Actually, though, his TV commercials were quite popular with people so I don't understand the attitude coming across from some that he is a sell-out or that the commercials were a waste of his time and he shouldn't have done any. According to interviews he gave I always felt as if he loved doing the commercials. He did commercials on TV during the '60s through the late '80s...so it's never been a situation where he "couldn't get work so he did a commercial". He obviously liked doing them.
@garethac81 He enjoyed every moment far as we know. He was gracious and patient with his line of work and very humble too. I know someone who once worked with him on an old episode of MYSTERY and he said he was the most kind and loving man he had ever met. It is tragic he left us so soon but then again it is better to have lived than not lived at all no?

*sigh* So sad to see a legend of stage and screen reduced to selling stain remover, especially in his winter years.
I just hope he was well compensated for his time.
