  • i wish he did a galleon instead they are awesome

  • Well, at least it's not ostentatious. Elitist douchebag...

  • Minging!!! a masterpiece of engineering but leave it at that!!!!

  • and children dying of hunger..

  • mines bigger loololol

  • yeah but can you sail it on a lake..thats what i thought

  • beautiful boat, love the sails.

  • im sure he has oogle and googles of google stock

  • the sails look like crap. Nice inside but make the sails look like a sailboat.

  • Gross!!!

  • A man with great taste!

  • Seriously that is so sexy it's not funny...

  • Not the Greatest Sailboat. More like the an Extravagant Penis Extension. Wiki Tom Perkins to find out what that means.

  • It has nothing to do with a sailboat. It looks like those awfull French sailing cruiseship. You can build beautiful sailing ship today. Look at the Royal Clipper and the Seacloud 2. But this is just awfull. Sorry to say.

  • My goodness this fellow must have the world's tiniest penis to need to compensate to this degree!

  • If that's the greatest sailboat ever, then sailing isn't what I think it is.

  • There are sailboats, and then there is THE sailboat.

  • rich fuck.

  • it remind me of the boat that came from china

  • my brother was one of the interior designers of this yacht :)

  • I saw that yacht when it passed underneath the Golden Gate Bridge and into San Francisco Bay! It was perhaps the most amazing sailing yacht I've ever seen!

  • Awesome craft.

  • "MInes BIGGER" lol

  • i seen this by my eyes in Malta , Bormla Harbour

  • It was supposed to be named 'Millenium Falcon'

  • i went sailing today for a sailing camp, but the little sailboats could never match that! i mean, IT HAS AN AUTOMATICALLY CONTROLLED MAST SYSTEM! they get to press buttons while we have to worry about the main sheet and the jib sheet and the boom and all that... I WANT IT!

  • im from greece and this yacht is in greece too and also im lucky coz im working on the tug boats service and i was very very lucky for exploring it.

  • 130 million to build and six figures a day to operate. Must be nice to be super wealthy.

  • tax implications? huh?

  • it may look pretty but having square rigged boats are inefficient, slow and suck at point up compared to sloop rigged boats

  • @shorerydr10

Since the masts rotate, and can bring the sails to any angle, doesn't that make it as efficient as any other sail layout?

  • its produced in İstanbul-Turkey

  • @carsancak

Yes but is engineered in ITALY from PERINI CRAFT !!!

  • @yugsoggoth i know the terminology well. I said only produced, no need 'but' s.

  • this is one of the nicest boats ever. who say this is ugly does not know what a nice boat/ship is. i am from malta the tiny island where this ship is registered. alot of yatchs come and go and the largest yatches in the world. i seen this in real life and by far this is one of the nicest ones i ever saw this and pelerus top 2. not largest but prettiest

  • RUBBISH... The 'Malese Falcon' was built by Fabio Perini. Perkins didn't build it any more than I built my Ford Mondeo. He, just like me, went to a supplier and said 'This is what I want" and handed over the money.

'Tis a lovely looking boat. The best of Italian styling.

  • the coolest part is that it is a square-rigger.

  • This boat was sold a few months ago.

  • HA! someone gave my last comment a thumbs down. Whats the matter? feeling a little sour? Just spent a $1m/meter on some gin palace?

  • Way to go rich people.I hope to hell you didnt forget to install a gold toilet, or else that thing isnt worth a shit in my neighborhood.

  • Think I would rather go for a Wally Yacht (or two) if I had that kinda money.

  • Same here, Pilgrim Project or an Aori would be my choice if I had that kind of money.

  • Designed by a 10 year old kid for his pimp father or what? Monstrosity of the seas.

  • what an ugly boat :O

the other one they showed in the beginning looked much better. this one's just big and expensive, nothing else

  • HA! The Dow was at 13600 when this was shown, now it's at 9000!!!

  • And dont think sailing the bahamas! lol

  • I live in Malta and our berth is right near it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dude that boat is big Tom Perkins waved to me as we sailed past… man it's a monster.

  • This boat is not beautiful. The sail design reminds me of 3 fish skeletal spines. Just because it's big doesn't mean it good. Supertankers and cargo ships are 5 times larger yet they are some of the ugliest ships in the world.

