Dr. Zakir Naik recommends the death penalty for homosexuals and for apostasy from the faith in an Islamic State. He calls for India to be ruled by the medieval tenets of Shariah law. And he supports a ban on the construction of non-Muslim places of worship in Muslim lands and the Taliban's bombing of the Bamiyan Buddhas.

If he does nót understand Islam, why take him seriously?

If he dóes understand Islam, than it's not such a tolerant and peaceful religion after all.

I agree with you that i'm quite ignorant about islam. I learn bit by bit, and there are very interesting topics, for example the historic dispute between Ibn Rushd and Al-Ghazali. I also agree that i come to this with a negative view. Because of the reasons i've stated (death for apostasy and homosexuality, agreeing blowing up other peoples sacred statues etc.) i find Zakir be a very bad and intolerant man. And that's why i don't understand apparently people adore him so much.

That's why i asked: is he misrepresenting islam when he says things like homosexuals and apostates should be killed, or do the people who watch these videos actually agree with that opinion and do they see it as part of Islam? More general, i have not so positive a picture of Islam, but neither of Christianity of Judaism, because of the violence in the books (in Islam, especially in the Hadiths, and the torture of disbelievers in hell in the Quran).

yes, he mentioned(Zakir Naik) that he was in the peace conference before and was answering the top 20 misconceptions of Islam, but he was only able to get through the first 13. Do you have that video?

i just want to comment regarding what he said about "least crime rate" in saudi arabia.. i am a fan of dr naik but regarding saudi arabia's crimes, i have witnessed first-hand how barbaric and cruel some crimes are committed there since i work in the hospital and i've seen many victims of cruel crimes done by saudis and the worst is that the saudi government has been very good in hiding or not being open about these. that's why maybe many crimes are unreported in saudi arabia.
