This is a great blend of folk, country, blues and a Them sample together with topical lyrics possibly referring to scientology. Brilliant live performance!
Fuck the people that dislike ICP, just listen to this song and enjoy it. dont care what other people do, especially saying that another love song sounds like this. It does but they are both badass.enjoy. mmfwcl
This is probably one of my favorite beck songs of all time.
I've actually been trying to model some of my music around these types of Beck songs (also his songs from Mutations and Sea Change). I'd love to hear what you think-- check out my new music video on my channel.
The Rhodes piano that Beck used was sampled from the cover of Dylan's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue", by the 60's band Them (featuring a young Van Morrison) Check It out if you get the chance- it's interesting to hear what "Jack-Ass" was inspired by-
@slickness85 it actually does but icp came out with that song 4 or 5 years after beck so icp can go fuck themselves. but thanks for pointing that out.
"if you thought that you were making your way.. to where the puzzles and pagans lay..put it together- it's a strange invitation." Such is the allure of exploring the unknown by losing your mind.
Your a faggit ICP is gay as all holy hell. They can't rap and dress up like clowns because they are clowns and can't be taken seriously. Why the hell where they brought up in a Beck based discussion?
them's version of it's all over baby blue is often said to be one of the best ever covers of a dylan song. beck really made good use of it in this song.
Check out Echo and the Bunnymen's cover of Baby Blue. It's on You-Tube, and they use the same base melody. It's beyond good. We all know Beck is a master of appropriation of musical styles. That's his brilliance.
honestly, this is one of my favorite beck songs, but i was disappointed when i heard the Them song he based it off of. That was one of my favorite parts.

Of course the "maestro" took this from It's All Over Baby Blue by Van Morrison
DrChubby 4 years ago
The chord progression IS just A and D, though. Not exactly rocket science...
3chad33 4 years ago
still..that doesn't negate the fact that Them and Van Morrison came up with it first and Beck sampled it. Can't you give credit where it's due?