  • yeap, i agree. this is an ugly, gaudy, and overly opulent motor sailor for a male philistine who got a bit lucky with money that needed a huge ego boost with this monstrosity. apparently, money can't buy you a refined taste. this ship goes right along with those gold plated Bentleys that black rappers drive to boost their egos. it was just an investment anyway. the original owner don't own it anymore. perhaps it was an ugly manifestation of his midlife crisis. small penis, probably.

  • i have seen this boat in real life before! it was in port in tahiti's capital papeete. it is immense, the cameras cant portray how huge it really is

  • She is nice but I like the classic look. I would put my money on Athena.

  • definitly!

  • this babe was made in turkey

  • Smallest, penis, EVER.

  • Thats what I was going to say, lol

  • wow tom!

    such numbers!

    big ones!

    Tommy!

    Big Big Tommy!!!!!

  • That's impressive

  • DJIA at 13000+, those were the days.

  • Comment removed

  • "now he's prolly living in a lifeboat"

Nope, Tom Perkins is a multi-billionaire. Look him up on Google.

    -jcr

  • you shut your face! how dare you say that?

if you do that again, im going to cock your ass!

  • beautiful!!!!

  • What a ridiculous waste of resources. This is a crime against humanity.

    Hording wealth makes me sick.

  • bitter?

  • Lol you have to be kidding me...

  • get over it.

  • Try to work it out in therapy. You don't have to be a snivelling, useless, jealous git.

    -jcr

  • i want this for MY 25 years old birthday...hahaha! Oh sweet addiction

  • i took a picture of that in the Carribean

  • Can't sail it to the US because of tax implications? Can someone explain that?

  • why cant i see the video

    i liked this video :) y7

  • This must be one of the greatest yachts of all times!

  • ahh, forget the boat, just watching those stocks on the bottom of the screen brings back memories. good times, good times.....

  • Nice little toy, isn't it?! I am also wondering what the "tax implacations" are in bringing the boat to the US. If you can spend more then 100 mil on a custom bult yahat like that, how prohibative are the "tax implacations"? Still, If it comes to New York harbour, I will be the first to go see it!

  • it might be the biggest sailboat, but its NOT the greatest... shes ugly as sin. i laughed so hard when she was T-boned

  • Im stripping down.......you boys watching???? send me a message v

  • i saw it somewhere in the med with the sails down its awsome lol i was on a cruz

    x

  • happiest day of his life is when he published sex and the single zillionaire

    that was a great read!

  • and to think, I would be happy in a 20 foot sloop

  • i just say it yesterday in sf bay its huge

  • You can buy a big boat, but you can't buy a big.......

  • Dick.....? For $100Million I think there is a way to make you dick bigger.

  • Kind of sucky given the bailout that he doesn't want to keep in in America "because of tax implications." Some patriot!

  • Sounds like an average american. Patriot? Ah...let me know when you find one.

  • Just saw this thing cruising across Waikiki here in Hawaii. I had no idea what it was until I found it here. From my vantage point it looked like it was as tall as the condos along the beach. This thing is massive!

  • Awesome, simply awesome...

  • I'm not sure why there are so many different numbers for the cost. The total cost from the first drawing to completion was about $220 Million USD. In Dec 2006 there was an article about it here in Norway in a sailing magazine. The helm is like something right out of a Starship and the sheer size of the thing is a marvel in itself. This ship is absolutely beautiful and I can't wait to see her up close.

  • I hear he's selling it now... Wants to get into his high-tech submarine instead.

    Boys and their toys!

  • the maltese falcon was built in Turkey, and costs about 180.000.000 euro.

  • larger than life is sam spade, pal

  • give it to poor people in the slums to play with

  • i heard the boat costed about $88 millions or $150 millions but he wont tell that pm 60 minutes so i had no idea lol

  • whats the hull speed on it?must be GREAT if theyv got enough sail

  • apparently i heard it got up to 26 knots with full sails up...

imagine the stress on the rigs etc..

    it would be crazy

  • He spent 130 millions dollars but won't come to the US because of taxes ?

  • pretty sad, eh?

  • The US government probably already has a plan to get his sailboat for back taxes, registration, fees there, fees here, etc.,

  • seeing a 130 million dollar boat heel makes me laugh.

  • i took a picture of that in the Carribean

  • waw!

