  • I have to disagree with the quality being the same. WMV will have better quality. Go to my channel and view video titled: MP4 vs. WMV - Which one to use for Video Games???? it's under the tutorials playlist. I will show you the difference in quality. And also how to cut down on file size.

  • so does this mean that movie maker makes the best quality videos?

  • i rendered skyrim footage 10 secs for both wmv & mp4 for the sake of experiment, not only wmv has better quality but it has better color pallete too down side is that wmv is much bigger than mp4 dunno why ur files have the same size

  • When ever i render something it renders for 2 seconds and says 100% and nothing appears any one help please message me :(

  • @SmexzCan Highlight the whole video

  • Hi, I hope you can help me, I´m having a problem with rendering in sony vegas, when I render the clip comes with the colour slightly off, like a red comes a bit orange, not the original red, I´ve tried many render settings but I can´t figure it out... (in the preview windows of vegas it´s correct, but in the rendered clip the colour is like described above).

Thanks in advance for the answer.

  • @GamingMan96 None taken, I do need a new computer

  • yes but its better waiting for wmv file cuz the quality is smoother if you are a gamer like me

  • @lolfishfail ha, you think that's bad?, it takes me over 4 hours to render a 2 minute clip..

  • @Zangoo5e wow you need a new computer then no offense

  • i cant see where ur lcicking how do you make it an mp4 ect. wtf?

  • @MrTrickshootingHD click on 360p on the video then click 720p and make it full screen that will make it in HD derp

  • it took me 2 fucking hours to render 8 minute clip...pisses me fucking off...and it was not even 6 mbs...fucking shit

  • So Is MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4) Better Than Sony AVC/MVC (*.mp4;*.m2ts;*.avc)?

  • @JelhifyGaming try new render settings

  • @DHOxKEVINxBADZ sounds more to me that you are clicking File->Save As instead of Render As

  • Awesome Tutorial man! But you must have a beast computer, It takes me well over 3 hours to render a 10 minute clip at 2,000,000 bits. ;(

  • when i do mp4 it doesnt have audio

  • @FLOR1Zzz go to audio tab and make sure include audio is checked?

  • @paradizecityz sorry im new at sony vegas but i dont know how to get there? Is it by project properties? btw i used XDCAM EX (*MP4).

  • @FLOR1Zzz dont use XDCAM, use MainConcept and there should be a video tab, audio tab, etc.

  • @paradizecityz ok i used mainconcept but it still doesnt got audio. And i dont know were to find the audio tab.

  • @FLOR1Zzz once you select mainconcept, click on custom...there should be tabs

  • @paradizecityz yeah i found it and i clicked it on but when it was rendered there was still no audio.

  • @FLOR1Zzz does your source have sound? verify that it has sound on your timeline

  • @paradizecityz yeah it does and when i play it in sony vegas its fine. but when its rendered the audio is gone.

  • @FLOR1Zzz same for me

  • @xTracTedFX yeah i know now another render setting which works and gives audio + 1080p on youtube. its called: Sony AVC/MVC (*.mp4;*.m2ts;*.avc) AVCHD 1920x1080-60i. I hope it works for you.

  • Mine just stays at 0 for honestly 2 days, & im not sure what to do.

    please help?

  • What about others? Like avi?

  • MP4 might be smaller on lo res but when it comes to 1080p WMV is smaller and with an fast computer it doesnt take me that long but the WMV ends up with 1.9gig the MPEG4 with 2.5 which makes uploading the wmv way faster so thats what I normally go for

  • Great guide.

  • I tried rendering a 5 min video in WMV and MP4 in HD.

The WMV file rendering took rougly 4 hours!!

And the MP4 rendering time took about 15 minutes.

The quality of MP4 was a little worse though.

Which one is the best to choose for me??

  • I'm new to Sony Vegas.

I just tried to render a 3 minute long AVI but I had to stop because it took hours.

My Fujitsu from last year is with Vista.

  • when i try to render in .wmv it gets to like 9% and says an error occurred

  • for me rendering in WMV for a vid that is minutes and sec takes at least 45 minutes and a 10 min vid takes about 1 hour and 50 min btw im using a laptop to render

  • Comment removed

  • @iDanVidz This is a bad statement....how is this a bad comparison when I use the same video for both and I also put in the description(if I didn't say it in the video) that effects and all that stuff will affect the time...this video wasn't to say that if you use WMV or MP4, then you exact rendering time would be XX:XX...it's to state that which one would be overall fastest...

