Allen Poe poems
I'd be ok with that.
