The govt. bailed out the banking system that doesn't create anything except credit out of thin air, yet people are outraged about a loan to the auto industry that actually produces something? The govt and banking institutions are mostly to blame for the economic crisis we are in now. Plus the amount the auto industry is asking for is less than the tax reciepts the govt would lose if that many people lost their jobs.
I know it sounds bad but seriously where does this end? Let them fail and restructure in bankruptcy protection. I don't ask people to subsidize my job, whey the hell should I pay for someone else? Sure it will be a mess for awhile, but something else will take their place. Big 3 or not, people will still drive cars in the future and people will have to make those cars.
You're right!! People aren't willing to take responsibility for their own actions. Everybody is affected right now. A bailout will put us one GIANT step toward socialism which we preach against. They are trying to prop up a failing system. Dump it and restructure how you run your company!!
I sell Toyotas and it insults me to see this issue come up. Using my tax dollars to help my competition. GM lost me as a customer in '93 because of their sub-par products.
Typical American corporation to which I have NO loyalty. When things are good keep your hands off me, my earnings, & my profits. Don't you dare prosecute me because I bend rules and regulations, mistreat my employees and the environment. Send jobs and money offshore so I don't have to pay taxes, etc, etc, etc. Capitalism is GOOD..When things go bad HELP ME. BAIL ME OUT. GIVE ME TAXPAYER MONEY. Fuck these chicken dick motherfuckers. Send me about a cool million while your at it, Obama.
The only change you'll have once Obama takes the throne is the pennies left in your pocket after the government has yanked everything else you had and worked for from you.
Wrong, fuckface. It will be Obama, and that retard Barney Frank, bailing out these automotive companies. I agree with you though, Bush has given plenty to his cronies during his run. I don't like Bush either. Remember it was Obama who recommended to Bush to bail these idiots out when they recently met. That's what you get for assuming.
Let them burn in hell. They've proven their incompetence over the years with a lot of unsolicited help from the UAW. Honda, VW, and others and their suppliers building cars with American employees in their plants in America would be happy to step in when they're dead. Bye bye big 3. Govt can give you money, but I'll never buy from you. You guys are shipping your jobs overseas anyway.
I think you'll find that most Americans agree with you. If you consider us morons, you've just joined the club. I hope the big three burn in hell and I, for one, don't buy their bullshit arguements. The auto industry in America consists of more than GM, Ford, and Chrysler if you consider all the companies (Honda, VW, etc) and their suppliers that have gotten it right and would happily fill the void should they (hopefully) go away.
Private health insurance is a private tyranny that only exists in United States. It's a rather barbaric system that tells you you're health is only worth what you can afford.
People in United States should get behind, and support, HR 676. If you don't know what it is learn about it! GM & Ford are going bankrupt because of the rising cost of health care. If United States had single-payer system, the companies wouldn't have to worry about it.
HR 676 is universal health care. To solve a problem caused by government intervention, you do NOT create MORE government intervention. The government is already horrifyingly large and inefficient and to create another huge program and trust government to run it would be nothing short of disastrous. Once bureaucrats are removed from the current corporatist health care system and doctors can directly work with patients we will have free markets back in health care.
The health care problem is caused by a government policy of simply leaving the Health Care industry up to their own devices and imposing a private tyranny on the American populace. "Free Markets" are anything but. They'll never be "free."
Besides, there are just some things you shouldn't let "the market" decide. Health care is one of them.
Health Care costs are crippling the American auto industry. Make it government-bought-health-care & you alleviate the burden on corporations.
The government cannot just wave a magic wand and provide health care for all. Taxes would need to rise and who will be footing the taxes--corporations. Higher taxes means more businesses moving overseas. Existing govt health programs are driving costs way up from greedy health providers who get away with charging ridiculous amounts of money for services and tests--many which aren't even necessary. Free markets were in place prior to govt intervention and costs were quite reasonable.
America is already spending two times the money taxpayers money that is on health care than Canada so the Americans can have twice the health care the Canadians have with no extra taxes
You fail to consider the USA has over TEN TIMES the population Canada does. Any intervention at the federal level with respect to health care is unconstitutional and needs to stop NOW! Once the government and corporate bureaucrats are removed and doctors can once again deal directly with their patients only then will we see quality go up and costs come down.

The new American motto:
"Capitalize the gains; socialize the losses."
Maybe the next person who goes bankrupt due to healthcare costs should get bailout too.
