These BAC 1-11s, without hush kits, were such noisy, deafening aircraft that they could wake up the deceased for miles around (figuratively speaking). Extremely deafening. Not even the 727 can match the distinctive noise of the BAC 1-11.
It should be interesting to find out how many of you lived close to major airports during the 1-11's heyday and complained about the extreme noise of these aircraft day after day after day.
That´s awesome ! I love the 1-11 so that´s realy awesome for me. Such an experience is very rare today. So thank you very much for fiming AND sharing that event with us !!
My dad ( who just passed away recently ) flew the BAC 1-11s for Florida Express and Braniff back in the day, he said they were one of his favorite airplanes to fly. These are the old Rolls Royce "Spey" engines w/out the hush kits...noisy but gas guzzlers in these days...the BAC was one of the most successful aircraft that British Aerospace ever developed. Supposedly there is I believe a Romanian aerospace manufacturer that bought the rights to the BAC designs from the british recently.

Great video. I can remember watching these takeoff from Birmingham (UK) airport back in the mid 80's. The noise was incredible and you could hear them several minutes after flying over in the right conditions.
Thank you for this exceptional video documentary of the BAC 1-11. I have never flown on this aircraft, but remember them fondly from the 1980s. Your filming is superb. I also really love the polished wing leading edges and nacelles--this is the right way to treat a classic jetliner. Wish there were more DC-8s and 707s preserved and flying like this BAC 1-11.
Flew aboard Mohawk, American, Allegheny, and Tarom (series 500). A very unique aircraft. This exec looks like a LOT of fun! Glad to see it still flying.
Hi Billy. Glad someone has managed to post videos of this already. I'll have to upload mine soon too. It was one of the most memorable flights I have taken. Nice meeting you too. Ian (UK_Dispatcher on a.net/400SH/DAC etc.)
Nice to see a bird like this flying in the present! Braniff actually flew this type of plane for a short time in the mid to late 1960s, until Harding Lawrence made short work of them in the early 70s. Great vid!
Too bad Classic Jet Tours charges so much for these Classic Jet Tours....Only people with cash lined pockets can afford the rides...:(

You know it is a badass aircraft when it leaves a smoke stack on the runway from the reverser's.

Takes forever to takeoff and climbs so anemic compared to today. LOVE the long takeoff roll though.
