@Wackylemon64 Dispensers will only knock the mobs back if they are firing arrows. The issue with this though is that the game treats this as the dispenser doing the damage - not you - and as a result the mobs don't drop xp when they die

i noticed u dropped the item in ur hand when u moved forward. when i 1st started playing, that was always happening to me. i finally got fed up about 2 weeks of playtime when i accidentaly dropped my 1st diamond pick into lava while mining obsidian so i changed the drop button to 'j' since i hardly ever have any use for dropping my items

this is nothing like my design for an xp farm but i think you can improve it by putting down a fence gate at the hole so the zombies don't push eachother off.

you should just have them go to direct fall damage to get them to 1hp and then punch them at the bottom.

This has probably been suggested, but oh well. As a thought, you could have the mobs fall down to near death, whatever height that may be, then punch them when your down there, that way you dont need to go up and down to collect the experience ...

@Australian1010 This is how drop xp traps have been done in the past. The issue is that sometimes the mobs will jump or, for whatever other reason, will take either too much or not enough damage. By doing the xp trap like this, you're ensured a kill

As long as you do "some" damage to a mob you will get xp when it does, doesn't matter how it dies.

With that mob trap - wouldn't it be better to use the water to push the mobs down a hole big enough to damge them badly [only half a heart or so remaining] and then punch them to death? Also - how the heck do you find mob spawners so easily? I have only ever found one in the two months I've been playing Minecraft.

@AlanJones1974Derby Nope. For two reasons: one, I wanted to try something different than what everyone else has been doing =p and; two, fall damage like that is not exact. Sometimes mobs will jump and take more damage than you want them to while other times they will (for whatever reason) take less damage. This way you're guaranteed a one-hit kill.

@BigOnCamp Yes but then you're not close enough to the spawner for the spawner to spawn (alot of spawn in that sentence) :D So for it to work you'll have to make a water channel or something to bring the weakened zombie back up to you. You have to stay whith in a 16 block radious from the spawner.

good idea. here are a few things to think about Static;

first - you dont have to use a piston to hold them if you are worried about early start exp farm, you can use trap doors or regular doors

second - i see you dont want to have an 'afk farm' but if you do this ever you should move the mobs at least 8 blocks from the spawner so they will continuously spawn with no cap

third - you can make a drop with a water break as well as the ladder so you can drop fast and climb up

Also, the reason I don't drop them and then hit them is that drop damage doesn't seem to be all that reliable (sometimes the mobs will jump before the end and take more damage or some how take less damage). This way it's a guaranteed 1-shot kill

Also, this is subjective, but I think that you cannot catch fish if your rod is too close to you, like in your last 2 attempts. Try flinging it as far as you can into deep ocean for best results. And as soon as you tug the fish in, jump to avoid it going over your head!

when exploring a cave, put two different types of blocks on the wall and put a torch on the block that points to the exit, for example, carve 2 blocks on a stone wall, put two dirt blocks on the wall in a horizontal line and then put a torch on the block that points to the exit, you'll never be lost again
