There are Nirvana (and/or new music) fans and Patti Smith fans--with more than a little overlap (myself). I can understand some not liking this-even hating it. No prob. But do you have to flame people who really like it or insult her personally? In any case, I'm pretty sure Kurt would have (any many in that crowd) loved it.
She felt like she went through some of the same things that Kurt did during the 90's, plus, who gives a fuck let her do what she wants. do what you want, we're all gonna die anyways.
the beatles wouldn't sing slipknot because who wants to see the beatles sing slipknot, patti smith does a good interpretation of this song on her new album. I'm not a fan of patti and I'm a huge fan of Nirvana and to me it's good to here someone doing them justice and showing the songwriting abilities of Kurt Cobain.
Bullshit, she shouldn't be singing nirvana songs. Nirvana was grunge, not some slow singing bullshit. Seriously, Nirvana made their songs how they were because they thought that it was wrong, that teenagers were listening to songs that their parents were.
They made their music to fill in a generation, to be loud, hard, and awesome.
And to all the bullshitters, who say that it is an honor for her to sing this song, it isn't. Nirvana made this song, and it's their's. For having some slow singing whore sing this song?
That's like having having the beetles singing slipknot.
Seriously.
Oh yeah, and when she sings "Hello, hello, hello"x16, she doesn't say the "HOW LOW" part, hmmm wonder why?
are you crazy? she just has got nothing more to say..singin' a nirvana song? rubbish! it's over, man. it's not the sixties anymore! that day i went to see the battles and isis, modest mouse and built to spill..alive people, new music not played by zombies..
Saw her do this at the Roundhouse in London, it was the highlight of the gig, watching here incant at the end of the song is a spritual experience......she's got balls!
love it

Patti Smith was one of the highlights of the festival for me, & this song in particular was strong. Best concert i ever went to, by far.