  • Get a complete GPS chart plotting system software. Go to diginav dot us. This includes ALL NOAA raster charts (2200)on a DVD. Just connect a GPS and your plotting. No installation required. Includes video tutorials, practical navigator, chart#1, 33 nautical calculators, and more. Very affordable price!

  • That thing is built in Turkey...

  • Well, yes, it's a fabulous piece of technology - but I can't help getting far more emotional and thrilled by the old timber tallships made of natural materials.

  • They're apparently working on a new two man submarine to carry on board the Falcon. Fun stuff.

  • A frikken amazing bit of technology! Hope he does his round the world tour, I'd love ta have a look-see at it in person.

  • There are no tax implications. Register a business in the Caymen Islands to own the boat. Charter the boat to yourself in the USA. Pay small taxes on the charter fees only.

Or... if you can own a boat like that, just buy the government.

    LOL.

  • Made from Italian Yacht constructor PERINI NAVI!!

  • made in Turkey

  • its made in italy moron...

  • saw this boat in st. bart and st. martin. so cool! giant and super fast.

  • Coolest hottest boat on the sea.

  • dyna rig my sweet chinese ass baby

  • Its not Ego or one-up-man ship. Its couriosity

if the elegant concept works. A model won't do it. 130 mil are not wasted, it gave a lot

of skilled people jobs. And most of all its not a military weapon. It will warm the hearts of many sail-enthusiasts.

  • best ever ....me arse ....its ugly.

  • it's eco friendly . no carbon Emissions.

  • If you never burned another drop of gas, it still wouldn't make a difference. You'd just breath harder from all the walking and biking you would do and in turn release more carbon emissions into the air. The world #1 methane and carbon emitter? Live Stock (ie: pig, cows, horses sheep etc.) Stop leveling remote, uninhabited rain forest in South America, and Africa. The people "farming' the land are untrained and after only a few years the land is good for nothing and barren.

  • but mirabbella is faster and more majestic

  • Its meant to be the spruce goose of sailing ships, the spruce goose wasn't exactly pretty in my opinion, and I'm sure it wasn't the fastest, but it is still a great feat.

  • mirabella V is better

  • I anchored beside both this year, the Maltese Falcon in Bequia and Mirabella V in either Carriacou or St. Maartens, and Mirabella V comes nowhere near the Maltese Falcon. Mirabella 1 to V can be spotted in the Cribbean regularly, and although very impressive, the Falcon is just so hi-tech it takes the shine of Mirabella.

Watching the Maltese Falcon tack into Admiralty Bay and drop the hook was a once in a lifetime experience. It took us 15 minutes to dinghy around it.

  • mirabella V is so amazing because it is the biggest sloop in the world, not just because its a massive yacht. building a sloop the size of the maltese falcon would be near impossible

  • Yes the challenge is to build great SLOOPS!

  • Why is it that many can share their delight in something beautiful, but then someone always has to say "Such-and-such is better"? Why not, "For you who find this beautiful, you may also find this beautiful, too"?

It's the same with rock drummers, sports cars and pogo sticks. Too much preoccupation about "better-ness".

  • Perkins will be one of the first in the stewpot after the Revolution. Uhmmmmmm, tender......

  • That thing is built in Turkey

  • I just can't see it. When I go out on a boat, it's to relax, to get my mind off the work-a-day BS that we ALL have to deal with, to learn something new about my boat or myself. When Perkins goes out, it's merely to draw attention. IMHO tho the vessel has sails (after a fashion) NOBODY on "...Falcon" is really "sailing".

  • When you have 290' of the most technological sailing yacht ever created with 20 crew at your will, i think i could relax pretty easily. Yachting it's all about showing off, i have never seen a humble 150 footer.

  • Actually yes they do sail. Unlike some of the mega yachts in the Caribbean and the Med, this boat can sail, and tack and anchor under sail. It is very impressive. It points better than some racers and impressed everyone who encountered it in the Caribbean in March.

  • anyone know where i can find the movie "maltese faclon" online? thanks...

  • I am sure it is in any of the rental places. The last line in that movie is THE STUFF THAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF. I think it was Bogart to Mary Astor. It's a great movie. Also one of greed and betrayal all for a precious art treasure.

  • That is why he named the boat that. If anything, the guy is very smart and has a sense of humor about all this. Look at the end of the transcript of yesterday's 60 minutes show.

  • true dat, true dat

  • Biggest yacht...smallest_____. That's how it usually goes. Lipless, beady eyed, misogynist.

