Jüri Jaanson was too old already, it would have been a miracle if he won. Jaanson won his first World Championships medal, bronze, from Bled, which DATES BACK TO 1989! And he won silver medal with two-men scull in Beijing.
I have been rowing with Tufte before, not in the same boat though ;p but he helped me and some other to carry the boat to the sea and stuff^^ He is often rowing in the city i live in,
if you let go the other guys belive me , that´s a horrible feeling when you can see your oponents and sometimes u start to get desperate, I was 3 times the champion in the double where in mexico =) but after all I have to let it go =( I still miss the row!! is too sad
But if you get nice benefit from opponents at the start it is woth of it. And also - if you leave opponent to get you to far away there is not a chance you will ever get him ... Belive me. ;)
If you take a big lead from the beginning and you manage to create a big gap the others could get demotivated. It could be a great advantage if your oponents aren't that strong mentally, but I believe there is any one in the final that isn't.
sorry, but do YOU row? rowing is a 2k race, not a 20k... of course you get out as fast as you can to gain a good position and to settle into an effective rhythm for the middle thousand. single sculling at olympic level is all about who wants it most - and vaclac chalupa ("the guy in the white boat") definitely knew what he was doing.
no dude in the row that´s one of the best strtategic cause in that way u can see the other guys and u know at what speed you must go and u can have a better control of your condition, just that sometimes the things don´t go as planed
its probably the worst strategies. You can burn out in the first 500m, which is one of the worst possibilities. And the advantage of being able to see your opponents is null if you do not have the energy to go at the speed to keep up with them.
about the energy you´re right but i don´t see this like a bad strategy, maybe it´s about the personal cause it always works for me, but that´s me dude plus it´s not like you´re going to row much faster than the others and get tired it´s just about a good 250mts and then you just control your energy so the others don´t reach you
If your opponent cant see you there is less motivation and drive to commit to a move. Riding their bow ball is an excellent strategy. This guy got too comfortable in his groove and wasn't able to counter the opponents move. He should have brought it up a beat for 20 at the 1000 and pull away.
@rong7676 The average man has a lung capacity of 3 - 4 litres, these athletes can range from 6-9 litres...

About how fast do those boats go? I've rowed in a shell before and I was pretty impressed at how fast they go.

the guys in the white boat was retarded to sprint at the beginning
madcow1337 3 years ago
Not really sometimes it's worth of it.
SloVidek 3 years ago
dood ur joking right? u dont sprint at the very start of the race unless u know that the other guys are bad. or u just get lucky
madcow1337 3 years ago
But if you get nice benefit from opponents at the start it is woth of it. And also - if you leave opponent to get you to far away there is not a chance you will ever get him ... Belive me. ;)
SloVidek 3 years ago
yo dood do u even row?
madcow1337 3 years ago
It wasn't a sprint, though.
And.. Getting a gap to the others might be a good thing if they are sure you'll break.
Then they won't bother increasing their pace, and you will have a greater chance of winning.
Just take cycling as an example, why do people bother to break out from the rest if they knew they'd lose on it? Because they just might win it all...
If they know they have no chance to win under regular conditions, it's just pure logic.
Karius7 3 years ago
If you take a big lead from the beginning and you manage to create a big gap the others could get demotivated. It could be a great advantage if your oponents aren't that strong mentally, but I believe there is any one in the final that isn't.
SmokingHound 3 years ago
But I didn't say they were demotivated.. But the gap could be too big, and they'd have problems closing it...

thats true, it differs between rowers. But apparently this guy did something wrong.