  • I have a problem I have one of the best computers money can buy, and when I do redner 6-10 minute videos of a 480p quality video takes me around 20 minutes but I am trying to render my 1 minute montage at 480p and it says over 4 hours and it doesnt change it sticks with for hours and doesnt move one percent.

  • @ProfessionalGam3rz my computer cost me 7 thousand dollars and im guessing its better than yours cuz ur render times are shit

  • @jayjaybirdsnest Its because I had alot of segment clips and took to much memory, sometimes i render 1 hour clips faste rthen you can render 10 minutes ones.

  • @ProfessionalGam3rz yes but your upload quality sucks its at 480 not even hd

  • @jayjaybirdsnest Look at my latest video, plus HD is fucking stupid for 2 minute videos it can takes gigs.

  • ill use mp4 but how do you get WMV cause i cant find it i mean i did have it then it was gone plz help

  • Thank you for clearing this up for me. =3 I appreciate it.

  • in my opinion, yes mp4 takes less time to render and picture quality will look better, tho u can fix it with "brightness & contrast" effect and "sharpen" also

WMV movements are way smoother unlike mp4 when objects moves looks a bit static

so like i said, in my opinion, i rather wmv taking more time rendering and fix the static thing that mp4 has

  • PRESS 6 FOR WAA?

  • So what were your mp4 render settings?

  • I render a clip the exact same length as yours as mp4, and it takes 40 minutes. What are you computers specs?

  • When i start rendering my video to a wmv the frame freezes and keeps it. It won't fucking render help me!

  • i recommend wmv, check my latest video and ull see y, mp4 picture quality is better than wmv, but mp4 is a bit blurry during movements unlike wmv is smoother, my advice is go to video effects "sony vegas brightness and contrast" and adjust it the way u like and u get results like my last video

    good luck

  • Another thing you might want to consider, youtube processes wmv while the video is being uploaded. mp4 has to be be uploaded before youtube processes the video. This could help you get a video published a little faster if you're in a situation where you need it up asap. But then again if you're rendering a 10 minute clip the savings in time is lost because the render is going to take almost twice as long, and generally it takes about 20 minutes to process a video I guess I just overruled myself

  • it made mine take over 3 hours....and it ADDED over 3 minutes of black screen to the video...WTF is this about?

  • @1Sandwitch1 you problaly dragged the render loop region longer than the video.

  • Thank you for your help !!!!

  • it took me 3 hrs yesterday to render a 4min clip.. D:

  • HEY GUYS , BUT IS THAT NORMAL THAT WHEN I RENDER TO WMV = GOOD QUALITY = BUT THE AUDIO IS HORRIBLE :s ? (QUALITY VBR) WHEN I LISTEN TO MY AUDIO , I CAN LISTEN SOME LITTLE NOISES :s ---> HELP (WMA 9.2)

  • I have a problem and i was wondering if you could help me. when i render in vegas " Mp4 format " the video gets darker when i watch it.. is there any solution to fix this?

  • Im a tad jealous of that speed. It generally takes hours for me to render a 5 min long video. Right now I'm rendering a 30 min long video and the elapsed time when finished will read something like 18 hours. Rediculous...

  • i tryed to render them in mp4 with sony vegas but im doing something wrong coz my videos are to small and the same videos that i got from some websites in mp4 they are a bit bigger.......i mean for example a video of 3 min when i render in mp4 maybe its 35 mb......and the same video in also mp4 that somebody else made is 60 mb.......thats why im think im doing something wrong.....thanks!

  • hi i want to know how to render in MP4 with the best quallity in the video and audio....im dj and i play with videos in a projector that why i need a good quallity.....right now i render my videos in mpg2....there are ok but too big....

  • my clip is 10 mins and it takes 15 hours to render wtf help me guys plzzzzzzzzz

  • @FRISKYHD11 maybe there's nothing wrong at all, maybe it's just your computer? what's your specs?

  • Hey mate, I liked the video but just thought I would share a tip with you: When rendering, always uncheck 'save project markers' ..it makes the filesize significantly smaller and your video will render quicker.