  • Who cares what he looks like? He's extremely intelligent and successful. The whole misogynist bit is ridiculous. Like he said in the 60 min special he's fired tons of men, he fires 2 women and all of a sudden he's a woman hater.

  • William Lederer wrote a book called

    THE UGLY AMERICAN. That's how

I view this guy. Ostentatious and shallow.

Why is a guy who is worth so much money concerned with "tax implications?" Pay the tax and let the little guy enjoy it on a tour.

Sorry if I offended you. I just get a little sickened by such overt consumption.

  • The funny thing about all this is that I agree with you. However, I disagreed with the point about him being a misogynist. Also, this whole "the good ol' days" crap is just that, crap. You wanna see some serious showing off? Go to Madrid and check out the Royal Palace. I just got back from Spain and my jaw is still on the floor.

  • I don't even know where I got that. There is just something that I intuited rather than researched. There were no "good old days" when it comes to anyone building testaments to themselves. I don't think that Isabella and Ferdinand cared two hoots about the palace ever giving joy to commoners. Nor did Nicholas and Alexandra. By those standards, Perkins is a humble guy.

  • Right, so we agree. What a refreshing little YT debate this was. I think that is the first time ever that I've had a normal discussion with someone on YT. Most of the comments on here make me really worried for the human race.

  • hey guys, what are you talking about ? get infromed, this is produced by PERINI, the best ever sailboat maker, and is ITALIAN . Get informed..

  • Just have a look at Perini Navi website on the Maltese Falcon page:

Builder Perini Istanbul - YIldiz Gemi, Turkey

    Get WELL informed.

  • Yeah...right...so it is "produced" in Turkey...ok...but BY Italian designers, engeneers, architects, experts...etc.

It was just built in Turkey to get larger building space and cheaper labour..as I said GET INFORMED. Is Like Peugeot and Fiat and Citroen, they produce cars in Poland...so are these cars a "poland" product indeed?

  • Yes Perini is an Italian company but its main shipyard is in YIldiz Gemi Istanbul, Turkey I know because my Brother is the First Officer on the Maltese Falcon... Get well informed

  • It was produced in TURKEY.

Consruction industry of super yachts and sailing boats is very improved in TURKEY.

  • It´s impossible that this sail well (faster and better than a ACC or a VO70). Looks like an old Chinese ship, Or a Spanish conquer vessel of 1500.

  • Retarded comment.

  • I don't think men with big toys are "larger than life." It's just a bad message to young people.

The mega rich once had taste and decorum. Now they are big show offs --devoid of breeding. Again, my opinion. The nice thing about these exchanges is that we can exchange our ideas.

  • The point is that while I may agree with you regarding the ridiculous spending habits of the rich it still lets me enjoy the fruits of their imagination. If you look at history all of the monuments to civilization that we hold dear today are nothing but monuments to the same overindulgence.

  • I guess that also before modern communication, only the blue bloods and their courts ever caught a glimpse of the grandeur. There are wonders that did become useful to plain folk...The Golden Gate Bridge, the great rail system. The Winter Palace in old Russia was finished and the artists were killed so that they never could duplicate it for another person.

  • Right, now everyone wants what few have and it's a major cause of unhappiness and lack of content for people.

  • I wish that there would be some kind of movement for minimalism. So many people looking at the things they cannot have.

  • I agree with you. That's how I try to live. Even though I can afford bigger and better things, I choose to be happy with as few things as possible. Then I don't have to work so hard to make money, trying to "LIVE LARGE," as Oprah Winfrey is always advocating. It's people like her, who corrupt and negatively impact our culture in that way. They encourage us to be consumers.

  • I have given up on those who sell the mentality that all of us can have a 150 million dollar yacht if we just put our mind to it.

Not only is it ridiculous in theory but it also causes people to feel insecure and that they have failed. That's why the depression rate is soaring. There is little that is reflected in art that celebrates the non material. One question...why do most people have a problem criticizing Oprah? I give you credit for expressing your opinion.

  • good video.

  • pure snobbery.

  • Pure jealousy on your part. This is a technological and nautical masterpiece.

  • saw this motoring past the coast of nice (to antibes or cannes from monaco, i assume) 2 weeks ago. you could clearly recognize it from over 2 miles away. quite a site

  • very cool boat, but a Nauto'rs Swan is tha best. check nautorgroup dot com
