yes but it will drop back down gradually...even if its manual choke or not, if your running a big cam like that, you dont want it to lope until the fluids completely circulated
@2manygangstacheeses it was high idling, at about 1500 sounds like. If it was normally idling, you'd hear the pop-pop-pop sound of open headers idling, not a uniform sound.
Your right it needed to be tunned. That was really the first start that's why didn't idle below 1500 rpms, the distributor wasn't right nor the carb, there was no tunning on that car.
Sweet, I want to hear it at about 700 rpm. I could not really go below 700 rpm and keep mine runnning well. A good friend of mine is swapping out for a 280 next weekend, his is an '81. Is this your only Vette? Funny thing, several of us in our club have C5's, C6's but we spend all our time with the C3's, just love em!

nice car man..but u are supposed to high idle for the first 10 minutes or so to allow all the fluid to circulate...wouldnt rev it on the first start

I dont know if its just my speakers but to me that sounds really bad. Sounds like you need to adjust the timing and possibly tune up the carb.