  • @eArtrash ah nice one, definitely will look into this!

  • It should take about an hour or three for a five min video anyway

  • Great job! Thanks.

  • Thank you :)

  • mp4 is best.

  • i render out a 5 minte file and it comes out to be a 2gig file? why

  • @CrimsonisGod probably wrong render settings

  • @BaaWaaNi use mp4 and render it out as 5 mbps...you already said you have a slow computer so there's not much you can do

  • get a core i7, 8 cores kicks some serious rendering ass

  • his mp4 setting are different thats why it comes in different time length than wmv

    overall mp4 is the best

  • @ShoTzHD my mp4 settings are the same and at the same bitrate

  • @paradizecityz i meant different from other peoples.

  • What are the specs on your PC as it took me 40 minutes to render a 8 minute clip, i have a quad core desktop too

  • Thanks, this was very useful as I've never really had much success with MP4. Will now give it another go.

Also you sent a friend request to my old account MrCheapKills on here (I'm not using that channel any longer due to copyright strikes), I've sent you a friend request from this account.

  • how come when i render in wmw it render faster then mp4.

  • @frazor100 Really, r the render setting identical?

  • @paradizecityz did you record in mp4 and render to mp4? Maybe thats why it was faster?

  • @TheRealSpike346 no sir, it's recorded in avi

  • @frazor100 Because the codec for WMV will write faster than that of the MP4.

It's nothing to do with the render settings or your computure.

  • o lol what about blitz box's are they any good ?

  • @xXownagem8Xx never had personal experience with it but from what i see from youtube videos, quality isn't that great

  • @paradizecityz yh lol after looking around i think im gunna get vbox advanced hd thingy it seems the best for is price :)

  • will this render into HD ?

  • @xXownagem8Xx of course

  • @paradizecityz so it would render a dazzle into hd ?

  • @xXownagem8Xx 1st, this isnt a rendering settings video...2nd, it won't make dazzle into HD, source needs to be HD already

  • @paradizecityz what so u can never render a dazzle into HD ?

  • @xXownagem8Xx not true HD

  • As you know theatre mode only allows 30 sec clips. I currently use a Firefox add on to download my video clips and get em into sony vegas. When i download the mp4 files from youtube the size of the clips are only about 1.5mb. But then when i render them in sony vegas they come out up to 4 to 5 times bigger. do you know what the default setting for uploading the clips from theatre mode are?

  • @Nolars87 not 100% sure on this but youtube does compress the video a BUNCH so you are downloading a compressed video, that's why it's not as big, and when you are rendering it out, it's most likely at a higher bit rate then the downloaded video, therefore, a bigger size

  • @paradizecityz ok cool i am just curious. Would it be worth my while rendering it in the settings you used in the vid?

  • @Nolars87 if you're just uploading small clips...not really a need to re-render them...in my opinion

  • But while uploading to youtube Mp4 processes after the entire clip is uploaded, while Wmv processes while it is uploading to Youtube

  • @H3inHighDef i was having a chat with someone out that cuz mine processes while uploading so idk why there...

  • my god, you must have a beast computer to have that render that fast. For about a 10 min clip my rendering takes about 2 1/2 hours. I am sure its both but what speeds that up? RAM or Processing Speed, I got 6 gigs of RAM now.

  • @Nystel1 for sony vegas, it's more of processor...what processor do you have?

  • @paradizecityz I got Intel Core 2 6700 @ 2.66 GHz,

And I lied I only got 4 GB of RAM.

  • @Nystel1 time for you to upgrade! :P

  • Will it be the same for vegas 10

  • @JPHurricanes i could have sworn i mentioned that i use sony vegas 10...oh well, yes it will work the same for all sony vegas

  • thanks man.

i was using allways like wmv i think now im sure to use mp4 becaus i maked a music mix and i needed to wait like 40 for a video of 7 mins -.- i realy thank you!!!

  • I use 7 Mbps normally.

  • by the way will it be the same for sony vegas 8.0(what i use)

  • @iTzPET3R yes

  • whats the BIT rate commentators use????

  • @iTzPET3R it really depends on the person's computer as well...i use 10 Mbps but occasionally use 5 Mbps, I doubt I would go lower than 5

  • @paradizecityz thanks man!!!!!

  • Always wondered which is better

  • Thanks for this!
