I'm sticking my neck out .I like Bill Monroes' version the best .Maybe Mike your privy to some unheard till now original version.theres lots of fans who will follow you to hell and back with this , but here is where I'll be parting company .I will continue to appreciate your traditional style .
OK so let us in on the little joke when Mike seemed to tell his mandolin "you better be quiet now".Did I hear that right? This is a great tune fantasticly played, thanks for posting it!
What's kinda neat to me is how everyone's favorite virtuoso Irish fiddler, Kevin Burke has put this tune in his repertoire. It's on his recent "Across the Black River" CD, a real gem. I heard him play it in Ojai, CA last year. He said the tune lurked around in the back of his head for a number of years until he heard the Foghorn String Band play it up in Portland where he lives. He said, finally it was time time play it and he hoped noone was offended by it.
I'm friends of David Long & Mike Compton. I'll pass your comment on the Mike but I doubt that they are going to be touring South Africal anytime soon. If you visit my site at johnhartford dot org, you will find more clips of these guys and I might even be persuaded to post more.
Man, that's fantastic. Been trying to figure out that song from a Mel Bay book for ages. Don't suppose you guys are touring South Africa anytime soon.

This is easily one of the 5 or 7 best mandolin videos I've seen. The performance is stellar, and the sound quality impeccable. So awesome!

Consider yourself persuaded. Post more! I've also found mike's website, where he gives online lessons. Would that I were that worthy.
