Vern is definitely a legend and will be remembered by his friends and colleagues for a long time. He is very much missed by those of us from IBM's Silicon Valley Lab, where "IMS" is developed and supported. He inspired all of us to make "IMS" the best Transaction and Database Manager ever. Thanks Vern!
And thanks to this video's author for his tribute to a most deserving gentleman. RIP Vern.
When you think to Create, Vern didn't Hesitate. Creating Action, Matter. Several IBMers have helpful Dream's. Thanks, Vern -- may you see the Parallel Organization of Heaven - ahh!
A wonderful mix of simplicity, clarity and power in pictures and storytelling. Vern's story is full of enduring truths of human existance, written and told with deep understanding and great human compassion.
This reminds me of my old english teacher telling us:"show, don't tell" ..Too often we get bombarded with big messages that start to lose their meaning after a while.. And in comes this simple video full of important meanings..on why we create, why it pays to have a curious and passionate spirit within while carrying out even the most mundane of tasks. This snapshot into one man's everyday existence is one of the most compelling things I've seen in a while..corporate journalism at its best.

I thought I heard the narrator say that IBM's IMS does 50 million transactions per day? That must be a glitch and is probably 50 billion.
My company alone does 40+ million IMS transactions per work day. Indeed we are doing over 800 million per month. 14 billion a year.
Other than that, a fitting tribure to Verne.
Although it must be realized that Verne was just part of a talented team.
