@sonicKAI I disagree. I think the later games got obsessed with the storyline and forgot to actually make the gameplay fun. This one focused on both and pulled it off.

at the same time, sega got it into their heads that "complex story = good story" so they just started shoving plot elements on top of everything that was already there and making the whole thing terrible.

Sonic Colors is good because they remembered that complex =/= good, and just stuck with "eggman is evil sonic must stop him"

becuase SA and SA2 tried to translate 2D sonic gameplay into 3D. I'd say they made a great job because it's really hard for some games to go 3D. After seeing they couldn't make more games with that style, Sega started to introduce different gameplay elements (guns, second person prespective, switching characters, etc) for the franchise to go on. Most of them were failures, but i think they got the right formula with unleashed's day stages.

when you get a chance, listen to SA2's soundtrack and really listen to the level of quality and effort the old sonic team put into making it's music. then rewind and listen to sky sanctuary.
